It's been panned but a lot of the press already hate her, hence my asking

Is it really that bad? I'm in my 30s and it doesn't seem aimed at my age group from the clips online.

There's one bad clip of her correcting mindy kaling on her name but I'm sure that's just been put out to make her look bad 😭

Worth a watch?

No interest in watching it, but to those who have, is it worth the $100m paycheck? Can't believe how much money Netflix has these days.

BobnLen · 04/03/2025 21:34

I'm not really bothered about her either way but saw a preview and it is absolutely dire.

MyKingdomforaNewUsername · 04/03/2025 21:35

Meghan tells her friend that she was a latchkey kid who ate loads of ready meals (TV dinners) and takeouts. Bet Doria will be thrilled to hear her say that!

I'd love a fly on the wall doc with Kate Middleton. Now there's a woman with a core of steel.

I’m pretty sure a fair chunk of that paid for the ‘Harry and Meghan’ documentary which did do fairly well.

If the Royal Family has any sense, they will be praying this show and the products are profitable. If the only thing H&M have to sell is stories about the RF and they end up needing money, things could get nasty.

Mainoo72 · 04/03/2025 21:36

From an intelligent woman, it’s inane & holds no interest for me. I got 10 minutes in & was bored to tears.

She’s using the show as an advert for her products. The ultimate aim is to be the next Martha Stewart. She can’t really build that sort of business with the type of programmes you are describing without exploiting the people she visits.

This programme isn’t intended to be even vaguely charitable / socially active, it’s intended to bring in the cash so they can do their charitable activities without trying to profit from them.

The thing is that Martha Stewart was an incredibly successful chef, party & event planner etc before she started publishing books and having tv programmes. Meghan does not have this background to build on, The Tig and what she was doing on it isn't comparable at all. There's only one Martha Stewart and she's still alive. No matter how hard Meghan tries, she will not surpass or even be equal to Stewart.

CurlewKate · 04/03/2025 21:37

@nam3c4ang3 "and the seeds for the party bag? What happened to a silly whistle and a maom?! "

I put seeds in party bags 20 years ago! I must have been ahead of my time....

Tishomingo · 04/03/2025 21:39

I’m not really into that type of show but I watched the first one earlier and it was nice enough. I’ll watch the rest.

littlbrowndog · 04/03/2025 21:44

Just watched. It’s dreadfully dull and goes on too long

Sadcafe · 04/03/2025 21:52

I really have no real opinion of her but watching someone arrange some fruit on a board is absolutely not my idea of a good night in front of the tv

Oh, I know. But I’m pretty sure that’s what she’s aiming for anyway. Netflix seem to think she’s got a chance of being profitable since I think they are backing the products, too.

LivelyMintViper · 04/03/2025 21:54

I watched out of curiosity. It was boring and very patronizing. So much of what she says is glaringly obvious. More appropriate for a children's program.

Pii · 04/03/2025 21:59

I watched the first episode. What struck me was how they both looked absolutely terrified! Meghan looked like she’d never gone near a cake before let alone baked one and the relationship between herself and friend didn’t come across as natural.

They seemed to relax more as the program went on and that pasta dish she made looked nice. I’ll probably watch the rest as it’s good escapism but the whole thing just felt forced. I’m not sure if all the bad press has done a number on her confidence….understandable if so.

haremscarem55 · 04/03/2025 22:01

I don't hate her and truly believe a lot of MSM hate stems from systemic racism.

However.. it looks like a fluff piece to rehabilitate her image as a homely wifely type. I'd never watch it but then real lives of or celeb watching aren't my thing either.

MyKingdomforaNewUsername · 04/03/2025 22:03

Oh give over with the racism nonsense.

80smonster · 04/03/2025 22:06

I don’t hate MM, that would suggest I find her more interesting than she will ever be. If you asked ‘do I think Meghan Markle is a grifter’ - yes I do.

What’s wrong with her correcting someone on her name?

I think it was because she said "you keep referring to me as megan markle, but its sussex". Sussex isn't her name; her name would be Megan Windsor, Her title is Duchess of Sussex. I'm not a royalist and even i Know the difference.
I've only watched a few eps, i'm assuming she wants to rebrand as the new Martha Stewart and good for her, but not my kind of thing.

Doodledeedum · 04/03/2025 22:08

I normally like her but the show is a bit .... 'meh' ...?

It's a cooking/talk show nobody has asked for ... some people she knows really well, others have been invited ... I am not sure there is a clear defined reason for the show and for the first time I'm am struggling with her and I can't quite put my finger on why....

I've seen a few people say this and I feel this the closest I can get to my own answer and that is that it's just really removed from my reality and I feel like she's really clawing at looking normal... a few times she makes reference to her home... she's clearly not in her own space so it just doesnt feel as personal as she seems to want to appear.

A couple of years ago, they were saying she might run for president. Now she’s making cakes on the telly. Seems like a comedown

(She’d be better than Trump)

She would be much better than Trump. I am actually starting to think men shouldn’t be allowed in politics. They’re crap at it.

Actually she’s right- just as William was William Wales at school, his kids were George Cambridge etc until the Queen died and then they became George Wales, and so on. They don’t all use Windsor as a surname, only the ones for whom
it’s actually their surname.

i wouldn't worry about it. No one will be talking about it tomorrow 😂

Well someone needs to tell Charles and William because they both use / used their titles as their children’s surnames and William used Wales (before he got the Cambridge title) as his surname when he was in the military.

Edited to say: Beatrice and Eugenie regularly used York as their surname before they were married, too.

Quite. Amazingly, Meghan knows her own name better than some random on the internet.

Blueroses99 · 04/03/2025 22:27

Adding title to first name is not unusual amongst people with titles, even if it isn’t technically a surname. Beatrice York or Sophie Wessex (as was) for example, so Meghan Sussex is fine. But she hasn’t used it in the 7 years that she’s been married and correcting a friend feels a bit contrived so it feel like a rebrand. Her book and podcast were ‘Meghan, Duchess of Sussex’, and I’m sure people pointed out that was in the style of a divorce (she is The Duchess of Sussex) but she continued to use it.
