Hi I've had a lodger for 2 months now and have caught him coming out of my bedroom his excuse was to check on my cat.my cats not well and he sleeps in my bedroom.my point is this is not the first time he been in my room and I have told him before it's my room please don't go in my room you don't have permission. The other day I came back from work and caught him coming out of my room again I was fuming and told him 1 more time and your out I have installed a camera today and I'm not telling him.if he did it again can I evict him same day or do I hsve to give him 28 days notice.i don't think he's all there. There was a time I was getting undressed and he poked his head around the door because he wasn't sure if I was in or not but my room is my privacy and he seems to forget what I told him

Legally, he has no rights and you do not need to give notice, so you've done nothing wrong by telling him to be out the next morning. Glad you had your nephew to be there with you.

You MUST change the locks, he might have cut a spare.

I was pronouncing the K in my head.

Me too! I vote we keep it!!

Bleeky · 14/03/2025 21:19

Change your locks
and in my opinion
if you have lodgers
you should lock your bedroom and protect your things while you are out.

carrotsandtomatoes · 14/03/2025 20:44

Aww. I was kind of enjoying it 😂

Same.

ZebedeeDougalFlorence · 14/03/2025 21:22

Your knephew is a hero.

Mia184 · 14/03/2025 21:23

I would make sure that the lodger doesn‘t come near the cat until he leaves.

Ohnobackagain · 14/03/2025 21:24

@rockchic65 lodger lost any chance of notice by going in your room and heaven knows what else! Thank goodness for your nephew, I would not be able to spend another night with just lodger. Yuck. Creepy as hell!

Purplecatshopaholic · 13/03/2025 12:02

Yuck, you need to get rid asap op, this guy is not forgetful, he’s a creep.

This OP. It's not at all ok and very creepy.

NiftyKoala · 14/03/2025 21:27

I am so glad your nephew is staying. Let the lodger think he will stay there permanently. I'm also glad your cat is on the mend!

He didn't take it well as he got bit angry saying I should give him months notice. As for him going into my room without permission there is no reason for him to go in there anyway he's definitely going tomoro my locks have been changed by my knephew and ĥe got the keys back for me

Well, it was either 18 hours' notice or a similar length of time in the Police Station explaining himself and his voyeuristic attempts to them - and then still being out at 10am tomorrow.

He's getting a better deal this way.

MrsTheodoreLogan · 14/03/2025 21:35

Vote Knephew 😂

Footle · 14/03/2025 21:35

You definitely don’t have to give him knotice

knephew · 14/03/2025 21:39

Is this real? A strange man is randomly entering your room and you’ve not kicked him out? I don’t think you should take another lodger in…..

Trifecta · 14/03/2025 21:41

It’s nephew, not knephew.

knephew · 14/03/2025 21:43

@Trifecta I can have any username I want

MrsSunshine2b · 14/03/2025 21:45

Nephew doesn't have a silent "k" in it.

ACRoI · 14/03/2025 21:59

Seriously what is wrong with some of you??? She’s posted for advice on what was potentially a very dangerous situation in her own home and some of you have just taken it as an opportunity to rip the piss for a spelling mistake! FFS grow up!

SpideyVerse · 14/03/2025 22:05

I don't want to frighten you, but I feel I need to say this...

  • Place doorstop wedge under your bedroom door from the inside, tonight. (or chunk of wood, or at the very least some things that would clatter/chink noisily & wake you if door was opened when you're asleep.)
  • Check you're room (and bathroom) 'forensically with a fine tooth comb' not forgetting light-fittings, pictures, showerhead, extractor-fans, vents, bins, low+high corners, his toiletries, etc. Devices can be seriously miniscule or hide in plain sight as something seemingly ordinary. AND they might still be able to be accessed remotely even after he's vacated or even be live-streaming! Horrible but true :-(
Better to err on the side of caution.

You did the right thing, both in having your nephew around, and in telling lodger he has to go asap. Given the circumstances you're being more than fair.
As he is lodging in the home you live in yourself, law is on your side as far as zero notice necessary - you have the right to request he leaves immediately, so you can call the police to remove him if he resists in the morning.

Good luck to you, and good riddance to him. - Phew!
