To think the Republican Party need to wake up and find their spine?

TooBigForMyBoots · 01/03/2025 18:39

The Republican Party are responsible for President Trump. Given that they have a majority in both Houses and on the Supreme Court, they are the only ones who can prevent him further damaging the US and its citizens.

Their fear and appeasement of the bully Trump has only made him stronger, but we are where we are and can only go from here.

AIBU to think Republicans need to find their spine, guts and voice to stop appeasing/placating Trump and do their duty for the American people?

What is Trump's opposition's (Democrats) policies? How do they intend to tackle the issues they perceive, how will they solve the problem without just saying we will do this and we will do that? I never can seem to get a straight answer to those questions. I am also given a word salad answer but mostly a Trump deranged rant.

I would really like to know without any mention AT ALL of Trump. Can the opposition do that? Is it within their capabilities? Issues, policies and solutions?

There is no system of an "opposition" to the president in the USA

@Odin2018 why do Trump supporters always use random block capitals in their sentences ? Following the master’s Truth social Rants I suppose, in the belief a block capital could manage to legitimise absolute twaddle.

That's the date of the article. Later paragraphs talking about 2022 - 2024.

That’s what I said. It reports the current recruitment situation - which is not as you told us earlier. There is no stampede to join the U S armed forces.

OneLemonDog · 05/03/2025 22:40

Interesting to see even several far-right parties, accross Europe, criticising Trump and siding with Ukraine.

He still has the AfD, Orban and Farage of course. The latter's tongue would likely have to be surgically removed from Trump ring peice.

DOGE hasn't found any fraud or corruption so far, Musk was lying. He has now admitted otherwise in an interview with Joe Rogan.

Deportations are down under Trump.

Good try! Pull the other one!

Deflection, deflection, that's all you can do. Trump Derangement Syndrome.

I reallyndont care who you support. Just want to hear some common sense talk from anyone from the Democratic party without mentioning Trump. Is as though they have nothing to say of they don't talk non stop about Trump. What are their policies? How are they going to tackle them?
There is of course an opposition. There are Repulican and the opposition are the Democrats. The Democrats must know what they stand for and speak about it not just non stop twenty-four seven talk about Trump. Do they not understand that that tactic is what put Trump in office? People don't want to hear non stop rants about Trump. They want to know what the Democrats are gping to do for their country and most importantly, how. How. Previously they promised everyone everything with no talk about how they would find the money to do all that as though there was a non stop running pot of money.

If Democrats continue down the same path the Repulicans will get more of the Democrats move over. Policies have to make sense. How they are going to be funded needs to make sense. The American citizens are not a cash cows for the government. People are waking up to this now.

Ranting every hour of every minute of every day had the people voting for Trump. Instead of changing the Democrats repeat the same ranting and raving every hour of every minute every day about Trump. You see the stupidity of this, dont you.

We have friends in the US who are Republican voters but not Trump supporters. They aren’t alone. However, the president has executive power and Trump commanded both the popular vote and an electoral college majority at the election. He did very well among many demographics, probably with the exception of white young women. He’s delivering what he set out election campaign, so Republicans don’t have much of a basis for objection.

There is. Try harder. Also it depends what you mean by 'credible' much of the MSM is severing lacking as 'credible' sources. We saw this during Covid and many instances since.

You have the Democrats who some were last seen screaming at Trump at his recent speech. Who are they? Beings from outer space? No, they were opposition Democrats. Do you need see them or are they invisible to you. You surely can't miss them, they are always screaming, ranting and raving somewhere or another.

Of course Europe wants Trump to put in America's money and to have American security. They are scared if he steps away. Therefore it comes out as hate towards him.
Europe can side with Ukraine all they want - put their money where their mouth is and fund Ukraine if they think Trump America is so bad. Get on with it. They don't like him, don't do business with him or rely on America at all. European countries talk the talk, well get on and fund and supply Ukraine without Trump. Honestly, Trump, Trump Trump so bad. Get on with it without him Europe. Fund Ukraine for the next how many years if this is what your want. Bet Europe won't step up now though, will they? Good at talking but will only put in so much money and not go all out to win the war against Russia. When it's America's money going in well that's ok but if they have to step up and put their fair share in, how many don't do so. But Trump is Bad. Putin is bad. Europe is good. Yeah, right.

Be great if we could get back to the republicans and there lack of spine as the thread title questioned.

There's plenty of raving room on plenty other threads on Mumsnet currently; ranting on about Ukraine and its failure to give Putin/Trump what they want.

Not seen much on anything else here. If you're interested in foreign policy, how about Trumps ideas on Gaza, the Panama Canal, Greenland, Canada?

Maybe that's not within some posters remit though.

What you going on about, get back to it then if you have something to say?

Canada has just folded somewhat to Trump so he is giving them a slight hiatus on some Canadian business not getting a huge tariff - not long agreed.

Panama Canal - Black Rock buy out, maybe good in some ways but not in others.

Greenland - what about Greenland? Of course America is not going to take over. America just wants Denmark, I believe, to step up.

Gaza - too tired to talk about Gaza. Too long.

Well, the AfD and Reform UK are both still siding with Trump. That's interesting, to those of us in Europe, as both of those parties have long histories of being sympathetic to Putin and are pally with the Trump administration.

I think what we might be seeing is which of the far right parties are beholden to Trump & Putin, and which are more concerned with their own country's national interests.

As for Ukraine/Russia, I have little doubt Europe will be forced to step up to Putin, but it's trying to buy itself some time.

Of the shit options currently on the table what I'd like to see is:

  • Zelensky accept the mineral deal;

  • Europe use the pause in conflict to better prepare itself for war (including decoupling from its relationships with US intelligence, given that Gabbard also seems compromised).

  • a strong European response next time Putin advances.

  • if Ukraine can be re-secured, terfing the US presence out of the country without them seeing a cent.

I really don't think there's much to say about the Republican lack of spine. They'll put up with Trump's batshit foreign policy for the sake of domestic wins, and their own financial interests. Even before Trump, they were largely a bought-and-paid for moral abyss.

You are funny,

You really think Europe can better prepare themselves for war? What men in the UK are going to step up if Starmer calls on them? You got to be joking when they have an army of illegal imigrant young men in this country and the same in other European countries. You think they are going to leave their mothers, wife's, sisters and daughters unattended in the UK to go fight for Ukraine?. Don't make me laugh.
You think the people of Europe will be as one. You've got to be kidding me!
Decouple from the US - good luck Europe!
Terfing the US out of Ukraine without them seeing a red cent? You are hilarious!
