I tried.

I really did.

But JFC it's absolutely awful.

"Come and watch me make the most basic of crafts while telling me how much you admire me, and I gently patronise you"

Really awful.

This is by the by, but why do so many people keep saying that she doesn't have kids?

I believe they have children, it would be absurd for them to be hiring models or something to cover they don't have any. That is too ridiculous to take any notice of. Even as someone who can’t listen to either of them more than a minute they definitely have children.

All of this. YES. If I were Meryl Streep I'd be applauding right now.

What like when she was applauding Roman Polanski…?

Well she tried. But the Barefoot Contessa does it so much better if you are into that kind of thing. Nigella too. It's all a bit passé.

Yeah - as I said in another thread on this, it’s all a bit “fifteen years ago”. And both Nigella and Ina not only can actually cook, but look like they might also actually enjoy eating some food once in a while. Meghan is too uncharismatic and too thin for the show to work on either her personality or her “homemaker” schtick alone; but the “crafts” are also just so basic. It’s hard to believe there’s anyone left in the Anglosphere who needs instructions on how to make a fruit platter.

The moment for this kind of thing was quite some time ago, way before Brexit/Trump/the cost of living, and possibly even before the financial crisis.

Viviennemary · 05/03/2025 17:16

Ina Garten ran her own restaurant for years. What has Meghan done but been a two bit actress and bagged a dim Prince. It's about time she realised without Harry nobody would give her the time of day.

I think there is still a market for it bc so many people have successful gardening and cooking blogs on Instagram with lots of followers; it’s just that Netflix is a strange platform for it.

Also, I doubt whether UK and EU is Meghan’s prime target audience.

I was actually referring to when she shouted YES YES at Patricia Arquette regarding equal pay. No applause no sex offender.

I like MM. I think she's a decent actress and seems to be a decent person.

I find the hate towards her crazy. Some of the people who hate so vehemently I would cross the road to avoid because the level of vitriol is not normal.

That said though I won't watch this as it's not my cup of tea. I might buy her jam though, I like farm shops and shit like that so yeah I'd probably pick up a jar. Just won't watch the show.

I think decent person may be stretching it a bit far. Yes she’s not a heinous criminal but she doesn’t think twice about stabbing people in the back (metaphorically) speaking. She does have quite a blatant spiteful streak. I think she might be one of those people (I’ve worked with enough of them) where if they see you as a peer or useful they're as nice as pie but if they see you as beneath them they can be really unpleasant.

TheKeatingFive · 05/03/2025 18:23

Based on what?

BustingBaoBun · 05/03/2025 19:01

Of course this article will not go down well with anyone determined not to like anything Meghan does but it is an interesting read. Not everyone feels the same about her. Before anyone rubbishes it, yes it is Buzzfeed and no, they don't dislike her like some of the other media mentioned in the article. It's just another view.

p.s. Harry needs to sort his hair out 🤣

If You’re Still Hating On Meghan Markle In 2025, You’re Literally Just Embarrassing Yourself

Imagine hating on Meghan Markle and she’s just sipping rosé and making ladybug crudités in the Montecito sunshine.

Except what you have said is not true. She does have contact with other relatives, including some of the in-law family.

But I am also a child who only had contact with a few people from my extended family because they are mainly serious criminals. My single mum wanted to keep me well away from them, so I have not seen them since I was a baby. And its fine. Not everyone has a loving functional family. For some people distancing from family is looking after their children.

They do not see any family regularly beyond Doria (we assume) and loose, distant contact with a relative is not the same as having fun with cousins and enjoying occasions, and building bonds.

Your mother obviously chose to keep you away for your own safety but clearly William and Kate etc are not criminals, they are loving family members. Ditto most of the family. The children ARE being deprived of such awesome family experiences with all both sides of their families.

Despite their faults, I think the RF love and care for Harry and his family, there has been a huge amount of loss.

BunnyLake · 05/03/2025 20:53

Well this is a bit of a surprise. I had no intention of watching it (I’ve never watched anything they've done) but my son put it on and sat down and said give it a go (I’d sat down to watch Alice in Borderland), so here I am, lol.

I’ve paused it after 25 mins to have a little breather. My criticism is purely personal and not actually aimed at Meghan per se. But I’m bored, I’m really bored and I realise the reason why is because I’m just playing gooseberry between Meghan and her hairdresser, I’m twiddling my thumbs while they chat with each other. It made me realise that the cooking/lifestyle programmes I do like have engagement with the viewer, Nigella, Jamie and one I watched a lot of, Pioneer Woman. Maybe it won’t all be like that as I’ve only watched a bit.

One other thing, her hairdresser is being far too gushy about stuff that’s pretty mundane (spaghetti and tomatoes are hardly groundbreaking).

Anyway that’s my two penneth. It’s not awful but it is dull so far.

Why did she say she was Meghan Sussex, surely she's Meghan Windsor or am I being completely dim. I don't really follow Royals so no idea but the news clip showed her correcting someone for referring to her as Markle? (Fair enough ,she's no longer Markle)

The royal family don’t have surnames, so they would style themselves according to their title. Harry used to be known as Harry Wales, but now he is Harry Sussex. He’s never been Harry Windsor.

They do - they are Mountbatten-Windsors down the male line. They just choose by convention to use their titles as surnames

Jacquettes · 05/03/2025 21:39

I think the York women are known as Beatrice and Eugenie York. Also I have seen Sophie referred to as Sophie Wessex in newspapers. I don’t know if she chose that herself or or papers named her that. Andrew has various surnames - different ones for different contracts in his business ventures as has been pointed out by another poster - apparently all legal.

Portakalkedi · 05/03/2025 22:17

I don't get all the accusations of hate. Surely nobody cares enough about MM and Harry to actually hate them. From what I've seen so far, they are massive hypocrites (and liars) who whinge on - in public, for money - about wanting privacy, while disrespecting the privacy of others. Neither of them seems to be have any talent or integrity. They (or he at least) surely had enough money to live a quiet and private life in a normal sized home, in a more modestly priced area, but their desperation to be 'celebs' makes them subject to the same scrutiny as others who act ridiculously and completely overestimate their appeal and worth. It's just human nature that we laugh at such types rather than fawning over them. God know what kind of idiots will actually buy any of their factory-produced merchandise.

Jacquettes · 05/03/2025 22:30

‘Surely nobody cares enough.’

But you do care enough. Enough to list the things you don’t like about her.

Cookiecrumblepie · 05/03/2025 22:36

I don’t understand the endless hatred towards MM. Her show is fine, it’s a bit of light escapism. I wish people would just leave her alone.

People read opinion pieces in places like the Daily Mail of her next door neighbours sister's cousin twice removed once worked with her and thought she was stuck up and that she smells of poo (or something as utterly ridiculous lol) and that's it, they automatically know what she's like, ooh she's so horrible. Look it says so here, must be true. 🙄😁
It's so pathetic 😁
