Absolutely mortified but was I unreasonable?

I took my just gone five year old bowling earlier. There are also arcade games, dodgems, a soft play etc.

There is a ride which is two big carousel style horses with reins that ‘gallop’ on the spot. There is a sign saying no under fives so DN was excited he was finally old enough to go on. I lifted him onto one horse and I sat on the other. Halfway through, a young man came over and told me to get off because the ride is for kids. I did, although he watched me undo the belt and get off as if I was a criminal.

WIBU to go on?

You shouldn’t be saddled with all that worry.

marshmallowfinder · 15/03/2025 08:45

mamabluestar · 15/03/2025 08:25

It came across as bitchy, unnecessary and not at all in keeping with the thread - as in my original post made you want to vom.

But it sounds like it was taken out of context and we're both enjoying the fun.

If you want to enlighten me on the typo thawould be great

You typed chucking (being sick) instead of chuckling.😐

EmeraldShamrock000 · 15/03/2025 08:47

No big deal.
I had no choice but to follow DS around the play centres until he was 6, climbing up foam ladders and secretly enjoying the slide.
I have been asked to get out many times, but ATT it was necessary so I refused.

Some people are trying stirrup trouble on this thread.

Sounds dangerous!

FallOfTheHouseOfUtterlyButterly · 15/03/2025 08:49

If they are worried then they need a sign saying "no adults" along with the "no under 5s"
Lots of those little "drop a pound in the slot" rides are designed for children but you can bet plenty of adults go "ye I'm going to have a go"
And the way OP described it at first I thought it was one of the jockey simulators which definitely aren't just for children.

Did he definitely work there or was he just an arse?

Better just saddle up for a mixed response though OP

Cucy · 15/03/2025 08:53

If they are made for kids, then YABU to use it - obviously.

If they are made for everyone or there was nothing to imply that they were just for kids, then it was a simple mistake and nothing to feel embarrassed about.

He told you to get off and you did, so no harm done.

TheAlertFinch · 15/03/2025 09:01

One of my favourite photos of my late mum is her and her friend as adults sitting on a couple of horsey rides outside a shop at the seaside. After the photo was taken the owner came out and yelled at them to get off. We often laughed about it.

Glitchymn1 · 15/03/2025 09:04

🙈🤣 Love it! Hope you enjoyed lol.

napody · 15/03/2025 09:08

I'd tell you YABU but you'd bridle at the suggestion.

Also love that you had the seat belt on.

Laugh it off, OP- it's funny!

Nextdoor55 · 15/03/2025 09:17

Nooo I would have said what do you mean I am a kid

SwanOfThoseThings · 15/03/2025 09:19

You're being a bit unreasonable 😄

Feelingtrapped100 · 15/03/2025 09:22

I mean… it said over 5 years old, didn’t specify an upper age limit 🤷🏼‍♀️

Dontlletmedownbruce · 15/03/2025 09:25

How are posts getting deleted on this thread 😂. I can't see how it could possibly be offensive or controversial.

crossstitchingnana · 15/03/2025 09:39

Neigh need for the long face.

Cakebird · 15/03/2025 09:45

Sounds like you had a mare and now you're saddled with the guilt.

Don't worry about it OP. You aren't the first and you won't be the last.

napody · 15/03/2025 09:46

You're being a bit unreasonable 😄

Damn that's subtle- I needed the italics!

LassoOfTruth · 15/03/2025 10:28

I came for the puns - and I wasn’t disappointed 😂
Don’t be embarrassed OP, you made an honest mistake, that’s stall.

Condensedmilkdrinker · 15/03/2025 10:31

You've all given me a good laugh on this thread 🤣

mondaytosunday · 15/03/2025 10:45

Did it say children only? If not I would have suggested a sign. I’ve been on carousel rides as an adult (fantastic one in Central Park with my BF in my 20s stands out) and might have done same as you if it was my child’s first time.

Denimshirt · 15/03/2025 11:12

I’ve been laughing my head off at this thread this morning!

Op I have an adult dc who got stuck in a children’s ride at the bowling alley recently and the security guard had to get them out. I was annoyed with her as she has done it before but I also wanted to laugh as I was imagining the poor man trying to prise her out 🤣

It's not a carousel ride. It's a dinky two horse ride. Totally different

PuppyMonkey · 15/03/2025 11:41

I’m dying to know what the deleted post said that OP replied to and everyone thinks is gold.

Odds on OP won’t be back to this thread.

OldCottageGreenhouse · 15/03/2025 11:52

INeedAnotherName · 15/03/2025 00:04

You/adults are heavier than most children and the mechanisms inside the rides are not that robust. They are probably fed up of having to send them away for repair and losing an income from it.

YWBU. Some things are for children only.

OP never said she switched hers on! She said she sat on it.

Kinut · 15/03/2025 12:29

wandawaves · 15/03/2025 05:54

You're mortified? Really? And still so upset you posted on a forum about it?

Are people really this delicate??

Yes, couldn’t sleep last night for thinking about it.

It’s fine you were on it and you got off, I can’t believe you had the seatbelt on though 😂🙈

Safety first, as I tell DN.
