Can’t tell anyone in real life

I’m actually shaking a bit writing this because I’m so scared of the comments to come but I need to tell someone because I can’t tell anyone in real life.
for the last 10 years I’ve been addicted to opioids, taking uncountable amounts every day & spending upto £1k a month on tablets from the black market.
im FINALLY clean; did it all by myself by weaning off slowly and im so proud of myself. None of my friends and family know and from the outside looking in I don’t think you would have guessed.
I just feel so amazing, I have so much more energy, I’m not in as much pain anymore and life just feels more colourful as cliche as that sounds. I’m just so proud of myself that I beat this horrible addiction that’s had such a hold on me for a decade. I’m so scared I’ll relapse but I’m determined. Thanks for reading if you got this far!!

Well done, that's an amazing achievement. I'm on oxycontin and oxynorm both prescribed for chronic pain, I'm about 15 years taking them, I've managed to keep my dose steady and on good days I can reduce it but I often wonder how I'd be without them. I know I'd be in pain but I don't know if they are effecting me otherwise. I know I'm addicted, who wouldn't be after so long and they gave me a quality of life I was drastically missing but I still wonder if I'd be better off not taking them. Wish I knew someone who was in my position and had stopped them so I could get advice. Again, well done to you, what you've managed is absolutely stunning.

That is amazing
Well done you. Wishing you the best for your future. Stick with it, you can do it x

Kally64 · 13/03/2025 11:40

Wow, you deserve to be so proud of yourself. Screen shot the messages that have meant the most and, as you said, when you’re having a low moment reread them.
Centreparcs will be fantastic because it will mean more than just a holiday, it’s a new chapter.
With the money you’re saving could you treat your self to a bracelet or something similar to remind yourself daily of what an amazing person you are x

You've come a long way we'll done. If you do have any hiccups along the way don't panic, it's a normal part of the process for many just don't beat yourself up and get back to it.

I'm very proud of you!

If anyone could post anything negative on this post? You've done brilliantly but please get some support? I've learned through my own addiction to booze that it's not all plain sailing xxx

SpiritOfEcstasy · 13/03/2025 17:16

Congratulations OP! Getting clean is hard. Would you consider joining a twelve step program for support? This may already have been suggested but there’s a whole lot of comments so I’m not sure. I will hopefully celebrate twenty years clean and sober in June … and I couldn’t have done it without the program. It truly gets behind addiction and the cause, rather than just the drug and the need for willpower.

Amazing, Amazing, Amazing

Pinkrinse · 13/03/2025 19:27

LucyLLou79 · 15/03/2025 18:29

Well done, you should be proud of what you have achieved. It's great you have reached out to share your accomplishments and acknowledge your fear of the road ahead to stay clean. Just like this group speaking to your GP/healthcare team will come with no judgement and you will be treated in confidence. I would encourage you to have a chat with them to make sure you have all the support around you to continue your success x

Astrak · 15/03/2025 18:47

You Are Amazing! Well done. Back in the day, I was the manager of a drug and alcohol detox and rehabilitation unit in central London. We had a revolving door of clients who we would detox under medical supervision and give individual and group counselling. We then referred them to a longer-term residential rehabilitation unit. Very few managed to stay off without long-term support and too many died. A couple were murdered by paedophiles.
Take one day at a time, and all the support that you can get. You will get there.

Grandame · 15/03/2025 18:48

You are a superwoman and have my utmost respect. Please don’t forget you can reach out to us all if you ever need extra support at any time.

moonbug9 · 15/03/2025 20:58

That is amazing!!! I’m so happy for you and excited for everything you have to look forward to. What an astounding show of courage, determination and love for yourself and for your family. As others have said, remember that you always have support available if you need it. Congratulations ❤
