I tried.

I really did.

But JFC it's absolutely awful.

"Come and watch me make the most basic of crafts while telling me how much you admire me, and I gently patronise you"

Really awful.

I think some of you have never watched lifestyle programmes. This is what they are. A blend of eye wateringly simple tips and living the "simple" life, crossed with aspirational luxury. None of this is new. And some people love these type of programmes.

And all this talk about not being "authentic", "relatable", expecting people to film in their actual house/kitchen(I mean it is a show, are sets not meant to be used when filming a show now?😥).
This is not a reality show. Such bizarre observations.

I have to say that I don’t dislike her though. If anything, it comes across more like someone who is so bored and without purpose that these little things are the only things they have to do with themselves.

I felt a bit sorry that she doesn’t just seem to have some local mums from nursery or school to hang out with. The little “mum tips” like “make sandwiches in the shape of flowers with cookie cutters”, or “put fruit on a plate in a rainbow shape with yoghurt clouds” would work for a show that was a bit more lively, informal and practical and focused on doing wholesome down-home family things. That would actually be quite endearing and worth watching. But the rest of the show wants to be Ina-meets-Goop in California - all big flower displays, minimalist fashion and grown-up cocktail brunches. And that’s a bit boring tbh, it’s been done too many times.

I mean commenting on the show is one thing, but how would you possibly know that she doesn't have any mum friend in Montecito?😥

Is this the kind of projection that people do on this website thread after thread?

With endless projects, a lovely family and a lovely community ( coming from her own words when interviewed by People Magazine) I would not necessarily define Meghan as someone that has no purpose in life.

It is weird how most of you have created this sort of caricature in your head(aided by the likes of the DM and co).

This is certainly a phenomenon that needs to be studied!

Lestelle · 06/03/2025 22:46

Getting distressed over a random internet poster calling a random celeb "a turd" is also bizarre.

LBFseBrom · 07/03/2025 00:21

Jacob Rees-Mogg has done a reality series, that really is a giggle.

It's not distress it is just expressing disgust at a totally uncalled for, not to say vulgar, remark about someone who has done nothing wrong.

I think the York women are known as Beatrice and Eugenie York. Also I have seen Sophie referred to as Sophie Wessex in newspapers.

Princess Beatrice, Mrs Mapelli Mozzi and Princess Eugenie, Mrs Brooksbank actually. And Sophie is the Duchess of Edinburgh now, She’s generally referred to as the Duchess of Edinburgh.

I know Sophie’s ‘real’ name but I’ve seen her referred to as Sophie Wessex in newspapers- That is what I said - Sophie Wessex in newspapers. Not always, but enough times that I remembered it.

Just recently I’ve seen:
The Express
New Idea
Hello

Here’s Sophie Wessex being a ‘secret weapon’ Sophie Wessex . Sophie may not use it herself, but papers and magazines are fine with calling her Sophie Wessex. Hopefully they are just as fine with calling Meghan Sussex. If they aren’t, it is one rule for Sophie, another for Meghan.

Since marrying, Beatrice and Eugenie are formally called their married names - yes. But somewhere I saw it printed that they were Beatrice and Eugenie York at school. Just as Harry was Harry Wales at school and in the army. Same with William Wales. I believe William’s children were known as George Cambridge etc. Now they are George Wales etc. it’s ‘pick a name’ in that family. I kind of like it. (Except for when Andrew does it - he used the name from one of his other titles to sign a contract in a financial business endeavor. )

Sophie Wessex's 'frustration' at having to change after marrying Prince Edward

Sophie Rhys-Jones married into the Royal Family in 1999, and has since become the "Secret Weapon" of The Firm - but there's one aspect of her life that still frustrates her

No one was ‘distressed’. But it was disgusting, and it was designed to dehumanise Meghan to the lowest level anyone could possibly be dehumanised.

How do you know she doesn’t and seeing how people ridicule her, what mother would want to sign up for that for themselves?

Plus, if she actually did that, she would be called fake and you know it.

The only thing that would make some happy here is if Harry divorced her and came running back to the UK which I’m not sure he would want to.

Well... it was on the level of parading Meghan through the streets and throwing shit at her, a la Piers Morgan.
And it should always be called out. Women should not dehumanise another woman.

For accuracy, that was Jeremy Clarkson - wasn't it?

Quite extraordinary the emotions this woman evokes in people. Imagine writing these things about a woman you've never met and - though you may not like her - hasn't done anything particularly wrong.

Lentilweaver · 07/03/2025 09:10

The real show to hate watch is Alec Baldwin's reality show The Baldwins. I could not look away. It's just incredibly cringe 😯 MMs is mildly cringe, I think.

phoenixrosehere · 07/03/2025 09:11

From what I’ve seen on different SMs, more are questioning the vitriol she receives especially from the media here when before the show was even aired they were already bashing it and people were pulling them up on it.

It’s only proving her and Harry were right to leave and the more it continues the more proof to their claims.

Thank you so much, yes it was, they are cut from the same cloth but that should've read Jeremy Clarkson. 😊👍

Yet, no one starts hundreds of threads on them. It's just Meghan and Harry. Yes, of course, there is a connection to the UK but still....

Probably because no one is paying tax for the Baldwins/ heard of them/ idolises them. I personally am not keen on any royals, current, former, inducted, expelled... any of them. It's an anachronism to me.

That said, I don't feel the need to abuse them. Would just prefer if they were all pensioned off.

Edited

I agree with this. I haven’t watched the programme and I am not remotely interested in doing so, but people must be aware that Meghan bashing has become a public sport. I don’t think H and M help themselves always but that’s beside the point; the level of vitriol aimed at them is out of all proportion to what they have done.

BustingBaoBun · 07/03/2025 10:09

Totally agree. They act like a couple of twats at times, and I think 'why on earth did you do this, couldn't you imagine how this would play out?' on some things they do.
But I say this about members of the royal family a lot too and they have the best in the country paid PR people and bucketloads of aides but they get barely any criticism because they have the MeghanShield to protect them from the press. While the media are banging on about Meghan and Harry, they are not talking about members of the royal family.

@BustingBaoBun and anyone else interested in why people feel so strongly about Meghan - I found this 3 year old article that is still pertinent in many ways today. It’s from an Australian paper and the journalist has sought opinions from academics. I just know academics are out there somewhere researching the hysteria surrounding Meghan’s existence and her actions - or perceived actions. (I’m sure I’ll find some of those academics). At any rate, there are a few academic opinions in this article that are very interesting, and it even touches on some of the consequences of the Meghan loathing we see today.

Interesting Article about the Meghan effect and consequences

I just read over what I wrote in this post and it seems a bit muddled I think (I’m getting a headache so not at my clearer-thinking best) But the article is worth a read.

Behind the loathing of the Duchess of Sussex

Ever since Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, and Prince Harry sat down with Oprah Winfrey, the visceral hatred has been difficult to miss. More specifically, the visceral hatred of Meghan.

@Jacquettes That is such an interesting article. It just shows how long Meghan has had to put up with this relentless loathing, she is a punchbag. It doesn't matter what she does, she will be criticised because hating on Meghan is a multi million $ industry, clickbait, books, articles, interviews...

@OrdinaryO888 You might like to read an article I linked on this thread on the 5th at 19.01 hours, it talked of similar as her journey into the hate she endures.

Wishimaywishimight · 07/03/2025 10:47

There's an air of desperation / needing to be liked and admired that is off-putting in anyone, not specifically MM. Like people who are desperate to make friends, being too syrupy sweet, trying too hard, in an attempt to make people like them, it just doesn't work.
