godawful Gillette ad of man shaving his pubes

ThatNimblePeer · 20/03/2025 21:51

Sorry for the unpleasant topic but it’s driving me mad! Is this happening to anyone else? Every time I try to watch any video on YouTube, the ad that comes up is a Gillette ad of a man in the shower with a deep voice intoning ‘going to groom down there are we?’ There then follows a close-up of the man shaving hair off his body, not actually his pubes but as close as they can decently show. It is absolutely emetic and this has been going on for months. YouTube won’t show me any other ad. Apart from anything else I’m female so male shaving products are not relevant to me!!!! But also it’s so gross!!!! Not sexy or trying to be. It actually makes me feel sick. How do I make it stop?!!!!! I’m guessing I must have selected at some point that I didn’t want ‘targeted’ ads (I.e. ones they think are relevant to women in their early forties, of anti-aging cream etc) and this is how YouTube is punishing me. It’s relentless!

YABU - never seen or heard of this ad, you must have hallucinated it. Accept the targeted ads and come over to the world of Dove face cream

YANBU - it’s following me around too and yes, it’s unforgivably awful

I've seen it a zillion times. Made me think the analytics have gone wrong somewhere, as I'm female and don't shave my pubes.

So you honestly think the vagina of a grown woman can resemble a vagina belonging to a little girl?

If my daughter’s vagina looked anything at all like mine, I’d take her to my GP immediately for an urgent referral.

I’d also do the same for myself if I suddenly started to look like a newborn baby due to hair loss.

Strange that you’d disagree with any of that.

Oh come on, it's a nod to the younger version of the female

Bananalanacake · 21/03/2025 08:53

I didn't know men shaved their pubes, I thought they fell out in the wash as I'm always finding them on DH's pants.
Anyway, we pay 10 euros a month not to have adverts on YouTube on our smart TV, worth every cent.

Itsyourwifeymacrid · 21/03/2025 10:48

I think alot of people are bit offended by it,the point is why make ads about shaving ya pubes off,now there's ads about it kids are going to be doing it,kids see these ads aswel it's not just one person that's seen it,I seen a ad on you tube for a drinks bottle and the woman's rubbing it up and down and shaking it and stuff, clearly impersonating a penis, it's stupid there's to much of this going on now it needs to stop,we would never see adverts like that when we was kids and I'd feel so embarrassed seeing something like that when I'm sat with my mam and dad,our kids ain't any different they just have no option but to see it now and it's the norm

Well, it's unhealthy. You shouldn't shave your pubes, it can cause lots of skin irritation, spots etc.
Also, when women do it they look pre-pubescent (think this might be the point?) which is deeply creepy as well as pornified.
Tacky advert. I skip them now Youtube has thrown a fit about ad-blockers. I don't watch films there, though.

Oh stop with the prepubescent clap trap. I only hear this from highly repressed individuals.
do you shave your arm pits? Does that make you look deviant and attractive to paedofiles?

Do you think this about armpits too? Honestly, women removing body hair isn’t all about looking prepubescent.

I assume you don’t remove any body hair

Absolutely agree 👍 (but we're not allowed to say that as that makes us uptight prudes who've sewn up our vaginas )

Shaving is unhealthy? Really? Men manage to do it every day.

There is nothing creepy about removing any body hair. And there’s nothing prepubescent about a woman who has had a wax.

Do you also think clean shaved men look pre-pubescent?

I detest the trend for pube removal and the increasingly distasteful adverts.
There really is no need to be so explicit.
I also hate the number of tv drams which now seem to think it is cutting edge to see someone sat on the loo.

I completely agree. God forbid we're allowed to believe in a bit of decency or modesty anymore. We have to be so open minded our brains are spilling out. Anything less is just "wrong" fact 🙄

HereForTheFreeLunch · 21/03/2025 13:56

You can right click and send feedback sometimes not to show a particular add. There will be a tiny arrow symbol on one of the corners if that's possible.

I have done it sometimes when a particular add creeps me out for whatever reason.

Jade520 · 21/03/2025 13:59

I agree OP, it's grim. Why does the bloke have to be shaving his pubes FGS, just have him shaving his face. We really shouldn't be telling men that they need to be shaving all their pubes off - and the plucked chicken look is not nice IMO anyway. Young women have already been completely pornified, next stop men I guess. It's just sad and unnecessary - and the advert is grim.

NarnianQueen · 21/03/2025 14:04

I keep getting ads with suggestions on what I should be doing this Ramadan… no idea what, I’m not Muslim and haven’t been watching any videos that would suggest I am!

BobbyBiscuits · 21/03/2025 14:08

There was one a while back with that guy who used to be a swimmer, bought a couple kids with some much older man?
He looked like it was pretty much showing him shaving his pubes, or at least just above it. It gave me the major creeps.
Yeah, I don't want to see strange men's bodies below the waist in adverts being groomed/shaved etc. why would anyone?

AfricanGreen · 21/03/2025 14:10

I have a bogey advert I can't get rid of!
A young bloke with a dour voice going on about middle aged ladies who can't fit into their clothes. I have tried to block it SO MANY times.

lifemakeover · 21/03/2025 14:23

Have only skimmed the thread, so not sure if someone has mentioned this already....When the advert appears you can click on the three dots underneath it and then clock block (or even report)

That does sound quite grim OP. On a different but similar subject I keep seeing the 'Merwave' add and every time I do I read it as 'Merkin' 😂

LegoTherapy · 21/03/2025 14:48

I’m noticed a big push in ads that are below the belt. Laxatives, Viagra and similar, women shaving pubes, incontinence issues, pepto bismal singing about diarrhoea. There didn’t used to be so many of this type of advert. Shaving pubes goes too far. You’re unreasonable about men’s shaving products though-I use them as find them better.

No, because armpits are not genitals

Solidarity for all of us haunted by bogey ads! That one sounds annoying as f*!

Shaving pubes really is a lot riskier than legs or face. The hairs are typically thicker and coarser, and it's really common to have micro-abrasions. And that area tends to be in a warm, dark, and even damp environment all day.

There have been people who had major infections from shaving pubes, particularly diabetics.
