Would you consider this “having stuffed yourself all day”

ThatJolly · 17/03/2025 11:43

I was talking to a friend and she accused me of competitive underrating, which i certainly was not doing! I referred to my eating as having stuffed my face all day and she told me to get a grip and she found what I said triggering!

What I ate:

  • Scrambled eggs (2 eggs) with veggies toasted sarnie
  • Beans on toast (2 slices)
  • Half a carton of precut pineapple
  • chicken wings and celery with hot sauce
  • a child’s plate of ravioli and homemade cheese sauce (this was on top off my dinner and purely a craving, I was full so it was very much not needed)

I went to bed uncomfortably stuffed. So to me i did “stuff my face all day”

What do you think?

A day of 'stuffing' would be
Wetherspoons Big Breakfast 1334 kcal
Mcdonalds big mac meal 1120 kcal
Pizza express pollo and pancetta pizza 1119 kcal...
And now am hungry!!

What is wrong with carbs?
Our body needs them

NOthing wrong with carbs. I just had a sandwich. But this day's food was proportionally quite high in carbs vs fresh fruit/vegetables (but not protein). But overall, as I said, wouldn't see that as particular issue.

SonnySun · 17/03/2025 13:13

I'm 5 ft and only do some light stretching a couple of times a week but I eat considerably more than what you mentioned and no, that wouldn't count as "stuffing my face".
The comments from certain people in my life regarding my food intake do annoy me occasionally. "I like to eat light. I can't possibly finish that slice. It's a waste to eat all that etc.."

sweeneytoddsrazor · 17/03/2025 13:13

When was this panini ordered? The next day?

So you had the equivalent of scrambled egg on toast for breakfast
Beans on toast for lunch
Chicken, pasta and veg with a sauce for evening meal.
That's perfectly normal . I get not wanting a panini the same evening but if you met the following lunch time then I would expect you to eat something

TwinklyRoseTurtle · 17/03/2025 13:16

I think you ate well not stuffed though, the main issue I think is your friendship…

That would be a lot of food for me in a day but does happen on period days.

anyone who thinks two meals made up of two slices of bread and then a pasta dish isn’t a lot of food is eating more than they need to.

That's such an incorrect generalisation.
It's possible to have bread and pasta in your diet without overeating. As an example, yesterday I had French toast and maple syrup for breakfast, bacon sandwich for lunch, carbonara and garlic bread for dinner and a protein shake in the evening. Totalling 1300kcal, 112g protein.
Is that me eating more than I need to?

Crikeyalmighty · 17/03/2025 13:18

If you feel stuffed on that much I would genuinely wonder if you had a bit of a gluten intolerance going on - my H struggles with gluten- he isn’t coeliac but can’t tolerate more than a tiny portion of ‘normal’ pasta or one sandwich or a very small pizza as says he feels like hes swallowed a pillow - whereas he can eat big portions if it’s the gluten free alternatives.

TheCountofMountingCrispBags · 17/03/2025 13:19

Yep, for me, that would be stuffing my face, particularly eating when not actually hungry.
But everyone's appetite is different and your friend needs to wind her neck in!

Idontjetwashthefucker · 17/03/2025 13:20

So you ate what you've listed before you met your friend...what time did you meet?

blueskies1331 · 17/03/2025 13:20

Sounds like your friend is the the one with a problem here! Maybe she is sub-consciously projecting about something in her own life?

Dizzybob · 17/03/2025 13:20

I don’t understand the timing? Did you eat all this early in the day and then go to a cafe for coffee and no panini really late or was this the next day?

lily219 · 17/03/2025 13:21

It doesn't sound like a lot to me. I'd think of 'stuffing my face all day' as constantly snacking on biscuits, crisps etc as well as eating meals.

Daffidale · 17/03/2025 12:59

I was going to ask if you were small. I’m really small (a bit smaller than you) and people have NO IDEA how low our baseline calorie burn is. The usual guideline of 2000 calories is far too much for a petite woman. My “maintenance calories” are about 1400-1500. If I want to lose weight I can do it incredibly slowly on 1200 cal per day . I’m talking 1/2lb a month.

so all the people saying “600 calories isn’t a main meal” . Well it is if you are a small woman . A sandwich is often 500 calories. Two slices of toast with beans is actually quite a lot for us! I can see how all that bread and a whole bucket of chicken wings left you feeling quite stuffed.

and then you get accused of “competitive under eating” because actually half a sandwich is a perfectly adequate lunch when you’re tiny like us. But apparently not wanting to eat big portions and saving half a chocolate bar for later is evil and we’re now responsible for everyone else’s dysfunctional relationship with food.

It sounds to me like you are used to eating healthily, small portions and not snacking. So what feels like stuffing your face all day to you is very different to what it’s like for your friend (or most of the people on this thread)

I’d make a note not to talk to friend about food in future. Or if you do explain patiently just how much less food your body needs than hers.

I agree with you that maintenance energy intake can be a lot lower than people realise. It’s great if someone has an appetite and fullness signals that reflect the fact that they don’t actually need anything above that level. Unfortunately it doesn’t always work that way though, so just having a fairly low maintenance requirement doesn’t always mean that you will feel satisfied with that.

Sorry OP I am just curious, what veggies did you have in your toastie?

Toooldtopretend · 17/03/2025 13:24

So basically you met your friend for lunch and then refused to eat lunch because you’d eaten SO MUCH the day before. I’m with your friend, you sound ridiculous.

Woofle · 17/03/2025 13:27

I don’t consider that stuffing your face. To me, stuffing your face would be:

  • Breakfast followed by a whole Easter egg
  • lunch followed by half a tube of Pringles and 10 biscuits
  • snack of cake / more crisps
  • dinner followed by a large dessert
  • evening snack of toast plus donuts etc

stuffing your face suggests extreme obscene amounts of food

ThatJolly · 17/03/2025 13:27

goodovationsonly · 17/03/2025 13:00

Never mind if you were stuffed or not, but what was the rational with having the hot chicken wings with celery?

I fancied something spicy and didn’t want to cook so dh picked me up some chicken wings from coop. And i like something fresh with it. Not for health reasons just I think it enhances the flavour. It’s quite a normal combination in America (I’m not American)

ChippingSoda · 17/03/2025 13:28

I might feel a bit stuffed if ate that but not because of volume - because it’s low fibre and I get quickly constipated if I just eat white carbs and protein. I guess the beans will help it all through. hope you drank plenty of water.

It’s not a lot of food though. If you met your friend the following day and was still going on about “stuffing your face” yesterday so you couldn’t manage lunch, I can def see why she found that annoying. “triggered” is a bit silly.

hazelnutvanillalatte · 17/03/2025 13:28

You definitely have a weird relationship with food. I'm at the lower end of a healthy weight myself so not posting with a lack of perspective. Firstly you didn't eat that much on the first day, and then you skipped a meal to make up for it, and then you made a post about it. All weird and I would be annoyed if I were your friend too.

OfNoOne · 17/03/2025 13:28

@ThatJolly I'd feel stuffed after that too. I've not got a big appetite, and that sounds like loads of carbs which always make me feel full quickly.

BrendaSmall · 17/03/2025 13:30

crouchendtigerr · 17/03/2025 12:20

Is that all your food for a day. That's a lot less than I would eat. I'd eat more veg, more protein and have olive oil dressed salads.
Do you have an eating disorder?

It’s technically 4 meals!
for breakfast or lunch I’d have 2 slices of toast with eggs or beans, so 4 slices of toast, scrambled eggs/beans would be breakfast & lunch for me!

SeaUrchinHat · 17/03/2025 13:31

People with food issues should probably avoid conversations about food!

Spinach, kale, mushrooms and tomatoes.

That sounds so nice!

MumCanIHaveASnackPlease · 17/03/2025 13:35

You’ve obviously got some issues around food that I hope you can get some help with OP.

latetothefisting · 17/03/2025 13:36

Ya both BU (from opposite ends of the scale)
You technically had 4 Meals (plus the pineapple) so not under eating by any means. If you considered beans on toast for break fast, sandwich for lunch and then the two other "meals" combined for dinner i would think thats a pretty typical day for lots of people - as you say quite a lot of stodge but not desperately unhealthy.

However they were all small/Snacky type Meals so I would think you were being a bit ott calling that "Stuffing yourself". I'd consider Stuffing yourself to either be eating continuously (so multiple Snacks on top of those meals) or at least one really big meal like full English breakfast or a roast dinner or whatever.

Most people would still want lunch the day after eating what you did. The fact that you seem to be completely over exaggerating your calories (Google says a normal serving of cheese ravioli is about 300-400 calories so a child's one would be even smaller, not 600) does come out a bit ott.

However ultimately your friend was rude - sometimes people aren't hungry, it's none of her business why, you don't need to justify it to her.
