AIBU to continue turning in the school gate?

I drive my dd to school everyday and once I drop her off I turn around and drive home. I approach the back gate of the school and use this entrance to turn my car round so I can head back home.
The school have now put up a sign saying keep our children safe, no stopping, dropping off or turning in the entrance.
So where am I supposed to turn around? If I carry on I reach the front gate which is busier and has the busses. If I turn before I reach the back entrance I am doing a three point turn in busy school run traffic with lots of children walking and cycling.
So AIBU to say I am safest turning in the large double gate and ignoring the new sign?

I would stop further up the road and walk further. Even if I had to walk for 5 minutes I'd rather do that than turn around in the school gate when there are loads of kids around!

Drive through the gates and use the playground to turn around?

Kids these days can’t be too young to learn about road safety.

Wear some hi-viz and have your hazards on, no one will bat an eyelid.

No33 · 19/03/2025 15:47

My kids school have started to refer car details to the police because some aren't listening to the rules.

So go ahead, but expect consequences.

FatherFrosty · 19/03/2025 15:47

I don’t think the ops coming back

TickingAlongNicely · 19/03/2025 15:48

Maybe you could reverse up the road instead?

Tdcp · 19/03/2025 15:49

I live opposite daughters school, parents are always turning around in the drive and there are so many near misses with the children, I honestly don't know how one hasn't been knocked down so far. The school are constantly asking parents to stop doing this but they don't listen. Your kids school have asked you to stop because it's dangerous, find somewhere else to turn around and stop being so selfish.

MsFogi · 19/03/2025 15:51

Does anyone else think the school has put this sign up for the OP because they don't have the balls to tell him/her direct to stop f**king turning around in the school gate!! OP lots of other people live in this world and it doesn't just revolve around you and your dc.

OldLondonDad · 19/03/2025 15:56

WTF? What do you think they put a sign up for? To stop you doing what you're doing!!!

Park your car 1 minute away. Walk your kid to school. Respect the signs. How hard can it be?

People like me who live near a school are not so sure it's AI/reverse.

Absolutely. Sounds completely plausible to me (I live very close to a school. The entitlement from parents, who are asked not to use my road several times a year (but do so anyway), is quite something).

Eightdayz · 19/03/2025 16:02

You're part of the reason school run mums have a bad rep.

Bumblebeestiltskin · 19/03/2025 16:03

Why are you such an entitled twat?

RockaLock · 19/03/2025 16:03

Assuming it is not a cul-de-sac, you don’t turn in the road at all. You carry on driving, and do a drive around the block to get back the way you want to go.

Are people these days not aware that is an option? The amount of people I see doing turns in the (busy, main) road after dropping their children off at the school near me is unbelievable. Stop holding me up, stop holding up all the rest of the traffic, stop thinking your time is more important than everyone else’s and just drive around the bloody block. Or at the very least find a very quiet side road or turn around in. It’s not difficult!.

I think we need a diagram OP

this

ClaredeBear · 19/03/2025 16:11

You are the minority that caused this sign to go up in the first place. I can’t believe you didn’t write this and decide not to click “post”.

ShroudedOrchard · 19/03/2025 16:12

Ideally you carry on what you’re doing - but first pull over for a few minutes. Take a phone call while leaving the engine running. Let the kids and staff breathe the exhaust fumes in. The whole air pollution “problem” is just made up by the global elite anyway. Make sure to still be holding the phone when you pull off. Everyone else will soon learn who’s most important!

ShroudedOrchard · 19/03/2025 16:12

Also make sure you have a personalised number plate.

Luddite26 · 19/03/2025 16:13

I would hope this is a joke but over the years I have seen every parental entitlement going when it comes to parking at schools and drop offs.
So just in case it's not made up...
Crack on as long as your child is safe nothing else matters.

viques · 19/03/2025 16:14

Lulubo1 · 19/03/2025 15:40

What part of "its for the children's safety" do you not understand!? Are you that stupid?? If your child was injured because an idiotic, selfish parent ignored a sign what would you do? How would you feel? I'm blown away at your selfishness! An injured child or a couple minutes behind a bus....think about it!

But the OPs child won’t be injured because she is parking so close to the school she could hand her in to the teacher through the classroom window. How is it her fault if the other stupid parents haven’t worked out how to keep their own children safe.

Guinessandafire · 19/03/2025 16:20

The saddest thing about this thread, even though it's obvioulsy someone being mischievous, is that it's an all too familiar and real scenario that most of us see on a daily basis.

No matter how many messages the school send out, how often parking enforcement officers spot check, how many pupil initiatives there are ...parents and grandparents just do what they want as they are that selfish.

A house on the same road as my DS school had a fire at school drop off time. The fire engine couldn't through due to inconsiderately and illegally parked cars. A huge warning and last chance email was sent round by the school. The cars were back parking in the same places for school pick up.

You can never underestimate how selfish and stupid people are.

Peaceandquietandacuppa · 19/03/2025 16:25

I always wonder if people are just totally oblivious to how selfish they are being…. This answers it 🤣

fitzwilliamdarcy · 19/03/2025 16:28

Surely there must be a street nearby with drives you can park across? There might be some cross residents but they'll be fine once you tell them you'll only be 10 minutes!

handsdownthebest · 19/03/2025 16:28

Please tell me this is made up or a reverse 🙄

PlanningTowns · 19/03/2025 16:29

Given your position in the community and importance of you just generally, I would suggest that the sign is not intended for you but for every other parent at school. Therefore ignore the sign and continue turning there because why on earth would they expect you to have to turn somewhere else?

lastminutetrip · 19/03/2025 16:33

Get out the car and walk, and stop being a lazy, dangerous and illegal arsehole
