Absolutely mortified but was I unreasonable?

I took my just gone five year old bowling earlier. There are also arcade games, dodgems, a soft play etc.

There is a ride which is two big carousel style horses with reins that ‘gallop’ on the spot. There is a sign saying no under fives so DN was excited he was finally old enough to go on. I lifted him onto one horse and I sat on the other. Halfway through, a young man came over and told me to get off because the ride is for kids. I did, although he watched me undo the belt and get off as if I was a criminal.

WIBU to go on?

I’m dying to know what the deleted post said that OP replied to and everyone thinks is gold.

Odds on OP won’t be back to this thread.

Why wouldn’t I come back?

I am not really sure what your AIBU is?

It was fine to get on if you didn't realise it was kids only, then you got off when you were told you weren't allowed on it.

Am I missing something?

I state what I’m asking quite clearly in the OP.

It makes no sense though, there is no AIBU in that. You got on, he said you weren't allowed on, you got off. Did it specifically say no adults allowed?

Was I being unreasonable to get on in the first place?

It’s good you think it’s so obvious that I wasn’t unreasonable, but it clearly makes sense.

Its just such a non event, if there was no sign how would you know. What i mean is that I dont understand what the worry is about it? Did he scream at you, throw you out?

Yes, he screamed at me and threatened to call the police. I’ve just been waiting to drip feed it.

I dont understand why you are being so strange about it. You haven't really answered peoples questions and then answered sarcastically. Surely you must have been told not to do something before that you didn't realise wasn't allowed. Sorry for trying to understand what is going on here 🤷‍♀️

I’m sorry you’re so confused about the sequence of events. I don’t know how to explain them any more clearly than they are in the OP.

But you’re not confused, you’re just trying to have a little passive aggressive dig about how this is such a non-issue that you simply cannot get your head around it. Just say what you think, don’t pretend to be confused.

You’ve literally said “it was definitely meant for kids” so yeah you’re unreasonable for going on. It wasn’t designed to accommodate adults so he asked you to get off. You don’t have to be a criminal to do something wrong.

What a weird post.

Well, I mean, what mechanical rides are designed for adults? They’re all for kids. But plenty of adults go on the shuggy boats, helter skelters and carousels with their children.

The soft play is designed for children, but adults go on it with the children.

Omg why have people gone off on one about this! I would also be mortified but would’ve been on the horse too!

justanotherimperfectmum2025 · 16/03/2025 19:42

I’ve been on rides for kids, but then my DD was 2-3 yo at the time and didn’t feel safe letting her on a ride by herself. They never asked me to get off, that makes THEM unreasonable. That being said, if the DC is 5, therefore old enough to go on the ride unattended based off risk assessments/safety standards, unless they are small for their age, have developmental delays, or learning difficulties, I would have just approached the ride attendants and just explained that DC has only just turned 5, and you are just a bit concerned they may not hold on etc, either asked if it was ok to go on the ride with them, or asked them if they could keep a closer eye on DC. 🤷‍♀️

independentfriend · 16/03/2025 19:51

I think they needed clearer signs / weight limits posted. It's not unusual for grown ups to want to join in with the kids and if that's not safe it should be made clear in advance to avoid situations like yours happening.

Blades2 · 16/03/2025 21:32

😎 Have enjoyed your responses, Kinut - and understand that it's disturbing to be told off for doing something (not really) wrong like you're a kid - and that it's hard to easily forget and put it behind you. I don't think you shouldn't have got on, it was unfortunate that you came to the attention of an irritating jobsworth that spoiled your fun. Also could tell us what the deleted post said? Ta.

BlaBlaBla87436780087 · 17/03/2025 06:09

My god this is such a non-event! I don’t even think this story would make it to my catchup with my partner about my day 😴

BallerinaRadio · 17/03/2025 06:27

What's with all the snippy replies from OP's lately? For the most part this post has been light-hearted it's the OP that seems to have a problem, there's been a lot like this lately

BadBerlin · 17/03/2025 11:09

Whooooh there!
For those concerned about the wellbeing for the horsey.... IIRC kids rides are designed to take up to 16 stone as it's foreseeable that adults will get on them.

(I used to safety inspect Wacky Warehouses & external playgrounds - but mechanical rides were not in my remit).
