The tide is turning on Trump

  1. CNN now, poll shows majority of Americans disapprove of Trump.
  1. Commentator stated that Trump spoke about his several conversations with Putin and alarm bells ring, because Trump is parroting what Putin says. No independent thoughts?
  1. He comes over as having memory problems. He forgets what he said earlier.
  1. He needs help running press conferences and appears unable to manage without support.

Is he ill?

It's very odd.

Women are going to need to fight for their rights under Trump - along with many other marginalised groups.

The difference is they can.

The difference is they can.

Well in my opinion they always could but here we disagree.

YankTank · 04/03/2025 11:14

AshKeys · 04/03/2025 11:09

You misunderstand. Women know he doesn’t care for them but he does recognise women as a category. The democrats were destroying the whole category of ‘women’, ‘girls’, and ‘female’ and stealing the very language used to describe women. Under Trump women can fight for their rights. Under the democrats they were finding they no longer even had the language to describe themselves let alone be recognised as a category to which any rights could be ascribed.

Rights to not have xy chromosomed people in womens sports ✅
Rights to birth control, dealing with pregnancies that have gone wrong before they get to the sepsis stage, or access to abortions ❌
Rights to paid maternity leave ❌

AshKeys · 04/03/2025 11:18

SallyWD · 04/03/2025 11:13

Well in my opinion they always could but here we disagree.

How when the category they are fighting for no longer exists? How could young girls fight for a single sex changing room when ‘girls’ now includes boys, ‘single sex’ means mixed sex, and saying a boy is not a girl is an offence? What language do you use and what law do you rely on?

Exactly - it always blew my mind that women thought he was their ally. He just hates trans people (and all other minorities). He couldn't give a shit about women.

I fully expect on this trajectory policies to further discourage women from reporting sexual assaults. He's already trying to make it harder to report in schools and campuses, I don't see why he won't spread it wider. Would not surprise me to see them legislating that women surviving abuse should be put on trial for 'lying' if the man isn't found guilty (which doesn't mean that he's innocent either). Pretty sure fire way to ensure men can rape with impunity, because what else would you expect from a sexual predator and his pals?

AshKeys · 04/03/2025 11:20

Roe vs Wade was overturned under the democrats.

Men imprisoned for rape are raping women with impunity in women’s jails thanks to the democrats.

By Whom?

Elliania · 04/03/2025 11:23

If you're looking for examples of Trump voters entering the "find out" period of their "Fuck around and Find Out" experiment in voting the Tangerine Sex Pest back into office then check out the Leopards Ate My Face subreddit. There are dozens of examples of Trump supporters being just so utterly bewildered that his policies are affecting THEM. Like women & veterans realising that they are termed "DEI hires" and losing their federal jobs, first responders from 9/11 losing their health coverages, farmers losing labour to ICE deprtations as well as tarriffs hitting many businesses hard.

cantkeepawayforever · 04/03/2025 11:28

Following the last few posts, I rest my case in terms of Trump giving the right soundbites to ‘single issue voters’, who therefore support him, blind to his much wider faults.

Crikeyalmighty · 04/03/2025 11:28

The thing is it's a somewhat disordered way of thinking to vote on 1 policy you agree with but absolutely disagree with most other things or the general direction of policy. I myself don't 100% disagree with Trumps policy on transgender ideology or even the fact that some 'woke' aspects had gone a bit far - I do however disagree with almost everything else and hence would never have voted for him if I was American because I think he's an agressive narcissist and not that bright , more interested in his ratings and being adored by the MAGA crowd. It's unlikely that most people will 100% agree with a political party on all aspects , my view is you just have to choose one where you align on 'more' aspects of policy.

cantkeepawayforever · 04/03/2025 11:30

@Crikeyalmighty I would agree with you. However, the actions and words of many, many vocal single issue voters would seem to imply that the ‘disordered thinking’ you describe is in fact extremely common.

I can't really get my head around the people going 'Oh well I invite he hates women but at least he believes in two sexes'. This is a massive net loss for women. FWIW I don't believe for a minute that enough women were voting solely on this issue to turn the tide, but trying to paint it as worth it for women seems bonkers.

A tiny number of trans sports women can't compete
A tiny number of abusers will find it harder to abuse while presenting as women, but you really think they'll just leave women alone now?
But all abusers of women - every single one - is feeling empowered.
Women can be forced to have babies
Women have died and will die of entirely treatable pregnancy complications
Women and babies will die in birth and pregnancy because bans force ObGyns to move out of their area and move jobs because they don't want to have watch patients die or risk jail if they don't
It'll be harder for women to divorce and leave abusive marriages (and it'll be made harder if abusive husbands can ensure she has too many kids to leave easily)
Support to women's aid will inevitably be cut for being 'DEI' so they won't have shelters to go to either

BruFord · 04/03/2025 11:48

Echobelly · 03/03/2025 21:01

I honestly find it impossible to predict what will happen here.

We've never had such an experiment in fascism (let's not beat about the bush) in such a massive, wealthy, historically democratic country. In a world with social media and a tame technocracy on which the whole world is now incredibly reliant, all literally backed by the world's richest man.

But also in a country full of entitled people with guns.

So many things could happen:

  • Trump doesn't allow for an election next time around
  • Trump dies or is assassinated before the end of his term
  • The outright Christofascists get in and turn America into Gilead
  • He pisses off enough veterans or military that they actually rise against the government... and a zillion other things....

One thing I do know - whatever happens, this is going to be a disaster that it will take America decades to recover from. There is literally no good outcome I can imagine for this. 99% of Americans will get much poorer, Musk's 'savings' will cost infinitely more than they save through the consequences of losing so much federal infrastructure (for example, next time there's a natural disaster, which is getting much more common, it'll take far longer and therefore cost far more to restore things back to functioning). The tax cuts that go to the super-rich will be money lost to the American economy forever.

Edited

@Echobelly I don’t think that your four points will happen, because I honestly don’t believe that Trump has aspirations to be an unelected dictator.

I do agree that the economy could descend into a complete mess that will take decades to recover from.

Exactly!!
And don't forget that it will be argued that many women got their jobs under the DEI initiative so it will be very easy for employers to sack the women they don't want working for them (e.g. women that might dare to complain about something).

AshKeys · 04/03/2025 11:58

Which trans sports are they?

In other news, the senate has just legislated to allow women’s sports to the relief of millions of women and girls. Democratic senators all voted against women’s sports in favour of making all previously female sports compulsorily mixed sex.

Yeah I realised that I should have added that it'll be much easier to discriminate against women, for a business just not to hire women and so on. Don't be surprised if you hear lots of stuff coming out of men like Musk saying things like 'I only hire the best software engineers but the fact is that they're almost always men so why should I be stopped from hiring the best people?'

AshKeys · 04/03/2025 12:02

They will leave women prisoners alone if rapists and abusers are no longer locked up in cells with them. Or do those women not count?

And do you not think we should be making it harder for abusers to abuse women? How big a number of abused women are required before they count?

As opposed to the democrats who claim to hire women when they are men?

Ah, so you are saying the Democrats were so utterly terrible no one could possibly vote for them and therefore it is the fault of the right that the only alternative was Trump? But somehow it is not the Democrats fault that voters thought they were worse than Trump?

Edited

The Democrats made a lot of mistakes but I don't think they were so utterly terrible that nobody could vote for them, no. They were an infinitely better option than Trump, in my view, hence me holding those who voted for Trump accountable.

What I'm saying is that, those who felt that the Democrats weren't electable could have chosen to put up a different alternative. Instead, they chose the fascists. You can dress that up in whatever way you like, but the decision was on them.

Left wing administrations have been voted out of government countless times without voters having to resort to fascism. The people who put Trump in a position of power need to own this. History will not judge them kindly.
