She ordered a Curry and hasn’t paid me

Friend came to my house

I was going to cook but she asked if I fancied a curry. I said that would be really nice actually

Her JustEat app wasn’t working so I said have a look on mine for places that are open. She picked Indian.

I put everything I wanted in and she added hers. Total came to £52ish. Over 65% of that cost was hers.

I said I could just check out and sort it later. I have messaged to ask if she had the money today as a gentle reminder, and she said she thought it was my treat?

I said oh, we must have got crossed wires then. She said ‘I did cover the shop’

She went to the corner shop for wine and snacks. I got a Grape Fanta!

Where do I go from here? Leave it? Was it reasonable for her to assume it was in fact my treat?

I never believe 'teeny tiny-wannabe' posters here, best ignored on any thread. I think they can't quite pull it off in real life so spout off online.

Sounds like you're projecting. Some people eat more than others, some people eat less than others, some people are satisfied and full with less food, and are OK with half a large takeaway naan bread.

No need to make spiteful little digs against people who aren't big eaters. I mean the odd little 'joke' is OK now and again, as I know some people find it incomprehensible that some people don't eat as much as them, but spiteful jibes like this are just unnecessary.

Some people have eating disorders, and feel bad for eating 'too much' and the teeny tiny jibes constantly spouted on here time and again are just plain nasty, and tedious, and really quite pathetic.

There is no need whatsover to make rude comments about smaller eaters. As I said, you're clearly projecting your food and appetite issues on here. (Like a few others!)

To be fair, there's also no need to question or insult the idea of people possibly eating more than you think it's acceptable/normal.

Why three naans?? @OnePeachA

Why not?

I haven't. Don't try to twist what I've said to defend the shitty 'teeny tiny' shite that people spout on here, ALL THE TIME! 🙄

As I said, it's pathetic and tedious, and everyone who posts it thinks they are totes hilaire and sooooo original. I cringe every time I see it.

As I said earlier, the odd wee light hearted comment now and again I can take, but it soon starts to become nasty and berating. Digging at people who don't have big appetites on every single thread like this, with the teeny tiny comments is just tedious and annoying.

BunnyLake · 23/03/2025 13:48

I will confess that I have never managed to eat an entire naan to myself in one sitting (and they're not particularly nice the next day).

No, I didn't mean you, I just pointed out that there is insulting going on both ways.

I'm not interested in your eating habits and they're really not relevant to this thread so why are you trying to insert them here? It's ridiculous.

Crikeyalmighty · 23/03/2025 13:49

It is not the same saying ‘you host it- you pay ‘ - if the host had said, do you fancy a curry instead, saves me cooking, my treat- then that’s different- but personally for manners and finances sake I wouldn’t go to someone’s house presuming I could suggest whatever I fancied and expect them to pay for both of us

But it's OK for the teeny tiny eaters to judge?

IlooklikeNigella · 23/03/2025 13:51

I think the food portions are outrageous also. Indian food is so rich and calorific, ordering extra sides is crazy. No wonder there is an obesity endemic. A main each plus one naan and one rice is a really substantial meal and more than a whole day's recommended calories usually.

But it has ZERO relevance to OP's issue.

Bitofanchange · 23/03/2025 13:52

RampantIvy · 23/03/2025 13:34

That isn't eating disorder anxiety trope.

Three full sized peshwari naan plus two rice and a main course each is an awful lot of food.

And? What evidence do you have that it’s a regular occurrence? Why are you even interested in commenting on someone on the internet’s food intake, when ordering a takeaway?

Really very very weird!

Yes, so why bother typing it all
out?

BunnyLake · 23/03/2025 13:54

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe · 23/03/2025 13:18

Yes, this is how it is in my world too. If you host, you pay. Whether you cook or get a takeaway in.

Etiquette rules prevent bad feeling if they're followed - or if you're just clear upfront as to who is paying for what so that everyone knows the score. Not difficult.

I think it very much depends on the circumstances. If you say, as the host, I’ll get us a takeaway, (and point out it’s your treat) then that is different, but not in a million years would I go to someone else’s house, suggest a takeaway then sit back and assume they’ll pay because it’s their house (even if I was there for their home cooked dinner).

The key though really is clear communication.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe · 23/03/2025 13:55

... and anybody who loves Indian takeaway knows that next-day leftovers are delicious!

Again, really irrelevant. But true.

LuckySantangelo35 · 23/03/2025 12:54

Why three naans?? @OnePeachA

For the love of all that’s holy, why do people keep trying to turn this thread into Rate My Plate?

It doesn’t matter why OP and her “friend” ordered three naans. It doesn’t matter whether it would cost that much in a different takeaway in a different town. The issue is who should pay, whatever the size of the bill and what it covered!!

IlooklikeNigella · 23/03/2025 13:56

Bitofanchange · 23/03/2025 13:52

Good point.

I guess, I want to object to people suggesting it's relevant; same as the outrage over the price.

But I really think it's mad that people are saying there is nothing strange about it. It is way too much food. People are saying it's not a regular occurrence. It should never happen in the same way that nobody should be ordering multiple desserts in restaurants. A main with one side of two half sided is enough of an indulgence, a treat, a rarity. Three naan breads is bizarre.

RampantIvy · 23/03/2025 13:56

@Bitofanchange you are very defensive. Are you a big eater?

@LyingWitchInTheWardrobe we often eat curry leftovers, but I would chuck the rice, and reaheated naan isn't very nice.

In the past (when I could afford takeaways) I would sometimes order more than I needed specifically to have some the following day.

I didn’t know there was a takeaway policing 😁

Have you not read all the teeny tiny eaters commenting on this thread? Why is it ok for them to spout there nonsense, but no one must disagree with them? Oh no, they can derail the thread and associate a nann with piggery.

If the thread asked “is this too much food”, then all the teeny tinies can shout “yes it is”, but until you’re asked, if you don’t want retaliation, then don’t comment.

Then you won’t be upset about the “spiteful” comments.

Simple!

HellDorado · 23/03/2025 13:59

just like if they cooked it would also be their 'treat' – I can't imagine someone inviting me for dinner and then asking me to pay for part of the food shopping, and this isn't really any different.

It’s completely different. OP was offering to cook. Friend didn’t want that and suggested takeaway instead. She hadn’t been invited for takeaway.

Teeny tiny eaters would not be ordering from an Indian takeaway I can assure you. I am far from a teeny tiny eater myself.

I’m a MASSIVE eater, I’d have four nanns to myself, chips, rice, starters, sides, mains the lot?

Is that ok with you? Shall I send you my address so can send the food police?
