Can’t tell anyone in real life

I’m actually shaking a bit writing this because I’m so scared of the comments to come but I need to tell someone because I can’t tell anyone in real life.
for the last 10 years I’ve been addicted to opioids, taking uncountable amounts every day & spending upto £1k a month on tablets from the black market.
im FINALLY clean; did it all by myself by weaning off slowly and im so proud of myself. None of my friends and family know and from the outside looking in I don’t think you would have guessed.
I just feel so amazing, I have so much more energy, I’m not in as much pain anymore and life just feels more colourful as cliche as that sounds. I’m just so proud of myself that I beat this horrible addiction that’s had such a hold on me for a decade. I’m so scared I’ll relapse but I’m determined. Thanks for reading if you got this far!!

Purplebunnie · 11/03/2025 11:25

Huge congratulations to you OP hugs x

SillySeal · 11/03/2025 11:26

Congratulations!!!! Well done! You should be so, so proud of yourself. That can't have been easy at all and would have taken a huge amount of strength.

I hope you have the support you need to stay clean and enjoy centre parcs ♥️

gruffalosoldierdreadlockpasta · 11/03/2025 11:27

That's amazing OP !!! Very well done 👏🏻. I've been on them for 15 years prescribed and would love to come off them but feel I use them like a bit of a crutch to survive a very stressful lifestyle ( profoundly disabled life limited daughter )
If you dont mind sharing , how much and what were you on and how did you manage to taper off?
You've done amazing 🤩

BobbyBiscuits · 11/03/2025 11:31

That's fantastic. You've managed to climb that steep hill and break the cycle. Well done!
Keep busy, treat yourself to something nice each day, think of all the money you're saving, and how healthy and full of energy you feel.
You are brilliant, keep moving forward! X

minnienono · 11/03/2025 11:34

Well done op!!! Be incredibly proud of yourself, both for recognising your addition and overcoming it.

Hidden addiction is a huge problem today, outwardly people seem "normal" but they have a problem with substance abuse, gambling or whatever, you are not alone.

MargoLivebetter · 11/03/2025 11:41

That is such an amazing achievement @Catchmeifyoucam . Massive congratulations to you. You should be incredibly proud of yourself.

@Catchmeifyoucam

Your post this morning has literally made my week.

Having watched close family member going through this ordeal I've seen first hand how absolutely horrific it is emotionally and mentally.

You must really really congratulate yourself op because you've just given yourself your life back

An absolute massive huge huge well done from me Grin

SmugglersHaunt · 11/03/2025 12:26

What an amazing achievement - not only to come off them but to keep it all secret. Enjoy the feeling you have knowing you did all this on your own. You must be very strong
