godawful Gillette ad of man shaving his pubes

Sorry for the unpleasant topic but it’s driving me mad! Is this happening to anyone else? Every time I try to watch any video on YouTube, the ad that comes up is a Gillette ad of a man in the shower with a deep voice intoning ‘going to groom down there are we?’ There then follows a close-up of the man shaving hair off his body, not actually his pubes but as close as they can decently show. It is absolutely emetic and this has been going on for months. YouTube won’t show me any other ad. Apart from anything else I’m female so male shaving products are not relevant to me!!!! But also it’s so gross!!!! Not sexy or trying to be. It actually makes me feel sick. How do I make it stop?!!!!! I’m guessing I must have selected at some point that I didn’t want ‘targeted’ ads (I.e. ones they think are relevant to women in their early forties, of anti-aging cream etc) and this is how YouTube is punishing me. It’s relentless!

YABU - never seen or heard of this ad, you must have hallucinated it. Accept the targeted ads and come over to the world of Dove face cream

YANBU - it’s following me around too and yes, it’s unforgivably awful

I haven't seen this ad ... I'm not going to look it up so it haunts me either 🤣

ItGhoul · 20/03/2025 21:54

It makes you feel sick? What’s sickening about it?!

I don’t want to watch an unsexy stranger shaving his pubes. I don’t actually think anyone does?

No. I haven't seen it.

fluffyblanky · 20/03/2025 21:58

I don’t think it would particularly bother me.

Redpeach · 20/03/2025 21:58

The ad sounds awful, but even worse that men feel the need to do it

Treesandsheepeverywhere · 20/03/2025 22:19

Similar to woman on the loo with period on pad.

Fagli · 20/03/2025 22:21

What have you been googling for that advert to come up on YouTube?!! I thought the adverts were based on your searches?

sorechalfonts · 20/03/2025 22:22

i also dislike the new sure deodorant for everywhere with the ‘ balls ‘ resembling a large camel toe

SabrinaToolmaker · 20/03/2025 22:22

I remember once seeing a ball-shaving kit advertised on YouTube as a Father’s Day gift. It wasn’t Gillette though. Maybe one of those brands you only see online.

I’ve never seen an ad with that. Just those stupid ones where they used to pour blue liquid on the pads to show you how absorbent they were. In my experience period product ads are incredibly careful not to be remotely graphic.

Edited

Probably just innocently watching a crochet tutorial, there is no control over the ads on YouTube unfortunately

I don’t want to watch an unsexy stranger shaving his pubes. I don’t actually think anyone does?

But you’ve said you don’t see his pubes
you seem very repulsed by the mere thought of pubes

candycane222 · 20/03/2025 22:26

Aaah how horrible for you. Yes I would find that disagreeable to see once, because as a pp I'd think "why" (and then start wondering about the stubble 😭). To see all the time would definitely do my head in.
Are you logged in to youtube? what happens if you log out?
Also if you are watching n a browser, try duckduckgo (that i use for mumsnet) as it blocks a lot of tracking.

Oh yeah to be fair I’ve seen that one, it is sort of the female equivalent.

I’m not logged into YouTube. Will have to try duckduckgo, thanks for the suggestion @candycane222! I honestly don’t know what I searched for that produced this??????! I mostly just use YouTube for pop songs I want to listen to. I can’t even remember searching for a song that would particularly trigger the ‘ads targeted at males’ algorithm! Let alone this, again and again and again for months!!!!!!

Can't remember the brand, but she's sitting on the loo, knickers down with red "blood" on her pad.

It's just body hair and you said you can't see his pubes anyway 🤷‍♂️

Plus, I'm not sure you'd want to see it even if you did deem him 'sexy' enough for you.

Grammarnut · 20/03/2025 23:28

ItGhoul · 20/03/2025 21:54

Well, it's unhealthy. You shouldn't shave your pubes, it can cause lots of skin irritation, spots etc.
Also, when women do it they look pre-pubescent (think this might be the point?) which is deeply creepy as well as pornified.
Tacky advert. I skip them now Youtube has thrown a fit about ad-blockers. I don't watch films there, though.

BrandonFlowersEyesWithEyeliner · 20/03/2025 23:34

I've not seen it.

But, I don't find a man shaving pubes off remotely attractive. I don't want a bald as a coot penis. I find it a bit nauseating. I like hair on a man.

Equally it pisses me off that women feel pressured to shave it all off. A trim should be good enough. Pre pubescent look isn't cool

Hoardasurass · 20/03/2025 23:41

@ThatNimblePeer have you tried clicking the 3 dots on the add you should get a drop down menu which will have don't show this add again and most importantly why am I seeing this add

This is pretty irrelevant though.

No-one should take any notice of other people's opinions on their own personal body hair.

Ooo😎

MidnightMillie · 20/03/2025 23:45

And no grown woman resembles a pre pubescent child just because she's removed her pubic hair.

Just as she wouldn't resemble a newborn baby if she removed the hair on her head.
