To suspect the "deal" between the US and Russia Greenland for Ukraine?

FancyRedRobin · 05/03/2025 09:02

The way things are shaping up I'm beginning to think the USAs negotiations with Putin were for USA to stand aside and let Putin have part of Ukraine and for Russia to support the US to take Greenland.

Domestically, the U.S. Constitution allows for the admission of new states or territories. However, this process would require Congressional approval and likely face intense political and legal scrutiny. And For any annexation to be legitimate, it would need recognition from other nations and international bodies.

the question is how did trump mean the annexing , is it diplomatically or military ?

I believe he said the USA would get Greenland one way or another. Most people would interpret that as either by Greenland wanting to be a part of the USA or by being forced/invaded.

if he didn’t mean that then he needs to be clearer. He’s a diplomatic nightmare. Or a raving dictator in the making. It’s hard to tell which.

And yet how did it go with boris and brexit ?

Classic. "LOOK over here SQUIRRELS". Address the point I made.

Trump is a chaotic liar, according to you. Address that.

DuncinToffee · 07/03/2025 14:21

How do you interpret it?

that he will use the intelligence services to get leverage, then publicly an official deal will be achieved

Blackmail?

Like what he is doing to Ukraine with the help of Putin

or a good strategist, overall whos to say what his advisors tell him to say, vs what strategies trump himself uses etc, plus the old game of eg someone could say truthfully they were not at x location at 9:00 if someone asked, but then they dont say its because they were there at 8:59 etc so it all depends on the words they mean how they intend those words to be used etc

In a world where most people don't speak English as a foreign language and don't have a culture like America (especially the new Fake News approach) it's pretty clear that a president or leader has to be careful and clear in their communication.

We're not listening to the mad ramblings, exaggerations, lies, and obfuscations that has become the norm in American media. Therefore a president who announces that he wants to get country "one way or another" has in our view signalled an intention to take it by force.
You might not take his statements literally but we have no choice not to. He is behaving outside western norms.

which i can agree , but then some would say thats the fault of people assuming rather than what trump actually does

MrsTerryPratchett · 07/03/2025 14:33

I never thought I'd missed the olden days when the US propped up dictators, funded proxy wars by murdering, torturing child kidnappers, trained and armed anti-democratic forces and misappropriated funds while PRETENDING to want democracy and freedom for others.

Not even pretending any more.

and yet the uk has been an angel ?

DuncinToffee · 07/03/2025 14:34

From the NYT

Trump told Trudeau that he wants to redraw the border between the US and Canada because he doesn’t consider the treaty that established it valid.

i apricate the article but all of that can be achieved diplomatically with out the military etc

Diplomatically whilst claiming he doesn't consider the treaty valid?

Do you also believe he won the 2020 election?

FancyRedRobin · 07/03/2025 14:39

Why @LovingHare should Canada be forced to give their territory to America? Even diplomatically.

Jesus Christ the mental gymnastics that Trump followers need to perform just to believe that he's doing the right thing.

It would bother me if I was being led by a leader who was doing all this and whose words could not be trusted.
You are being led by madman and your country will suffer.

I hate to break the news, but Johnson was voted out of his leadership tole by his own party, for being incompetent. We still managed to hold elections on time, he is no longer an MP and we now have someone competent in charge who is repairing relationships with Europe.
I think if he had been talking about invading France, taking over Ireland or betraying our allies he would have been out on his ear a lot sooner.

because strictly it was once part of the usa when Britain ruled it so the uk did originally have control of it all

Just because Trump feels he’s entitled to something, it doesn’t mean it’s ever going to happen. No Canadian is going to give up their freedom and rights to join the US.

excatly, he can say he wants to achieve it but then thats upto the other govts etc to come to a deal or not etc

Canadians don't get democracy then? Is that where you are? Most Canadians live on the border. Are they becoming Americans, or are they just getting thrown out? Because if they become Americans, that's immediately 30 million votes for anything else.

And if you can find a single post of mine supporting Boris or annexation or the Empire FFS, feel feel to keep making the points about the UK. But I think you'll find I'm not a colonialist when it applies to any country.

Seeing the state of the US, no Canadian is going to want to be a part of it. Patriotism is at an all time high in Canada.

FancyRedRobin · 07/03/2025 14:51

@LovingHare what deal?
There's no deal on the table.
I think Trump might still think he's a real estate investor not an actual president dealing with sovereign nations.

If I come to your house and I say I want your car, and you say no, it's not for sale, that doesn't mean I can then say "fine I'm going to throw bricks in your windows until you sell it to me for a price I want to pay". That's not doing a deal, just theft and extortion.
