Would you consider this “having stuffed yourself all day”

I was talking to a friend and she accused me of competitive underrating, which i certainly was not doing! I referred to my eating as having stuffed my face all day and she told me to get a grip and she found what I said triggering!

What I ate:

  • Scrambled eggs (2 eggs) with veggies toasted sarnie
  • Beans on toast (2 slices)
  • Half a carton of precut pineapple
  • chicken wings and celery with hot sauce
  • a child’s plate of ravioli and homemade cheese sauce (this was on top off my dinner and purely a craving, I was full so it was very much not needed)

I went to bed uncomfortably stuffed. So to me i did “stuff my face all day”

What do you think?

Definitely not stuffing yourself ! You had 1 dinner and s child’s portion I eat way more than this every day!

Nottsandcrosses · 17/03/2025 12:13

Well its approximately 1400-1600 calories so depending on your height and fitness level you are infact under eating.

Ah edited to see you added your height, still not stuffing more like maintenance.

wherearemypastnames · 17/03/2025 12:12

Op had a lot more than a few bites of salad
depending on her height and activity she had more than enough calories for that day - wtf is stuffed if not more than enough food ?

Saying I'm stuffed is saying I'm full.
Saying I've been stuffing myself with food all day is putting a moral judgement on eating.

BreastfeedingWedding · 17/03/2025 12:14

Yes I would consider it so. Not so much on a calorie level as I have no idea of some of these portions. But 4 meals and you haven’t let yourself get hungry so I would feel uncomfortably stuffed too.

applestrudels · 17/03/2025 12:14

I think you both have a bit of a strange attitude towards food....

You had a very sturdy breakfast, lunch, a snack, and then dinner (you call it "two dinners", but the first dinner had no carbs at all, which is bound to make you feel a bit hungry later on.

I'd say that's fairly normal. Certainly not "competitive undereating", but not "stuffing yourself all day" either (which I would call snacking all day and having very large meals...).

Although your comment on "4 slices of shit bread" makes it sound like perhaps you normally have a bit of an unhealthy relationship with food and dieting... but I'm just speculating here. I think you ate a normal amount.

ThatJolly · 17/03/2025 12:06

I just did the maths, the chicken wings (my planned dinner) were 800 calories (pretty much a McDonald’s).

I probably ate 1100 calories for dinner ALONE. Come on now, that is objectively high

Edited

It’s really not for a one off

You sound like you have major issues with food.

BobbyBiscuits · 17/03/2025 12:15

If you listed what you've eaten to her and referred to one of the meals as a 'child's plate' it makes it sound pretty small, and deliberately so.
And there's a big difference between three chicken wings and 12.

I guess the fact you reeled off what most would consider three meals a day plus a couple snacks and claimed it was excessive? Maybe she eats that amount every day and finds it normal?

I've never been accused of 'competitive undereating'. I'd find that pretty offensive, but I am in recovery for ED so a bit different.

Does your friend often talk about how much you or people eat, or do you?
Are you very slim? Are either of you on a diet?

I don't think it's that healthy to be so preoccupied with what others eat. So maybe just don't talk to her about food anymore.

Sunat45degrees · 17/03/2025 12:15

I find it hard to get my head roudn why, when you ask if saying that you had stuffed your face was inappropriate, and you get lots of people telling you that yes, it was, even as many of those same people also acknowlege that no one is suggesting you ate very little or super healthily, and yetyou refuse to see why your friend might not have been wild about your comment.

ThatJolly · 17/03/2025 12:15

It was probably over 1700 calories which is very much over my maintenance level on days I am inactive. I just plugged it in to myfitnesspal

ItalianChineseIndianMexican · 17/03/2025 12:15

I would have expected someone 'stuffing their face' to have eaten much more than you did. And probably to have included at least some cake / choc / crisps / biscuits etc.

snickersbarchild · 17/03/2025 12:16

Not read the thread in case it sways me but my first reaction was that that was not a huge amount of food of you are a physically active (run off your feet with kids, job etc...) but also not a small amount either. Just right, in my book - so you were both wrong.

arcticpandas · 17/03/2025 12:16

When in a really good italian restaurant I "stuff" myself : beers, a pizza and tiramisu for dessert. But I would call it that I have eaten well but feeling a bit full. And I'm far from overweight. "Stuffing myself" would mean overeating to me like indulging on cookies (a whole paquet) or crisps ( a whole large paquet) or two chocolate bars (100g ×2). Like something out of the ordinary.

I’m just bring accurate. I didn’t sit down to eat a plate of ravioli. I just wolfed it down when I was clearing up and it probably worked out to being a child’s full portion.

On average, a woman should eat around 2000 calories a day so you're way under that which suggests you weren't 'stuffing your face' in the sense most people would see it.

TheCurious0range · 17/03/2025 12:17

That's not 800 calories of wings, it says 225 calories per 100g excluding bones, the pack is 350g including bones

ETA Google tells me around 45% of a chicken wing is bone, so your pack contained roughly 435 calories

Tiswa · 17/03/2025 12:17

1700 calories isnt stuffing your face at all!

Msmoonpie · 17/03/2025 12:18

I don’t think it is but because you presumably ate twice before bed it probably felt more like it was ?

Nowvoyager99 · 17/03/2025 12:18

Stuffing your face all day incorporates doughnuts, crisps, chocolate, great wodges of cheese, or whatever your personal preference is.

It is not equable with meeting your daily calorific requirement or feeling full.

HTH.

FrozenFeathers · 17/03/2025 12:18

Good grief, OP! You seem to feel guilty over eating anything at all. Your posts are filled with justifications over what you ate and why, when none are needed. Just eat your food. You don't have to tell anyone about it and you don't have to explain or defend yourself. If you feel you should, then you really ought to get some therapy.

ThatJolly · 17/03/2025 11:50

Two dinners?

one being ravioli covered in cheese sauce

It’s not two dinners though is it? A bit of the kids’ leftovers does not = one dinner.

I’m 5 ft 2. And normally get my exercise in the form of dog walks but as I wasn’t feeling great my husband took the dogs out. I didn’t leave the sofa pretty much

ZenNudist · 17/03/2025 12:18

It was breakfast lunch and dinner plus fruit? Sounds normal. I mean if you avoid carbs then I could see how it's a cheat day. I could also see that youd be full if you arent a carb eater. Chicken wings plus a side of pasta is a healthy enough dinner.

I think your friend is right.

Stuffing your face would be a massive breakfast, massive lunch and/or dinner plus snacks in between and after.

Moopsie · 17/03/2025 12:19

I wouldn’t say that was overeating at all and I also hate the term “stuffing my/your face” because it places a moral value on eating, which is wrong.

She may have grown up with a mother like mine who still berates me (now very much middle aged) for eating a very normal three meals a day because she constantly judges her own food intake and has always put being slim above all else.

Whatsitreallylike · 17/03/2025 12:19

ThatJolly · 17/03/2025 11:55

Friend asked. We met for a coffee and i didnt order a panini like i usually would cause i genuinely was not hungry. I told friend this and she said “go on, tell me what you ate”.

Very condescendingly too

Edited

Hang on… when you say you met for a coffee, are you talking about the folllowing day? I.e you met for coffee/brunch then next day after ‘stuffing your face’ with what looks to be no more than the recommended daily intake of calories the day before?

If so then yes you are being very unreasonable and shouldn’t use your food issues to try and shame your ‘friend’

What i will say is that is a VERY average number, it depends on height and levels of activity to determine that.

OP is 5,2 so already her maintenance cals will be alot lower than say me at 5.9, then we have her weight to consider, if shes 8 stone then her maintenance will be way lower than someone whos say 11 stone.

Thats without even taking into consideration her activity levels.
