It’s goodbye from me

I’ve been on mumsnet since the early days, it’s seen my family grow up and become adults, seen me become a grandparent.

its been a happy place, a supportive place through thick and thin and I’ve made lots of contacts who I will miss.

the supportive threads are being lost amongst ones of hatred and intolerance for difference, for the others and by threads about high incomes not being enough, of how disabled people are increasingly hated, how children with SEND are an inconvenience. Boomers, of which I am not one, are hated.

is there anybody mumsnet members actually like?

im taking a break, however long is needed until the hatred is less.

I'm sorry 😔

I have to agree with you. Being a disabled person, I was in tears after reading those threads.

I'm sorry it's upset you. I also feel upset by what I've been reading on social media recently xx

It has been horrible.

Moonlightdust · 19/03/2025 19:44

You’re not wrong about some of the awful goading posts though. Definitely increased since I first joined mumsnet but it’s rife everywhere online these days sadly 😔

MayaPinion · 19/03/2025 19:45

Byeeeee 👋👋👋

JanglingJack · 19/03/2025 19:46

@Mydogisamassivetwat

I've only just clocked your username! That's another chuckle for me tonight. I might have to calm myself! That sounds wrong.

Juniegirl · 19/03/2025 19:48

People are naive if they think that there are individuals that don’t exaggerate to get sickness benefits. If someone is genuinely disabled and needs benefits to live then I have no issue. It’s the ones that make a living out of not working because they cannot be bothered and expect the state and the taxpayers to pay for them.

People have had enough of it and that’s why feelings are running high. Rightly so.

EmeraldShamrock000 · 19/03/2025 19:49

I understand that you are frustrated.

I have taken breaks in the past, but there is no need to announce it.

Mumsnet has always been a catty, judgemental place, depending on what sides of the tracks you came from.

I agree that sometimes it is worse, but the tone was set years ago.

OTOH there is 100's of sound supportive posters that I notice on threads, giving solid advice, not always with sweeteners, but honest and thought provoking.

Lwrenn · 19/03/2025 19:51

@solongandthxforthefish it's a shame you are leaving, I think MN could use nicer posters.
Sometimes people post things so deeply nasty I actually feel sad for them. It's not about being forthright or honest for some people it's genuinely cruel and to be so miserable to behave that way anonymously must mean they are either deeply unhappy or lacking even the smallest amount of compassion.

Look after your mental wellbeing 💐

Read the room for God's sake. The amount of PIP fraud is miniscule. Plus PIP has nothing to do with ability to work.

Are your feelings running as high about tax evasion?

AspiringChatBot · 19/03/2025 19:54

Dear The OP,

If indeed you are no longer enjoying or benefiting from your time on this forum, then I agree that you should leave. No one has to understand or agree with your reasons, and likely most people won't share your exact experience or perspective. (I, for example, still prefer it here to e.g., Reddit, where I and others like me are regarded and treated as if we are inanimate objects designed solely to serve and please the 49% of the human race who are widely acknowledged to be "real" humans.)

Take care; I for one will miss you immensely!

Best,
Chatty

Bloody hell!

No, it definitely wasn't Cosmo. I feel like I should say 'thankfully'!

It was similar to here in terms of subject matter but smaller with a lot more usernames you’d recognise. I’ve always wondered if anyone from there is here now which is why I asked!

Livelovebehappy · 19/03/2025 19:56

Why can’t you just avoid AIBU? After all, there’s so many other sections which are very helpful and informative on MN. Agree, AIBU is something of a bear pit sometimes, but in amongst the sniping there’s sometimes good advice to be had. It’s if you go on the political or lifestyle posts where people are very passionate about the subject, when things can kick off.

PandoraSox · 19/03/2025 19:57

ThePurpleBuffalo · 19/03/2025 19:52

They seem to be breeding like rats on MN at the moment. With apologies to rats 🐀.

While you may be a tit, nobody cares if you bounce.

I think it’s because it’s given to working people is why it should be looked at. People can earn huge salaries, and are still able to apply for it. It really needs to be means tested. In my opinion.

Andwhoisasking · 19/03/2025 20:00

Is this an airport now? I didn’t know departures needed to be announced. Is this a good old fashioned flounce?

No, not me.

I did come across someone on here with same username as previous forum. I did a sort of nod nod, wink wink, codeword... Do I recognise you from somewhere else?
They must have immediately changed names because apparently they never posted again 🤣

Yeah...

Dymaxion · 19/03/2025 20:02

I think Mumsnet is a bit like real life, your family, friends and colleagues get caught up in petty squabbles, but when the shit really hits the fan, people step up to help.
Like you, I am getting on a bit, and when I look back over the last 30 years, where I actually took note of what was going on in the world as opposed to the more fun stuff, its always been the case that people are on the look out for someone to scapegoat for any ills the country is suffering, poor people, single mothers, immigrants, the disabled, they have all had their turn in the spotlight, some numerous times. It conveniently detracts attention from those people who are responsible for the shit or are making a profit from the shit, or simply haven't figured out how to deal with the shit !

Stillslowly · 19/03/2025 20:03

I’ve been here since at least 2011, and I remember being truly shocked by how horrible people were on here when I joined, so I am not convinced by people saying how great snd lovely Mumsnet used to be. It’s always been a brutal place.

There are absolute wonderful women here and some utter, utter arses. And thats its appeal. True diversity of people, characters and opinions, all allowed to co-exist. So few places are like this.

Means testing PIP would cost more than it saved.

Most working disabled people earn less than their non-disabled counterparts.

Disabled people can't win. If they claim PIP and don't work, it's wrong. If they claim PIP and work, it's wrong.

BoredZelda · 19/03/2025 20:04

coldcallerbaiter · 19/03/2025 17:58

Disabled people aren’t hated. The rise in claimants is not supportable.

Just the newly disabled then?

I remember in the early days quite a few of us were here from handbag and I think was it damsels before that?

Tumblingthrough · 19/03/2025 20:07

Bye 👋 Good Luck

yeah, I know how you feel.
I’ve been here for years (20 or so) but rarely now and change name frequently. I do think a lot of it is me though, I just haven’t got the patience for all the crap any more. 😂
