Obviously I did it just to spite my 15yr old

I broke the shower this morning.
Obiously I did it purely to spite my 15yr old and no one else could possibly be as inconvenienced as her by having to have a bath instead.
What things have you done on purpose purely to make life difficult for your teen (according to your teen)?

A few of my teenage memories:

I was miffed to win a school prize in year 11 (actually the first school prize I had ever won), for "progress". It implied I wasn't doing well before, and I was not happy about having to collect it in front of everybody else, and that valuable time was spent rehearsing this process. Yes, really!

I used to visit my grandmother after school, whom I loved dearly, but I successfully negotiated that she would only kiss me when I was inside, and the door was closed, in case anybody saw me.

When shoe shopping, my brother rejected some smart black school shoes, because they were the same style worn by Mr Bean.

Pensionableperil · 16/03/2025 18:56

My 14 year old insisted on getting his shoes cobbled despite them nearly falling off his feet. He doesn’t like change at all. So off I went and then he threw a giant fit because there was a bit of glue in the wrong place which he could feel. And he gave me a speech which started with “This, in all of my life, is the one thing you had to do for me. The one thing. And you got it wrong.”

I resisted the urge from showing him the bodily results of his existence as the stitching is still red, all these years later.

I move my legs too much. Sing too much. Wee too loud. Sneeze too loud.

That has really tickled me 😂

Stanislas · 16/03/2025 19:03

I mended the torn jeans and ironed them. I still haven’t been forgiven and she’s 50

ghostyslovesheets · 16/03/2025 19:06

Dd2 - I woke up one day to find her face multimeters away from mine - she said (deadpan) ‘for what you have done to me I will kill you’.
my crime - throwing out her Boo pants - she was 8 - the pants aged 2-3 with holes in - she had three pairs she wore in rotation

scalt · 16/03/2025 19:07

His audacity actually made me laugh. He should have taken them to the cobbler himself.

"This is the one thing you had to do for me, and you got it wrong" sounds like a line from a film; the nearest one I can think of is in Driving Lessons, when the teenage-like retired actress (played by Julie Walters) rants "the one time I needed you, and you let me down"

I think most of us with teens, ruin their lives, simply by breathing, so you’re off to a head start actually doing something that’s not your body’s reflexive action.

Im a cow and I’d probably suggest that if tern is so distressed by lack of shower they raid their savings to get it fixed.

🤦‍♀️ That would make sense if the teen had broken it herself but it's incredibly stingy and selfish to expect a teen to pay for something that a parent broke. Parent's responsibility is to fix it although I agree that she'll live with just the bath

Dairymilkisminging · 16/03/2025 19:08

I was making tea and she wanted the kettle. I used up my conditioner and she was very put out she had to use her own. The dish washer was on. I obviously wait until she needs things just to annoy her

All before 5pm today

atmywitsend1989 · 16/03/2025 19:09

Lol 🤣 They're dramatic at that age. My eldest thinks I'm ruining his life and annoying him whenever I speak. I asked him why once and he told me that it's my grating voice. Teenagers are assholes.

Wherewhatnow · 16/03/2025 19:11

DH and I ruined our teen's whole life yesterday by removing her old carpet without her permission. We'd just decorated her room the way she wanted, put up new shelves and built her the new desk she wanted but removing the decades old, manky carpet and putting down a temporary rug was obviously crossing the line.

Pancakeflipper · 16/03/2025 19:14

Eye roll and death glare from 15 yr old because I made apple crumble and not their preferred choice of raspberry pud.

Obviously I baked the apple crumble just to piss them off (not).

SinnerBoy · 16/03/2025 19:16

I've just ruined my daughter's life by explaining that school won't be closed tomorrow. I've just picked her up from a birthday party and her friend's dad said that nothing will be open tomorrow.

Context:
We live in Newcastle and they just beat Liverpool in the Cup Final.

ColourlessGreenIdeasSleepFuriously · 16/03/2025 19:17

Suggested she wore leggings since her favourite trousers were in the wash. Worst of it is she's only 8. Gawd help me when the hormones properly hit 😬

tarheelbaby · 16/03/2025 19:21

Many years ago, there was a sort of reverse thread about what mothers would do in their teens' future homes: it reduced me to tears of laughter. A highlight is: I shall leave my giant shoes on the doormat so that the door cannot be opened. Another is: I shall leave all the coffee and tea mugs under my bed ...

I remember dd (about 14 years ago) was bragging to her mates about a 'cool new band' she'd found on the net

She turned to me,smirked and said 'bet you've never heard of nirvana!they are too cool for you, mum'

Me-'Kurt cobin, met Courtney love, had a baby called Francis bean, was hooked on drugs, sang 'smells like teen spirit' and shot himself in a hotel room?nah, never heard of him sweetheart'

The LOOK I received!

Same dd (around this time) came in,holding the hand of the hairest bloke I've ever met

More metal in his face than I ever thought possible and covered in tats

I'm the embarrassing one for not batting an eyelid and offering him a cup of tea!

He didn’t shoot himself in a hotel room. Was a room above his garage

I also as a teen was embarrassed by my dad when we went to the local chippy and he put said bags of chips into a red shopping bag. In my mind it was an old ladies’ bag. I was terrified someone might see me from school.

How I wish I could go to the chippy with him now ☹️

💐. I know exactly how you feel. I want to go back and kick myself in the head for all the times I was 🙄 at being out in public with my dad and just finding his existence mortifying.
I would give everything I own to be anywhere with him now.

To be fair, I've not forgiven my mum for repairing my jeans either. 😂 she added a patch over a small knee tear and rendered them unwearable.

She's still stropping about shouting about how I don't understand the impact a bath will have on her whole life.

A few years ago now, but I took my then 16 year old to Asda to buy snacks that she wanted and at the checkout I whipped out Tesco branded bags to pack the things in. She was so mortified that I didn’t have bags that matched the supermarket we were in that she stormed out and hid from public view until I’d paid and made my way back to the car

Mylobsterteapot · 16/03/2025 19:46

I ruin the lives of many teenagers by insisting they tie up long hair and wear safety goggles before using fire and chemicals.

I’m a Science teacher. I’m sorry for trying to keep you safe and stop your long hair catching fire!

Utterly with you. Although at the time I was half-convinced that late at night my parents secretly sat down together and MADE PLANS about how they might embarrass me in public. My mother probably bought that dark blue anorak for herself for this very end.

lambsandlion · 16/03/2025 19:51

I simply exist

Cojones · 16/03/2025 19:52

It doesn’t stop.
DS 22 is cross because I turned off The Greatest Showman because I happen to dislike the film so switched over to Antiques Roadshow (I know I am seriously bad).
Worse I had just finished binge watching a new tv detective show while he was on his phone watching stuff. However he is cross that I couldn’t allow him to watch the last 15 minutes of TGS.
I will be working away from home this week and said he can watch it tomorrow if he wants to. He said he won’t because he doesn’t actively want to watch it, it was just on and he could listen to it without headphones on.

There are many instances where he has suffered from his parents poor taste. I do regularly have YouTube content inflicted on me that he and his brother enjoy but is completely over my head because I am sooo old and out of touch.

Yes,dp has just told me this
I honestly thought it was in a hotel room for some reason
I either heard the news wrong at the time,or have picked up the wrong info at some point

Everyday is a school day
