AIBU to continue turning in the school gate?

I drive my dd to school everyday and once I drop her off I turn around and drive home. I approach the back gate of the school and use this entrance to turn my car round so I can head back home.
The school have now put up a sign saying keep our children safe, no stopping, dropping off or turning in the entrance.
So where am I supposed to turn around? If I carry on I reach the front gate which is busier and has the busses. If I turn before I reach the back entrance I am doing a three point turn in busy school run traffic with lots of children walking and cycling.
So AIBU to say I am safest turning in the large double gate and ignoring the new sign?

You carry on driving and turn around at a safe spot, or do a loop around another road and come back on yourself. Obviously the school have decided its not safe to turn at the back gate.

There's a school near us where parents occasionally do three point turns in the road despite oncoming traffic. Drives me mad.

Bunnycat101 · 19/03/2025 14:29

Presumably they’ve put up the sign because they think you and others turning around in the school might risk a child being run over.

Our school had to send something round basically saying ‘don’t act like a dick you’ll run a child over in the carpark ’ but in much nicer language as parents were ignoring the instructions they didn’t think applied to them.

AlwaysFreezing · 19/03/2025 14:29

Crikey. Has to be a reverse!

Nowvoyager99 · 19/03/2025 14:30

I’m assuming this is a reverse and OP isn’t the entitled twat she’s painting herself to be.

You park. You get out the car and walk your child to school. You walk back to your car and drive away.

Gundogday · 19/03/2025 14:30

PurpleThistle7 · 19/03/2025 14:24

I really, really hope this is a reverse but judging from the parking nonsense around my kids' schools am guessing sadly not.

‘Really hope this is a reverse..’.

Not sure whether it was intentional to call it ‘a reverse’ in a thread about driving and turning around… . Anyway, made me smile.

ScienceFanGirl · 19/03/2025 14:30

It must be so nice to live in a world where only you matter.

Crikey. Has to be a reverse!

clearly not a reverse - OP can only do 3 point turns in restricted areas 😂

PlanetOtter · 19/03/2025 14:30

Someone regularly parks right across the zebra crossing by DD’s nursery, with her hazard lights on because she’s only going to be 2 mins.

So I believe OP is genuine. Some people are just selfish and oblivious.

SlipperyLizard · 19/03/2025 14:31

The cul de sac which leads to our local primary school entrance was made no entry for vehicles (except for residents) at school drop off/pick up times to protect children walking to school.

Except of course for some selfish parents who thought that didn’t apply to them as their precious child needed to be dropped oh so close to the gate.

Park further away & walk, OP, or continue being a twat and putting other people’s children at risk for your own convenience.

BitOutOfPractice · 19/03/2025 14:32

YY carry on doing what suits you and fuck the rest of the world. Your child must be proud.

Flossflower · 19/03/2025 14:32

Unless this is a joke you are being totally and utterly selfish.

TomatoSandwiches · 19/03/2025 14:36

Clearly you need to park infront of someone's driveway and walk your little darling to the gates.

grumpypedestrian · 19/03/2025 14:38

TickingAlongNicely · 19/03/2025 14:28

Are you related to the drivers who think its necessary to mount the pavement outside our local school so that "technically" they aren't on the double yellow line?

(Nb... it is illegal parking and they get tickets when the police do their irregular checks. There are frequent near misses)

I walk past a primary school at drop off, there’s always a Land Rover (driver sat in it) where they have mounted the pavement. Taking no notice of Y5/6 pupils walking alone or parents with pushchairs. The ignorance and entitlement is shocking.

Waterlilysunset · 19/03/2025 14:40

OP are you joking? You don’t just do manoeuvres wherever you fancy bc it suits you. You keep driving until you find an appropriate place.

ForRealCat · 19/03/2025 14:42

Times like this I think mumsnet needs 3 voting options:
YANBU
YABU
YATD - You are a total dick

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 19/03/2025 14:42

What you need to do is PARK well away from the school at a place where it’s safe to turn and go back home, get out of the car, walk your child to the school, walk back again, turn and drive home.

Or drive well past the school, park and do the same, if there’s no where on your side of the school where it’s safe to park and turn.

Is there anyway to make a loop instead, after you’ve gone back to your car?

mynameiscalypso · 19/03/2025 14:43

Why are (some) people such idiots when they drive their kids to school? We now have a traffic warden who stands outside at drop off time to stop parents parking in their usual ridiculous and dangerous ways and twice there have been incidents of parents hurling abuse at the traffic warden, in front of all the kids and teachers. Blows my mind.

Cutecattoes · 19/03/2025 14:43

Wtf is wrong with you?

TheWonderhorse · 19/03/2025 14:44

No of course you can't ignore the sign.

BUT...why all schools don't have designated drop off points bewilders me.

Picotee · 19/03/2025 14:44

Can you drive round the block to get to where you need to be?

Simbaonedaythiswillallbeyours · 19/03/2025 14:44

Noone is idiotic enough to even ask this, so its for sure a reverse.

This parent should park further away and walk their child in OR just walk their kid to school and leave the car at home.
If you know who the parent is, report them to the school so they can contact them directly. I bet their car is a huge 4x4 or a BMW.

Nodddy · 19/03/2025 14:45

Children die if you drop them more than 6 inches from the school gate.

They also get bullied if you don't drive a 4x4 when doing so.

B1indEye · 19/03/2025 14:45

Crack on, you are more important than safety signs

Park further away and walk the last part with your child. It’s a no brainer. The school sign is there for a reason and imagine how you’d feel if there was an accident. Not worth it.

Poppins2016 · 19/03/2025 14:47

I live near a school and the sheer entitlement of parents makes me furious. I know that the school send out multiple communications over the course of the school year asking parents not to drive into the road I live in, but parents still insist on thinking it doesn't apply to them (who does it apply to, then)? They drive down the road to drop off, they park and wait to pick up, sit with the engine idling so we end up with exhaust fumes inside the house during the summer, turn, you name it... It is dangerous (with the amount of children milling about, plus people who can't drive thinking they own the road), antisocial and irritating. The really infuriating thing is that it's a secondary school, so the children are more than capable of getting to the school by themselves and don't need escorting to the door/car park at all 🤦‍♀️
