I tried.

I really did.

But JFC it's absolutely awful.

"Come and watch me make the most basic of crafts while telling me how much you admire me, and I gently patronise you"

Really awful.

It's pure cringe

I also don't mind MM. so was interested to watch it.

GhostOrchid · 08/03/2025 18:12

The vibe between Meghan and her two girlfriends (salt baked fish) reminded me of the vibe between the three blondes on the new series of White Lotus.

CalicoPusscat · 08/03/2025 17:54

I didn't realise there was salt-baked fish (I watched 3 snippets). That sounds good, also the pasta salad. It's the sort of thing which is nice to eat but you forget to make.

💯💯

So true! The sheer dedication some people have to combing through every detail of her life just to loudly declare how much they don’t care about her is honestly fascinating. The irony is, they’re the ones keeping her name trending! And I have to admit—while I do like Meghan, I wouldn’t call myself a super fan. But if I ever need the most up to date Meghan news, I know exactly where to go - to the pages where they just can't stand her 😂. Honestly, no one follows her every move more closely than her biggest critics. They’re basically running a Meghan Markle fan club—just, you know, angrily 😆.

Awww and Happy National Women's day 🤣🤣

Other members of the RF have tried business ventures that ended being less successful and lucrative than Meghan's(think Sarah Ferguson etc).

Again I am not negating that being related to the
R F and the whole drama around that have literally boosted her profile and marketability.

However, recent history show us that being Royal-adiacent or even engaging in Royal drama does not necessarily translate in million- dollar contracts.

Again, given that the lady was always a savvy hustler(these are positive traits to me, I know the horror...), had a successful series, blog, nice connections prior to all this shebang - there is definitely something there in terms of being business savvy, knowing how to make money and partaking in successful projects.

With regards to Kate, I don't have enough data about her work history prior to joining the RF, so I wouldn't be able to tell whether or not she would have been successful outside of the Royal system.

I believe Catherine would have been very successful if she’d have wanted to break away. I think she would have had a lot of interest from high end luxury brands and been a global ambassador for many fashion and jewellery houses. I don’t think for a minute she would have had to ‘hustle’ for anything. Anyway, it’s all academic, she’s never going to do that.

What is wrong with being business savvy, "hustling" and making your way through life though?

Yeah as you have said it is all very theoretical, who knows?

I think the show was at number 4 or 5 in the UK( so did really well even here).

There is definitely a cultural difference between Brits and Americans(although we are all individuals). Another think that I loved about the show is Meghan's love of life and optimism? It is difficult to explain, but in the face of what she has been through, is really remarkable that she still has this optimism and vibrancy about her.

They were unable to bit out these things out of her despite trying . Remarkable. The same can be said about her guests/ friends with regards to having a vibrancy about them.

I think it’s dropped to 8 now. I am watching it but it’s more of a wade than a watch. I’m on Ep 3 now, ff’d most of Ep 2. I’m about 5 mins in (that was a few hours ago but will probably watch a bit in bed. I’m not hate watching it but I didn't watch any of their documentary from a couple of year’s ago so thought I can’t critique if I don’t watch. I don’t hate it but I don’t love it either. Honestly I wish she would just do to the show and they leave out all the fawning, syrupy gushing, I’m just not the gushy type.

I have literally no comprehension of why someone would spend over an hour making cereal balls for their kid's when there's 1000s of other choices that take minutes and are healthier... or hand washing everything in hand made soap when things like washing machines exist... It's fucking insane.

Edited

I agree.

I have to be honest I would hate to be hosted by someone who hand makes bath salts for me, leaves a midnight snack etc, I would feel under pressure to appear grateful the next morning ‘oh yes I loved eating the popcorn as I lay in a bath of lavender…’ I mean what if you didn’t feel like a bath or weren’t hungry? At 1am after staying up talking over wine I want to go to bed, not run a bath and have a mini pamper session. You’d have to use them though as it would be rude not to. It all feels really performative and ‘praise me’.

Meghan is a very attractive woman with a certain confidence and I think had she not thrown herself at 100mph into badly planned business ideas, and instead gone off for a few years to research her field and develop the brand, she could’ve come up with something pretty special. But I think the damage has been done now, people eye roll when she announces her next project and the interest is more as a spectator than a serious client. She’s flaky and can’t seem to stick with it until it launches.

Well exactly. Again a cultural thing. In the US they celebrate self starters.

I'm not convinced that Kate would be a great success in this way. It's precisely because Meghan had previous experience in the wider world that she was able to pull this off imo. Sarah Ferguson shows us it's not easy.

BustingBaoBun · 08/03/2025 18:54

I love love love anything 'homemade'.

One year when my DD was a bit strapped for cash, she made the most delicious Xmas presents. Homemade biscotti, bacon jam, parmesan biscuits, and the most delicious granola.

I wish she'd do it again!

So I love anything like this

  1. Signing contracts worth millions( some have suggested that we are talking about a 100- million contract, is it true? Who knows) is not what I would define as a business disaster( no matter how much you try to manifest it, this is not just true).

  2. No , no damage was done

  3. Meghan did take chunks of time out of the spotlight to regroup ( hence the numerous articles/threads asking where is Meghan)

  4. No, being multifaceted, running multiple projects, and why not making mistakes and starting again is not being " flakey", it just how life/ the business world goes

  5. A person being labeled as attention seeking because she takes pride in hosting... We are literally living in the twilight zone!

Do people who leave these comments not realise how they come across?

So you are telling me that you would be pissed at a friend/ family member who prepares a nice bath for you and goes above and beyond to make you feel comfortable in his/ her home. This is bizarre.

Do people really dislike a stranger that much that they have to literally disassociate from reality in order to find any made- up, nonsensical excuse to criticise her ?

I am still partaking in this thread not only because I enjoyed the show, but because I can't literally take my eyes off these bizarre threads and comments 🤯

I do.

Hope that helps?

Also telling me I lost you on the final and most irrelevant sentence of my point isn't the hurtful "Oh no!" You think it is

Don’t really care what your reaction is, but ‘off you pop’ is a stupid expression.

I do wonder why she didn’t just do all this right at the start of their time in America. Going down the whiny brattish route lost her so many initial fans/supporters and well wishers. This is what she should have been doing and this is how she should have presented herself, an affable Californian girl. I’ve always felt doing Oprah was a terrible move, doing that Cut magazine with the awful mean girl cover, doing the documentary with all that driving around in weird paranoia (I haven’t watched it but seen snippets where they're going on about some (non existent?) guy on a scooter), whereas now I’ve seen a bit of a trailer (don’t know what episode) where she’s driving around her neighbourhood, no paranoia in sight. So in my opinion she should have gone down the sunny california vibe from the beginning.

Ilovecleaning · 08/03/2025 19:17

GhostOrchid · 08/03/2025 17:17

Not a Meghan fan but we’ve watched about 5 episodes.

It’s kind of fluffy and relaxing, while often being unintentionally hilarious, and a bit cack-handed.

I LOL’d at the picnic and “cooling” lavender towels she and her Argentinian polo mate were pretending to enjoy on a windy, sunless day while wrapped in blankets.

She has lovely handwriting, I’ll give her that, but seems to lack manual dexterity for someone apparently into cooking and crafting. I cringe every time she handles a knife. Lots of the makes seem impractical and long winded (two days for ciabatta?!) requiring special kits (lolly sticks with holes in the middle?). And there’s a lot of waste. All that salt for the salt-baked fish.

Her visit to the flower market. “I see what colours I’m drawn to.” Is it the beige ones, Meghan? That whole burlap and Kilner jars aesthetic feels like it’s been around for ever now.

I thought the best one I’d seen was the one with Korean chef. Knowledgable, talented and interesting guest and I want to try his watermelon kimchee, please.

Tbh I envy and admire her calligraphy. It’s amazing.

I haven't watched much of it but seen snippets, I think actually what annoyed me in advance is the article I read in people where she referenced being a working mom and doing the show for her daughter . Maybe it just me but she and the snippets I saw are the furthest things from my life where I skid down the stairs in the morning with my hair half brushed . I can't relate at all to her collecting her home made honey and berries to make a wholesome breakfast before facing the day.
I suppose in a nutshell it just doesn't feel at all authentic to me at least
L

BackoffSusan · 08/03/2025 20:06

There's 20 minutes of my life I'll never get back. It was mind numbing drudgery. I'd rather walk barefoot to Dignitas with chopsticks in my eyeballs than watch another episode. She lost me at the emptying pretzels into a new bag and tying a bow on it. The whole thing is completely self indulgent. There is zero humility. Nothing remarkable, or interesting or funny. I don't know who the audience is supposed to be. I can't imagine anyone can relate to her life. Although this was so inauthentic - the show kitchen, the friendships didn't seem sincere. This was a show about how Megan wanted to present herself to the world - wholesome, beautiful and perfect.

As a mum, I mainly couldn't get over how she managed to cook in a pale, balloon sleeve shirt. That was probably the most impressive thing she did. Also not convinced her children like to eat spaghetti with tomatos, spinach and flowers.

AlternativeView · 08/03/2025 20:12

I watched half of it up to the fish I'm really enjoying it..

The very first episode she seems very slightly odd with her guest but I enjoyed it.
It's light and was perfect background as I did chores today watching a little and carrying on. Nothing too deep and she was much more entertaining than the people on our TV at the moment eg Saturday morning kitchen and more Mary berry.

I like her and I cannot fathom the deep hatred of her.

AlternativeView · 08/03/2025 20:16

@BackoffSusan.
The humility comment intrigues me, how and why would and should she show humility?

What humility does any life style person show? Martha Stewart, James Martin, Mary Berry etc?
Kirstie alsop...

skullbabe · 08/03/2025 20:25

Ah yes, the great pretzel scandal of 2025. She was making a welcome basket - as in, a curated, thoughtful collection of things for a guest. You saw the massive bag of pretzels she had - should she have just chucked that in the basket and called it a day? Or perhaps you’d have preferred she built a pretzel making factory from scratch? Or better yet, maybe she should have just sat there in silence and not shared something she actually enjoys? The horror.

And as for the children can’t possibly eat that take—listen, my children ate broccoli, spinach, kale, olives, and tomatoes as toddlers. One doesn’t eat eggs, one doesn’t eat cheese, and neither of them like pizza. Children do their own thing. Their taste buds aren’t bound by whatever you think is realistic.

BustingBaoBun · 08/03/2025 20:26

This was a show about how Megan wanted to present herself to the world - wholesome, beautiful and perfect.

Good for her

Isn't that the same as everyone presenting a show?
I could list them all, right back to Fanny Craddock 😂
They all do it, why should she be different?!
Hope it works for her

I think the ' would Kate be as successful point is a moot one' The circumstances would be totally different. The reason Meghan is getting so much traction over here is because of the whole ' leaving the Royal Family and wrenching poor Harry away from his role as 3rd wheel' business. Most people watching seem to be hate watching or indulging in their Meghan obsession and part of that depends on Harry and Meghan being the 'baddies' and Kate and William being the sainted saviours of the Monarchy. Without them, it's just another fantasy lifestyle show. If Kate divorced William, I think it's naive to think she wouldn't get the same treatment from the press and the Royals. If William wanted to marry someone else she would suddenly be painted as an awful person, unhinged, etc, not fitting in with Royal traditions, etc, because the Royal Family is the most important thing and William needs to be popular. Diana was painted the same way until she died, and even now.

BackoffSusan · 08/03/2025 20:38

No it's not @BustingBaoBun watch matt tebbutt presenting Saturday Kitchen - humour, personality, taking an interest in his guests. How about Rick Stein presenting a cooking show - passion for food, sharing some useful knowledge about the meal - background about the origins of the cuisine etc or location.
Perhaps this is an American TV vs UK tv thing because I found the Kardasians dull as dishwater. I think I only lasted 30 mins of that. Maybe if you like watching paint dry, then this kind of stuff is palatable.
