Thongs are HOrrible!!!

I bought a lingerie set, and didn't realise I picked up the bloody brazilian style knickers.
So I wore them today, and It was TORTURE.
I went to IKEA with my mum and she couldn't get enough of the place, I wanted to scream all afternoon.
How can some people do it?

Most comfortable. Am now early 60s and have only ever worn things since my 20s. Hate big pants!

TheChosenTwo · 11/03/2025 22:33

Haven’t worn one since I was about 19, now prefer something to cover my arse cheeks, I tend to get a chilly bum at the best of times!
Plus it minimises the wobble, don’t want to be feeling self conscious about a wobbly AND chilly backside 😂
so they’re not for me personally thanks but there is a choice for everyone so presumably some people prefer them.
Someone once said to me though, imagine how a thong smells at the end of a warm day and now it’s all I think about whenever I hear a thong being talked about!!

aliceinawonderland · 11/03/2025 23:39

Yes I just think they seem dirtier and smellier. Any perspiration just gets soaked up by the thongy bit

Tried them in my 20s when if was impossible to find a nice lingerie set without thong pants, because it was the Thing to “avoid VPL” (eg. made up to sell to women that it was super sexy and god forbid anyone see the line of a normal pant and so on).

But OMFG no. Uncomfortable, unhygienic and just plain nasty. You would never convince the average man to wear something so horrible — thin plastic polyester or nylon “fabric” stuck up in his arse cheeks rubbing faecal bacteria all over the place on sensitive skin. Yet somehow we women all got convinced [i.e. marketed to] that this was the dernier cri in underwear for us.

They don’t even look sexy, just grim! Whenever I see one, all I can think of is all that faecal bacteria working its way down the fabric to my vagina, ready to give me a nasty case of thrush. It’s a no from me!

I also don't wear thongs now I'm older, but just wondering how you would have feacal matter there? Unless you don't clean yourself properly after you go toilet?

Do you genuinely think no faecal bacteria are left after you’ve wiped? 😆

You know bacteria are microscopic and form colonies and biofilms on your body? You never get rid of them completely after a wipe with loo paper (or even a wash).

BlondiePortz · 12/03/2025 01:21

All I think about is dental floss, I don't know what looks comfortable about them in the shops let alone thinking it is a good idea to wear them?

People are really surprised at this?

StarlightLady · 12/03/2025 07:30

I think it boils down to the fact we are all different shapes and different styles of knickers suit different women. Thin gossamer fabrics suit me best, l don’t like anything thick or overly bulky which tend to bunch up nor like sewn in leg hole elastic.

Generally Brazilian knickers are my go to, but l do have quite a few thongs as well. As pointed out up thread, there is quite a difference between the 2. I swap to a high leg style during heavy periods, getting worse as l get older (40 something!). M&S do thong style period pants but l wouldn’t trust those.

As for the reference to patriarchy up thread, some lesbians wear thongs too and they are certainly not doing it for the male gaze.

Finally on a warm summer’s day, l like nothing better than a long sundress with nothing at all, but don’t tell anyone will you? 🫢 ☀️

I remember wearing white pants under white trousers when I was younger and getting shouted at by some young guys that I was supposed to be wearing a thong! It did make me paranoid for a bit and I did wear them. didn't find them uncomfortable (maybe sometimes the lacy ones), but then I found the silky no-vpl almost full coverage ones and I've never gone back.

Not because I care what anyone thinks of my vpl these days, but they are so blinking comfortable and actually make me feel sexier because of how smooth they are to touch, rather than having my bum out.

Interesting. I do wonder if any young guy is harassed in the street by a group of women about his non sexy choice of underwear.

EmmaEmEmz · 12/03/2025 07:41

I'm the opposite. I'm 40 and find anything but thongs really really uncomfortable!

Myblueclematis · 12/03/2025 07:42

I was at the supermarket yesterday and a young woman was bending over the trolley in very light blue leggings that were almost see through and you could see how far the thong had gone into her quite large backside.

I felt a bit sick to be honest, it looked dreadful. 😱

EmmaEmEmz · 12/03/2025 07:45

To add, I'm also fat...like size 24 fat. Still wear thongs.

Laughing at the not hygienic. I learned to wipe my bum properly as a child so no issues here.

Why be so horrible about a random woman you don’t know? We’re all just trying our best!

I’m not a fan of thongs for myself as I find them uncomfortable and I categorise them with high heels and other things that I felt pressure to wear as a young woman even though they were painful/less comfy. Interesting to hear that some women find them more comfortable than big pants though!

Joystir59 · 12/03/2025 07:56

I'm in my sixties and have given in and started wearing full briefs.

Yeah I'm clean I don't just use toilet paper.

Middleagedstriker · 12/03/2025 08:25

Why do men get to wear comfy underwear and women expected to wear string.

I haven't since a teen. Life is too short.

merrymelodies · 12/03/2025 08:26

Don't they get a bit.. uh... brown? 🤢

Pressure from whom? I have not felt pressure to wear material up my crack no matter what age

Well you certainly had a good long look at it to make sure you didn't like it!

I doubt when she got dressed she was thinking about you, people are generally dealing with the day they're in and everyone's will be different. If you can't imagine the various scenarios she might have left at home which led her not to do a stretch test with her leggings knickers combo, use your imagination and think a bit harder.

Brown? If you've regularly got faeces in your bum crack that gets transferred to your knickers, of any cut or design, you need to deal with your hygiene, not your knicker drawer.

Surely you know if your leggings are transparent when putting them on?

Brown? You need to learn to clean yourself properly if you've got poo on your skin.

From society. From the media. From men. From other women.
There's no way these women woke up individually thought "I know I really fancy wearing a bit of string up my arse." I mean why? Even if it doesn't bother someone it's not as comfortable or practical as big knickers.
At my school in the 80s and 90s having VPL was social suicide. People made jokes about big pants all the time. Look at Bridget Jones Diary or Friends. The 1000s of images of "sexy" women in underwear we are exposed to in our lives do not have them in granny pants.

I don't wear them and only did as a teen but as an adult I ignore most convention.

Redpeach · 12/03/2025 08:41

Funny how kids and men don't feel the need to wear them

I know what you mean in the sense that in this country most people don't wash their bottoms after a 💩 just wipe so you're not clean in that area and then you have a bit of fabric rubbing up in your crack 🤢
