Can’t tell anyone in real life

Catchmeifyoucam · 11/03/2025 07:32

I’m actually shaking a bit writing this because I’m so scared of the comments to come but I need to tell someone because I can’t tell anyone in real life.
for the last 10 years I’ve been addicted to opioids, taking uncountable amounts every day & spending upto £1k a month on tablets from the black market.
im FINALLY clean; did it all by myself by weaning off slowly and im so proud of myself. None of my friends and family know and from the outside looking in I don’t think you would have guessed.
I just feel so amazing, I have so much more energy, I’m not in as much pain anymore and life just feels more colourful as cliche as that sounds. I’m just so proud of myself that I beat this horrible addiction that’s had such a hold on me for a decade. I’m so scared I’ll relapse but I’m determined. Thanks for reading if you got this far!!

Well done @Catchmeifyoucam

You need to be really careful and strong as the weeks go by. It can take months to really get over an addiction like this.

If you feel tempted just ask yourself do you want to fall off the wagon and undo all the progress you have made, and go through all the withdrawal all over again.

The longer you manage the more you have invested and the more you have to lose.

Keep on going and do not give in. 🌷

inamarina · 11/03/2025 12:56

Sounds wonderful OP, very well done!

DarkChocolateTeapot · 11/03/2025 12:57

Hugest, hugest congratulations, and what a wonderful post to read. I'm sure there will be others on here who needed to hear that was possible.

Richiewoo · 11/03/2025 12:59

Well done that's a huge achievement. Join a group for support and get a sponsor.

That's amazing OP !!! Very well done 👏🏻. I've been on them for 15 years prescribed and would love to come off them but feel I use them like a bit of a crutch to survive a very stressful lifestyle ( profoundly disabled life limited daughter )
If you dont mind sharing , how much and what were you on and how did you manage to taper off?
You've done amazing 🤩

So I was taking 2-4 dihydracodeine every 4 hours, aswell as additional co-codomal, tramadol and morphine ontop. Also cyclizine which gives a buzz when taken with codeine. I went down to 8 tablets a day for a week, then 6 tablets a day for a week, then 4 and so on!

Thank you everyone so much for all of your kind messages. I did not expect them at all and you’ll never know how much they meant to me! I’m going to speak to my GP as you’re right, I need support going forwards and am also going to look into NA tonight when my small humans are all asleep.
im just determined to be the best mum I can and never slip back into that horrible cycle.
plus with all the spare money we are just gonna have the best life! Lots of day trips and ice creams this summer :)

I’m so pleased for you to have beaten the addiction and happy that you feel so much better for it. You’ve done amazingly well to give it up, especially to do so without support.

rebeccachoc · 11/03/2025 16:54

I am so so flipping proud of you!! I can't believe how strong you must have been to go through that all by yourself. If you can do that, you can do anything!! Big Internet stranger hugs!

Burntt · 11/03/2025 16:58

That's amazing. Honestly well done!!

Justsayit123 · 11/03/2025 17:27

Good for you. Remember this feeling if you ever get tempted. Well done.

Ahsheeit · 11/03/2025 18:07

Don't ever underestimate what a huge and amazing thing that you've done, and without support! I wish you a long and happy life, and great things for you and your family.

NA may well be a good source of support for you. You'll also hear things that will give you a jolt and reality check of what your life could have been heading towards. Well done, hugely.

Hoogieflip · 11/03/2025 18:14

Wow. WELL DONE!! That's amazing news. 🎉🎉🎉

TrtseHkpr · 11/03/2025 18:19

Well done OP, I became addicted to prescription opiates after surgery and getting off them was hellish. Very proud of you 😀

ChorizoDog · 11/03/2025 18:37

@Catchmeifyoucam I’m trying to give up something (not as serious as yours) and I’m struggling. I make excuses to myself, etc. will just be once, yadda yadda..

You are such an inspiration.

And if you have a bad day, just remember that you making this post may have helped someone else to stop something too. That's an amazing thing.

Amazing you've done so well to kick the habit. You should be really proud of yourself. Obviously it is your life but perhaps you should confide in someone you trust so they can help you stay clean in the long run. Good luck with everything and once again brilliant effort. 👏💐

JMSA · 11/03/2025 19:23

You are fab-u-lous!! Star

gruffalosoldierdreadlockpasta · 11/03/2025 19:56

@Catchmeifyoucam thank you for your honesty . I've managed to get down to two paracetamol and two tramadol in the mornings , couple of diazepam when things are getting too much ( not daily ) and oramorph ( two 100mls bottles per month ) and this is a lot less than I used to be on, but I can't decide if I'm still on too much . It's extraordinary that you've been able get off them completely. I hope I can

BeCyanSloth · 11/03/2025 20:04

Well done Op you should be proud of yourself
I don’t know you but I am so proud of you
enjoy your holiday with your children

cloudbusting123 · 11/03/2025 20:22
