To suspect the "deal" between the US and Russia Greenland for Ukraine?

1000 replies

FancyRedRobin · 05/03/2025 09:02

The way things are shaping up I'm beginning to think the USAs negotiations with Putin were for USA to stand aside and let Putin have part of Ukraine and for Russia to support the US to take Greenland.

Well you certainly don’t need to be writing in the style of an academic assignment. People want opinions and passion and discussion. If they want a fully referenced article they’ll go and seek that out themselves. They don’t want to read a regurgitated mish mash of a copy and pasted article with a bit of AI thrown in.

ok fair points, but it does seem counter productive to trying to give people different view points if its just passion and emotion, to convince them etc ?

LovingHare · 08/03/2025 15:18

But you’re doing neither!

well, i was trying to in my own fumbled way

If this is the standard of writing and debate they teach in American universities, then I'm understanding more why Tump got the votes.

I don't even have A levels, and have never been taught to debate, but pretty damn sure my compression is at a higher level than the drivel being posted here.

But if you have good knowledge then that comes across in your post without having to resort to copying and pasting stuff and using AI.

you wouldn’t copy and paste stuff or use AI in an academic assignment because it doesn’t demonstrate understanding. You have to put it in your own words.

i am not going to be convinced by anyone’s argument on a forum if I don’t think they understand what they’re saying.

Rainingalldayonmyhead · 08/03/2025 15:28

Huh? Umm you know that Russia can’t just agree to give away Greenland when it isn’t their country to give? And the US can’t ‘give’ Russia Ukraine? Seriously I don’t understand your post.

I think you are catastrophising.

first i agree but in a sense if i read it and ai reads it, we both reword or resummarise it then how are either right or wrong ? and to a certain extent i need to understand the article to make sure its partly correct ?

Exactly this. I suppose it is quite easy for Americans to sit back calmly in their little Trump bubble. I don't think they would find themselves quite as composed if they were part of Europe.

Or up here in Canada. I’m worried at what might happen to Canada, particularly those of us in French Canada (which Trump hates) but mainly I’m incredibly angry at the arrogance of Trump and the ignorance of those who voted for him.

and that's what im busy skim reading over each news article etc thank goodness for uni training on essays etc

You’ve outed yourself with your choice of words here. You’re not an English speaker from Oak Lawn. The way you’re misspelling words doesn’t fit, especially when you’re saying you’re using Grammarly. You used a particular word here that American student don’t use. You’re probably Russian trying to sound like an American, which explains why your long passages are spelled ok(because you copied and pasted them from somewhere else), even if they are spouting drivel, but when you use your own words in a smaller sentences, it’s a giveaway.

It’s the weekend. Maybe spend some time reflecting on if this is really how you you want to spend your limited time on this earth, copying and pasting into Mumsnet.

It doesn’t rest with economy means - it rests with those who live there. If Mexico decided it was going to take back Texas or Canada was going to take Maine and Washington state, I’m sure the Americans would be in uproar.

i other than protesting what power can the people have if its agreed by the various govts on both sides

Then there would be a world war - Canada has the protection of NATO (and the rest of the world now). America, in trying would then be as bad as Russia trying to take Ukrainian territory - but yes - America is as bad as Russian. Not much to choose between Putin and Trump.

But how do you know the AI is correct? It scrapes stuff off the internet. It will only regurgitate what others have written. You’d like to think it will find a balance of opposing views but there is no guarantee.

I’ve certainly found stuff via AI which is not correct.

Canada and Greenland governments have already said they are not for sale.

It is horrendous, and there is lots of love for Canada from here in the UK. America are an embarrassment since Trump, with so many narcissistical tendencies. I wouldn't enter the country if they paid me. I know a lot of people are saying they'll never visit there while Trump is in power. He doesn't get to take other countries as his own!

Hate to say it but I agree. If anyone had asked me a few weeks ago if I thought Mumsnet would be infiltrated by Russians posing as genuine posters trying to change opinions I’d have laughed. But it really seems this way.

but just because they say that whos to say the intelligence services get intel they can use during negoations so what starts as publicy not for sale soon apears to be that oh now we are open for business etc ?

A legit way to redraw borders, you mean like the way he renamed the Gulf of Mexico?

Greenland, Canada, Panama, they all said no to Trump annexing them, how will he achieve it without force?

Because there would be no other way. Are Americans going to give up their citizenship to join Canada? No - then why should Canadians join the US when we already have a better quality of life and amazing country.

because half of history shows, its not always what the public want but its achieved any way via different govts etc over time.

Let me be clear: debate is not a game of parroting a single source or clinging to one perspective. It’s a battlefield of ideas, and I come armed with the best tools at my disposal.

Yes, I use multiple sources co-pilot, Wikipedia, news outlets, and even Grammarly to refine my delivery. Why? Because the world moves fast, and information is a torrent, not a trickle. To debate effectively, I must sift through the noise, extract the signal, and recombine it into something coherent, compelling, and uniquely mine.

Now, let’s address the accusation of 'copying and pasting.' If by that you mean I gather insights from a variety of sources, analyze them, and synthesize my debate points then guilty as charged.

But tell me, would you prefer I limit myself to one or two articles, regurgitating their contents without question? That’s not debate; that’s intellectual laziness. A proper debate demands breadth and depth, and that requires research lots of it.

As for the occasional spelling error, let’s not pretend perfection is the hallmark of authenticity. When I use Grammarly, it’s to ensure clarity, not to mask incompetence. And when I don’t? Well, that’s just the human touch, isn’t it? A reminder that even the sharpest minds can stumble over a keystroke.
So, let’s not get distracted by the tools I use or the methods I employ. Focus instead on the substance of my arguments. Because at the end of the day, it’s not about how I build my case it’s about whether it stands up to scrutiny.

Now let me ask the critics: can you do better?

Would you spend your time using different tools and resources scouring countless sources, dissecting viewpoints, and crafting different debate points on the fly?

Or would you rather skim an article or two and claim victory without scratching the surface?

The reality is, crafting a debate worthy of attention requires effort researching broadly, synthesizing , and presenting and using different tools and sources to achieve this. Overall It’s about delivering debate points.

Fair enough. So could you please answer the questions I asked this morning about some points that you brought up.

To recap:

How can you say the US is increasing defense spending when Sec Def had recently announced there will be 5 consecutive years of 8% cuts? How can you talk about America improving global alliances at present? The only alliance being built is with Russia. Trump is decimating the traditional alliances with the UK, EU and NATO countries.

How can you talk about improved health care when RFK is refusing to recommend vaccines for the measles outbreaks ( including 2 deaths now)? R&D when the government is cancelling grants left and right?

I accept the theoretical possibility that what’s good for Americans could differ from what’s good for the world, but the tariffs are tanking the st
