She ordered a Curry and hasn’t paid me

OnePeachA · 22/03/2025 20:51

Friend came to my house

I was going to cook but she asked if I fancied a curry. I said that would be really nice actually

Her JustEat app wasn’t working so I said have a look on mine for places that are open. She picked Indian.

I put everything I wanted in and she added hers. Total came to £52ish. Over 65% of that cost was hers.

I said I could just check out and sort it later. I have messaged to ask if she had the money today as a gentle reminder, and she said she thought it was my treat?

I said oh, we must have got crossed wires then. She said ‘I did cover the shop’

She went to the corner shop for wine and snacks. I got a Grape Fanta!

Where do I go from here? Leave it? Was it reasonable for her to assume it was in fact my treat?

Doesn’t have online banking?!

She’s dodging paying.

Christ, are you still going?
I can't see a single thing in my posts that suggests that I'd be 'so sure that it would go down well'.
But sure, keep on, whatever gives you a little kick.

You can see the pots and kettles here can't you @MarkWithaC ?

I go away for hours and do something more useful with my day yet when I come back, here you are AGAIN still trying desperately to put your point over even when posters like me and @MissScarletInTheBallroom have a different opinion.

I don't know if you're a bloke, or you've chosen a name that implies you are, but you need to accept that on MN if you post opinions, people may disagree with you.

You don't have to have a temper tantrum when they do - which is how you're coming across.

PixieTales · 23/03/2025 17:14

Why would she need to go into her branch to withdraw cash? Surely she has a bank card to use at a cash machine? Sounds like she’s making excuses to get out of it for sure!

ScarlettOYara · 23/03/2025 17:15

Yes, and you get cash machines outside every supermarket and convenience store etc.

NatureOverNightclubs · 23/03/2025 17:16

Why do people on here go bananas over a simple typo that isn't the slightest bit funny? Just like that snapped and farted bollocks. It's repetitive, boring and fucking annoying.

You know stuffing yourself with the occasional takeaway isn’t going to create lifelong issues, yes??
God almighty, this thread isn’t about the amount of food or obesity, it’s about OPs DF being a CF.
Why are some posters obsessed with what other people eat? You really should see someone about your issues around food and why it’s so triggering for you.

Actually I think you've hit the nail on the head here with the words 'stuffing yourself' and shed a bit of light on why posters are butting heads.

Group A are saying: on top of everything else she ordered a massive meal on your dime.
Group B : why are you shaming someone for ordering what they want, how judgemental. You have an eating disorder and are a competitive under eater.
Group A : I'm not an under eater but you can't deny it's a big meal. Saying otherwise is just not true.
Group B : why are you policing?

I think everyone agrees it's a massive meal. For one thing in a restaurant they always ask if you want naan or rice. This guest had rice and two naans.

Acknowledging that doesn't mean you have any feelings about the person eating it (assuming they aren't manipulating a situation where you have to pay).

Her reply says

‘Oh right. I didn’t realise but never mind!! I’ll have to go into branch cos I don’t do online banking. Or I can hand * the cash to give you, she lives nearby doesn’t she’

She absolutely realised. You only let her order on your account because hers 'wasn't working' supposedly. Now you have to wonder...

I would not let this go.

TwistedWonder · 23/03/2025 17:25

No they don’t

"Sorry hun, cant afford to treat anyone in this ecomnomy 😆 Send me £X for the food and I'll send you £2 for the fanta."

I would leave it personally but Cheeseplant's suggestion might work well otherwise.

Well...

They do here.

My DH is Indian and it's my absolute favourite type of food so we have eaten in a lot of Indian restaurants.

You’re not in London then because I’ve never been asked either/or unless it’s a Balti

In face even after you order rice, they’ll always ask ‘any naan’

No I'm not in London. Is the OP and everyone else?

Most Indian restaurants are Bangladeshi.
My husband is Indian and proper Indian restaurants are a rarity. We only go to one particular one, which serves authentic food.

Well it's probably safe to assume then that we are all talking about Bangladeshi restaurants in that case. I know the dishes we get are different to what MIL serves. My DH just said she serves regional dishes when I asked.

No way would I do that to a friend (or even have the balls to do it to anyone)

The thought of doing this makes me feel sick!! I’d be sending the money before I had even left their house!

Or on the south coast! We have both and stuff our fat faces, particularly on banquet nights, Thursday!

Spaghetti with a tyre

No wonder she’d rather have had a curry 😂

Teddybear23 · 23/03/2025 18:00

Remind her it was HER idea to have a curry, and you NEVER said it was your treat. Until she pays you back I’d consider it similar to theft😡 and never speak to her again.

oldmoaner · 23/03/2025 18:02

I'd say Indian was your idea, I'd already bought stuff to cook for us, but if you can't afford it, like me, then please feel free to visit again next week and you can foot the bill. Bet she won't visit again for a long time.

I don’t agree it’s a massive meal actually. When I have an Indian I’ll have onion bhaji starter with onion salad, veg biryani (inc rice), popadoms and naan and sometimes chips. NEVER in all my life have I been asked if I want rice OR naan when I have something other than biryani.

You obvs have issues with food so have a very strange outlook and I guess you make yourself feel better by insinuating we’re all greedy pigs and you are nothing but virtuous. I have a healthy bmi albeit on the high side of normal but I love my food so am happy with that.

IlooklikeNigella · 23/03/2025 18:14

I'm definitely not virtuous but at least I know when I'm eating too much.

The irony of considering 'stuffing yourself' a treat then telling other people they have food issues is strange to me.

That's great you have a healthy BMI.

Sleepytiredyawn · 23/03/2025 18:16

Her Just Eat app wasn’t working…she knew exactly what she was doing.

ThistleTits · 23/03/2025 18:16

@OnePeachA her just eat wasn't working, a likely tale. I've never had my app not work, yours worked. She had no intention of paying. CF.

IlooklikeNigella · 23/03/2025 18:17

And I've ALWAYS been asked if I want rice or naan so I guess we eat in different types of places (I've never heard of banquet nights) which might contribute to the difference in opinions.

Doesn't do online banking? How old is she?
