I will eat a whole packet of biscuits, is that normal? Food nosie

ByNimbleOrca · 07/03/2025 21:50

If there are sweets or something in the fridge I really like, I will eat them all in one sitting.

Packs of six pack crisps don't last more than two days, I can't stop eating biscuits and even savory food I will pick at it.

Is this normal or does everyone have to control themselves?

Read ultra processed people by Chris van tullieken - when he described pringles and how bad they are, it really put me off eating crisps! And a little off chocolate too so it's a win for aversion therapy for me

SamwiseTheBodyguard · 08/03/2025 15:36

What are you talking about? It makes perfect sense 😐

“I hate to tell you but I don't think the not eating of a whole packet of biscuits indicates orthorexia”

Your post makes no sense as at no point have I suggested “not eating a whole packet of biscuits indicates orthorexia”

I have, however, spoken multiple times about the orthorexic language and attitudes on this thread.

shall I (again) list the orthorexic language on this thread I have referred to throughout?

I have a greater desire to maintain my figure than I have to satisfy any taste.

That is not normal at all.
Quite disgusting

Is ‘food noise’ the modern, trying-to-be-more-socially-acceptable phrase for insatiable greed?

And that’s just page 1.

Redpeach · 08/03/2025 15:47

Funnywonder · 08/03/2025 14:17

Well, I don't think people should frown upon it. It's a form of compulsive behaviour. It needs to be helped, not ridiculed.

People make jokes about it, which normalises it

Redpeach · 08/03/2025 15:49

AquaPeer · 08/03/2025 14:26

It is, google any stats- life expectancy then vs now, heart disease then vs now…. How could you think we are less healthy than people in the 50s?!

Because there is an obesity epidemic now

Comtesse · 08/03/2025 15:50

Have a look at Slimpod OP - it doesn’t have to be like this.

SabreIsMyFave · 08/03/2025 15:52

hiitsmeimtheproblem · 07/03/2025 22:42

I once ate 48 packets of crisps in 3 days 🤷🏽‍♀️

Why? Confused

AquaPeer · 08/03/2025 16:02

Redpeach · 08/03/2025 15:49

And do you think obesity kills more people than increased heart disease / stroke rates? It doesn’t. Honestly it’s just there in the stats. Heart disease despite being a top reason for death in the uk is so much lower than it was. Less smoking, less fried food. Healthier lifestyles.

There is no point just saying “obesity”. It might be the most important thing for you now but that doesn’t make it relatively important compared to 70 years ago.

it’s like saying there is more cancer now. Yes because we all live longer healthier lives and you’ve got to die of something in the end

arcticpandas · 08/03/2025 16:07

Binge eating or overeating is an eating disorder just like boulimia or anorexia. It's DISORDERED eating. You eat although you're not hungry.

I was only referring to the part where that particular poster said "not eating a whole pack of biscuits indicates orthorexia"

That's a perfectly valid comment for that poster to have said, so I'm not sure what you found so confusing. You may not AGREE with it but it was a relatively simple statement that was made.

I don't necessarily disagree with other parts of your post, as someone who has suffered with binge eating in the past and understands all too well how all absorbing food noise can be and struggles with it every day, it's actually quite upsetting to hear people post about food noise being the "new excuse for greed" or what not. My food issues stem from so much more than greed, it's not nice to see it so easily dismissed as something that pure willpower alone can just change.

SabreIsMyFave · 08/03/2025 15:52

Why? Confused

Because they were there, I imagine.

If I bought a 48 bag box of crisps, intending one a day for packed lunches, the first stressful day they’d be hoovered up. Basically I’d want them from the moment I bought them. On reasonable day I use the much mentioned self control to ignore them and continue to eat healthily. A night of interrupted sleep, getting a cold or an injury, a difficult phone call from my mother, and that attention going into self control is used up on other things, and I eat the crisps.

It’s not a choice. Choice is the effort I use at all times to not eat them. As soon as I concentrate on anything else, they are toast.

Edited

so your responses to my posts were pointless?

i have no idea who or why the "not eating a whole pack of biscuits indicates orthorexia" comment was made -that was pointless too

so basically a load of rubbish with no actual point to any of it. Thanks for the contribution

ASGIRC · 08/03/2025 16:48

Ill definitely eat a whole packed of biscuits in one go. So I dont get them.
Or I get ones that have individual packages with a couple of biscuits, as I can definitely stop eating if Ive finished a "packet".

Oh get off your high horse, people are allowed to comment on a thread, we don't need your permission you know.

Or, do you not understand how Mumsnet work? You seem a bit confused today

You’ve posted 3 insulting posts accusing me of saying something I haven’t said.

I don’t know if you’ve misunderstood or are just being an arse for the sake of it, but it still makes no sense and you’re not even acknowledging I DIDN’T SAY IT despite the fact you can read back the quotes to see I didnt

VimesandhisCardboardBoots · 08/03/2025 14:25

I did up until recently. I'm diabetic now. It's amazing how quickly food noise just goes away when the alternative is dying early.

Same here. Being diagnosed T2 was a massive wake up call that started in motion some really big life changes. A few years later, diabetes reversed and I've lost half my body weight.

No, you told another poster that her perfectly valid post made no sense. I merely pointed out that it did make sense.

The only one who has been an arse on this thread is you, maybe read back all of your posts on this thread if you still can't see that

Are you taking the piss? Her post made no sense because I DIDNT SAY IT

you're just being antagonistic

Genuine question, did the salt not make you ill??

No. Though Pringles make your mouth sore.

I have genuinely never stopped eating because I had had enough. I have eaten raw veg until my tummy hurts, but I still feel hungry.

I’m in a good place at the moment. I’m using my Fitbit to log, weighing once a week, and managing fairly well. But if something kicks off, it’s anyone’s guess whether I’ll manage to stay focused.

Nice one! I'm 20lbs down and blood sugar back in the prediabetic range after my last test. Just hoping I can stick to the changes I've made.

Since I stopped drinking, I crave sugary stuff a lot more. DH has nicknamed me “ The Biscuit Hoover”! I couldn’t eat a whole packet in one sitting but sometimes get through 7 or 8, especially custard creams! So moreish!

I'll not tell you about the chocolate coated custard creams from M & S. Expensive, but a nice treat the odd time 😁

Phoebeandthebeans · 09/03/2025 09:21

I’m a size 8 BMI 18.5 I’m not really bothered about food. I try and have a healthy diet but do have treats in which I eat occasionally. I’ve always been skeptical about food noise until I was prescribed anytriptyline for nerve pain. I couldn’t stop obsessing about food and I was uncontrollable around biscuits and chocolate. I put on several pounds in a few weeks and my clothes didn’t fit so I stopped taking meds and have gone back to my normal take it or leave it attitude to food. The experience has taught me and humbled me. I have great sympathy for people who have food noise and urges and I’m definitely not judgmental now I’ve experienced it. It made me thouroghly miserable thinking about food all the time

Phoebeandthebeans · 09/03/2025 09:22

I don’t think we can label people greedy. Walk a mile in their shoes before you start judging
