AIBU to be utterly horrified that the US has cut off military aid to Ukraine?

I was hoping that it was mostly just bluster from Trump. But we've woken up to the news that he has actually done it. He's literally swapped sides in the war and is now standing with the aggressor, Russia, and abandoning the victim, Ukraine.

At least some Americans are speaking out against the decision:

I don't recall the voting slip asking your ethnicity or age - certainly didn't in England, did they in Wales?

Or are you just desperate to believe that of course it must be the fault of the English......as always.......🙄🙄

and blaming just the retirees as well 🤣🤣🤣

BoredZelda · 04/03/2025 15:01

The baffler is why the American electorate didn’t see it.

Price of eggs, innit.

BoredZelda · 04/03/2025 15:02

There must be other floating voters though who were taken in by his bullshit and are regretting their choice now that reality is starting to set in. There must be! Surely! Please tell me they don't all support this arsewipe unquestioningly!!! ☹️

There certainly are. Even some of his base are starting to say "hang on, we didn't ask for this"

Notonthestairs · 04/03/2025 15:03

"And the spin-off benefit for the people of Ukraine is that Putin stops mercilessly killing and terrifying them 24/7."

If that were the case then they wouldn't care what peacekeeping force was in Ukraine.

Ukraine government has approved the minerals deal and was ready to sign it - their comments are in black and white in The Times today.

I dont think Russia wanted to sign the minerals agreement - and Trump was caught on the hop and needed to blame somebody for his deal failing.

This is like a surreal nightmare.

An ignorant, semi-literate, cognitively impaired vindictive convicted felon, rapist and grifter is being manipulated by henchmen to disrupt the entire world order. Ironically, greatly to the detriment of the United States citizens, but also to other innocent parties. Abandoning Ukraine is nothing short of intentional evil.

It's apparent the US congress and courts won't do anything. Can international courts/ the Hague / any other body hold trump to account? Anything going to detrail this apocolyptic train??

This post deserves copying

I am sorry but I have never in my 50 pus years on this earth read so much crap and seen so many hysterical posts as on this thread. its bloody ridiculous.where on earth are you getting your bizarre ideas from?
President Trump is posturing and making a very valid point to the world,us included, cannot you see that?He is taking a stand and a valid one at that that America is not the saviour of the world especially financially. Why do you all expect that country to finance everything? America owes no country anything, and why should the President and citizens of America be subject to such disrespect? Aid has temporarily been suspended. This is to force the hand of the little man running round the world with his hands out in his action man clothes demanding every other country finance his every whim whilst billions of pounds has gone "missing". Nobody, not one single country,us,France, anyone can go into this with alleged peacekeepers or boots on the ground without America no one, you should remember that.No American backing No dice and no one can move and no peace. Whilst our Pm is rallying leaders of nations no one has the money.weapons or troops to move an inch without America. Trump is forcing the hand of Zalensky to negociate. As for being a russian plant well ffs grow up.This war will be stopped round a table not on the battlefield as zalensky would like glorified by dead soldiers on the ground. I would step back, calm down and have a chill about which scenario would play out the best for everyone.

Wow - the hysterical one is you.

First up Europe has spent as much as the US on aid to Ukraine. In the region of $100bn each.

Second Trump insists on stating the US has spent $350bn. BBC fact checking and others have requested a source for this figure but had no response. I suspect it’s the same source as Boris’ brexit £350m per week for Brussels claim.

Third no one is asking the US to unilaterally fund anything.

Fourth, Europe and especially the UK backed the US in Iraq and Afghanistan so yes you owe us. It’s a two way street.

We will never know what outcome diplomacy would have yielded. Mr Z bailed out before any real options presented. We just don’t know what could have been.

As the man said…. Mr Z didn’t have the cards last week, he has less cards now.

He didn't bail. He was attacked verbally and then thrown out the White House.

After the amount of hatred levelled at Trump over the last months I'm not surprised he has decided not to play the game any more
If Trump and co. really wants respect, he needs to start acting an adult with an ounce of emotional intelligence. Acting like the school bully with their accolade has lost its power. Nowadays, these bullies are being challenged and gain no credibility at all.

Witnessing such emotionally immature intelligence from a world leader is utterly baffling.

The US signed the Budapest Memorandum !

Its a historical fact and agreement….

Do you have a reasoned argument.... or do you only throw childish insults?

Sadly debate is a long lost skill in this country. Please grow up.

Sadly there is a complete absence of reasoned argument on this thread from Trump/Putin apologists. If you actually read the post that I was referring to you might also see the ignorance contained in it.
Trump supporters seem to believe that the US are the saviours of the world and generously throw their money at us out of the goodness of their hearts, whilst failing to realise the actual reasons for the proliferation of US military bases throughout Europe.

@Hellohelga America backed us in WW II or have you forgotten that? They owe us absolutely nothing.

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 04/03/2025 15:09

FWIW I don't like the man either and it's worth remembering that it's mainly Russia at fault for invading in the first place, but as you rightly said the sponging hasn't helped and neither has the way some "leaders" convinced themselves it would continue for ever

///

Seriously - how the fuck do some of you see this ending? After an aggressive invasion which if nothing else has so far kept Russia from the door of other nations, do you seeZelensky bending over to the demands of Putin and Trump who will quickly take everything they can get without giving two fucks about the people of Ukraine, do you think Putin will stop? Really?

Because he fucking won't.

We either continue to chip in to Ukraine or we make some tough decisions and Europe come together and tell America to fuck off.

Because if we acquiesce to these maniacs we're all screwed

eventually, after repeatedly refusing. It was Pearl Harbour that changed their minds

And they charged us massively for the privilege. The UK paid the loan off in 2006

Why am I going bust? Your post makes no sense to me.

I think it is in reference to Mr musk acquiring his billions upon billions upon billions of american dollar contracts that he is acquiring while raiding the pennies from lesser mortal American citizens. ( Musky has the sweet ambition of wanting to be the first Trillionaire) Why should an American citizen get medicaid /medicare/ social security or a veteran have a job when a few well fed billionaires can travel in spacex to Mars.

Dont forget there is the added benefit of the mere mortals just falling off this mortal coil in the absence of affordable healthcare...it will save a FORTUNE.

Your American coffers are being raided and given to the south African.

And they fucked us financially for years to come (And took all those clever science type Nazis under their wings too as they were quite useful).

We answered their cries for help after 9/11 so damn right they owe us

Eventually they did, after two years. And we paid them handsomely for it, in fact the loan was only repaid in 2006. The US never give anyone anything out of the goodness of their hearts.
You might like to look up how much we, and the rest of Europe, supported them after 9/11, it’s called international cooperation.

No wonder fat orange Trump hates him!

cardibach · 04/03/2025 12:27

He’s not posturing, he’s acting.

Despite what he’s telling you, Europe has given more to Ukraine than the US.

Zelenskyy wasn’t disrespectful.

No money has gone missing. Debunked misinformation.

Churchill wore military dress during WW2 when he visited, for eg, the White House. Was he a ‘little man…in action man clothes’?

It may be true that American aid makes it more likely to succeed at peacekeeping - but remember there was an agreement with Ukraine when it gave up nuclear weapons. They (and the rest of Europe) are not wrong t9 expect it to be upheld.

Some reputable people have said Trump is too closely tied to Russia and always has been.

The best scenario for everyone is the one where Putin isn’t emboldened and is made to stop his invasion of a sovereign country. It’s even best for the US.

Does that cover all your ‘points’?

This

America ONLY 'backed us in the war' after Japan attacked Pearl Harbor in 1941. We paid back billions of $$$ for their 'backing' as I posted up thread But don't let the facts get in the way of your hyperbole.
