AIBU to continue turning in the school gate?

NortonBuns · 19/03/2025 14:18

I drive my dd to school everyday and once I drop her off I turn around and drive home. I approach the back gate of the school and use this entrance to turn my car round so I can head back home.
The school have now put up a sign saying keep our children safe, no stopping, dropping off or turning in the entrance.
So where am I supposed to turn around? If I carry on I reach the front gate which is busier and has the busses. If I turn before I reach the back entrance I am doing a three point turn in busy school run traffic with lots of children walking and cycling.
So AIBU to say I am safest turning in the large double gate and ignoring the new sign?

You ignorant so and so. You stop somewhere, walk your child to school then you walk back to your car (If you have to even drive). What kind of person comes on MN and asks if she should ignore a school telling you not to turn/park/drive somewhere.

A wind-up merchant. That's who.

This has to be a reverse, but then I guess the fact that someone has written it means there are parents that entitled out there in the world

DancefloorAcrobatics · 19/03/2025 15:23

🤷🏽‍♀️ Common sense prevails ....

Unless it's an AI parent.

outerspacepotato · 19/03/2025 15:25

This means you

Needs to be added to the sign

Oioisavaloy27 · 19/03/2025 15:25

Just park away from school the rules are there for a reason.

Crack on, you are more important than safety signs

It sounds like it's one of those signs that apply to everyone else only. For some reason the OP alone is utterly exempt.

SnoozingFox · 19/03/2025 15:26

People like me who live near a school are not so sure it's AI/reverse.

Despite their being a sports club next to DDs school which parents can use. The road outside school is full of double fucking parkers. There are bays either side and if these are full (or they can’t be arsed to pull in) they park on the road with their hazards. A few weeks ago 2 parents managed to block the entire road this week, it’s a busy road.
I don’t know how children walk about fairly big campuses all day, do PE, but the moment they walk out of a school gate they become totally disabled and use the use of their legs.

Im guessing OP if you drive 2 minutes down the road there is probably somewhere better to turn round. Your time is not that precious. Or drop them further down the road and they might have to use their legs for a whole 5 minute walk.

Covidwoes · 19/03/2025 15:28

Park and stride OP! That’s what I do. Yes, you have to leave earlier, but the walk does us good. And yes, I have to get to work too!

Stillslowly · 19/03/2025 15:29

Seriously? Park further away if you need to.

CatMum27 · 19/03/2025 15:32

They really do walk among us. Or drive in this case 🙄

Caroparo52 · 19/03/2025 15:33

YABU.
The school probably decided to do this because of the danger some selfish lazy parents are causing to the pupils. Think op. Think hard .... you know what the right thing to do here is.... you just cant be arsed

babiesinthesnowflakes · 19/03/2025 15:33

Park further away and walk, obviously.

sandyhappypeople · 19/03/2025 15:33

Is the school in a cul de sac? Surely you would just keep going and find an appropriate place to turn around if you need to go back the way you came? Or you drive a circular route that is slightly out of your way to get where you are going?

Quinlan · 19/03/2025 15:33

Walk.

Pull over at any point within walking distance of the school, let her out, drive around the nearest block. You don’t need to drop her at the doorstep of the school. Walk.

MarioLink · 19/03/2025 15:35

Park further away and walk. It is mayhem in the immediate area of the primary schools round here but arbour school and others if you walk 5 minutes there is loads of easybon street parking. The supermarkets also allow parents to use their car parks to drop at the nearest schools.

Derbee · 19/03/2025 15:36

Outrageous. The school should be much more accommodating to you and your DCs. Could you suggest (or insist) that everyone else starts school 15 mins later to leave the roads clearer for your drop off?

Perhaps the council could close the road for you, and you just call when you’ve done your drop off/pick up so they can reopen the road?

Could they rebuild the school much closer to your house, so you don’t need to drive/drop off?

Those are just three obvious solutions, and the fact that the school haven’t even suggested any of these before putting up a sign disrupting your driving is quite frankly ridiculous.

Oh this used to piss me right off when my daughter was at primary...I used to have to finish work at 1.30 to ensure I got there in time to pick her up at 3.15 (I don't drive), if the bus was on time I would arrive at 2.40 ish and have to sit there in all weathers eating my lunch if I didn't get a chance on the bus (too busy etc) and then when school was finished we would walk almost a mile home, hail, rain or shine. The amount of parents who thought their little darlings couldn't walk further than the car park gates was ridiculous - they would cram their cars onto every space available, almost knock everyone over in their mad rush to get home, and one little boy who was in a wheelchair had to start either waiting in the car park for the gates to re open at 3.30, or his parents had to park in one of the streets nearby.
It's not going to kill you parking a little further away, but parking where you shouldn't just might kill someone else! I'm sure if your child was hit by someone driving/parking where they shouldn't you would be the first to complain.

Daisymae23 · 19/03/2025 15:40

LTS(chool)!!!!!!

MrsMitford3 · 19/03/2025 15:40

I can't believe the comments you are getting.

Of course that sign is not intended for you!!!!
Just all the other parents.

Please ignore and carry on just as you please.

Lulubo1 · 19/03/2025 15:40

What part of "its for the children's safety" do you not understand!? Are you that stupid?? If your child was injured because an idiotic, selfish parent ignored a sign what would you do? How would you feel? I'm blown away at your selfishness! An injured child or a couple minutes behind a bus....think about it!

ButterCrackers · 19/03/2025 15:41

Park correctly further away and walk. Simple.

Absolutely ignore the safety of other people’s children and carry on in your self entitled ways. Or park further away and walk your child/children to the school gate like normal people.
