To think the Republican Party need to wake up and find their spine?

TooBigForMyBoots · 01/03/2025 18:39

The Republican Party are responsible for President Trump. Given that they have a majority in both Houses and on the Supreme Court, they are the only ones who can prevent him further damaging the US and its citizens.

Their fear and appeasement of the bully Trump has only made him stronger, but we are where we are and can only go from here.

AIBU to think Republicans need to find their spine, guts and voice to stop appeasing/placating Trump and do their duty for the American people?

@Odin2018, this isn't a thread about Ukraine. If that's what you want to discuss there are plenty other threads on Mnet, or you could start your own.

This is a thread about Republicans taking a stand for America. They are responsible for Trump and he's wrecking the country.

Wrecking the country how? Trump has only been in for a few months. All the wrecking has been done with the previous administration.

Thank goodness DOGE is stripping out at least a $trillion of waste, fraud and corruption out of the government to reduce their country's debt. The citizens will eventually see and reap the rewards (but it won't be overnight to those shouting loudly they haven't got it right now!) Why wouldn't American citizens want this? Who in their right mind wouldn't?

Thank goodness he is terfing out the people that came into country ILLEGALLY first targeting those who have committed crimes in America. Which taxpayer wants their taxes paying for ILLEGAL immigrants to be in their country especially those who are criminals? Who in their right mind would?

Thank goodness he is trying to stop the madness of people trying to brainwash others into believing humans can shapeshift from man to woman and vice versa and many more shapeshifting beings in-between. It is not humanly possible. Who in their right mind thinks this is possible?

The list goes on and on.

You don't have to be a Trump supporter to let common sense and intelligence into the room with the grown ups.

CulturalNomad · 05/03/2025 18:46

Getting Putin to leave Ukraine would show what a great peacemaker trump is. Getting zelensky to surrender, not so much

I don't think that Trump or any other leader in the West has the leverage to "make" Putin do anything. At most they can try to offer up enticements like relaxing trade restrictions.

That is just the unpalatable reality, grossly unfair as it is.

tobee · 05/03/2025 18:48

Look this is thread on the republicans in the USA. Why are people derailing it to just focusing on Ukraine? Very suss.

There's plenty of other things going on in the USA that Trump is causing problems to the US and the world.

Or is that not available in your program algorithm?

StandFirm · 05/03/2025 18:49

TooBigForMyBoots · 01/03/2025 20:32

I'm afraid I agree with you @SouthJersey that Trump may break the US itself. But he hasn't yet and surely Republicans and America can rally and, backed up by the Constitution fix this.

He is not a king.

He is not a king, only a jester...

(literally: as a former reality tv star who still cares more about 'great tv' than people or country)

Why do you keep talking about “you”? This is a UK site, ie not in a country fighting a war.

I’ve been wondering that…its weird, almost like that poster thinks mumsnet is a ukrainian forum

Correct.
Zelensky has a choice.
Putin has a choice.

Ukraine wants their whole country back with Putin punished. However, it doesn't look like this will be possible, however much it hurts the Ukrainians. They have to come back down to reality as negotiations means negotiate - not you start by getting everything back you had in the first place and have Putin pay for all the destruction. It doesn't work like that.

Yes, we feel sorry for the people of Ukraine but no one, not Europe, not America, not ANYONE is going to start WW111 with Russia for your beloved country Ukraine.

So, again I say, it's a choice that Zelensky has to make for his people. Fight till the last man standing without enough help from Europe to see you through OR negotiate and be prepared to lose some of what you want/love to save the people and the rest of your country. You won't have it all your own way, regardless that Putin dropped the first bomb. Most people can see this.

Crikeyalmighty · 05/03/2025 19:02

@tobee because if it's not about Ukraine it doesnt interest those posters who've been 'given the agenda ' to post to forums about Ukraine!!

The issues with Trump are about way more than just the Ukraine issue as you rightly say

tobee · 05/03/2025 19:04

Or, or, just maybe, Putin could just fuck off out of the sovereign country of Ukraine, after humiliating himself with his "3 day operation"? That would be the best way to stop the fighting and killing.

The ball should be in his court. It's as simple as that. He started an illegal war. An illegal invasion. Time for him to leave.

That's all there is to it. Framing as Zelensky and Ukraine being the problem is utter bullshit. We all know the truth. Even the Russia apologists do. We see you. Be honest with yourselves for once, you might get to enjoy it.

DOGE hasn't found any fraud or corruption so far, Musk was lying. He has now admitted otherwise in an interview with Joe Rogan.

Deportations are down under Trump.

In a lovely, ideal world, Russia would leave Ukraine with no more fighting and lives lost.

Now back to the real world. Putin aint just gonna leave Ukraine now, is he? Zelensky can keep fighting till the last man standing - it's his choice - no one else's. That's all there is to it. Be honest with yourself, just once, you might just enjoy it!

And in a lovely, ideal world, Putin would respect a peace treaty.

He hasn't in the past though, and it's extremely naive to think he would this time.

It this "peace deal" happens, we'll end up with a much bigger war.

Ukraine can keep fighting then and stop whinging about Putin and Trump. Ukraine can keep on fighting as no one is physically stopping the Ukraine people from fighting. Keep at it if you don't trust Putin and don't want to negotiate. Zelensky does not have to negotiate and can stay in Ukraine and fight to the end, until either the Ukrainians or Russians win. Ukraine has a choice. (but don't expect a never ending supply of money to be coming from your closest allies, Europe)

Ukraine should stop "whinging" about the person invading their country and killing their people?

I feel like we may just have hit peak stupidity.

And why are you whinging about it on here anyway?

Because you are living in LaLa Land if you think that Russia will just walk out of Ukraine or Ukraine will defeat Russia without Europe putting up at least triple the money they are putting in now (which they won't and they are your closest allies as you seem to think). We can all dream, but dreaming is not reality. Pride comes before the fall. Stupidty is if you think otherwise.

It was agreed that NATO would not expand East.
There was talk of Ukraine joining NATO.
Putin saw red and invaded Ukraine.
The war has been going 3 years, massive destruction to Ukraine and many lives lost on both sides but only Ukrainian civilians too (not Russian civilians but if so, very few in comparison).

We can moan about Putin we can moan about Trump but at some point in time one must face reality, mustn't one? If Ukraine doesn't trust Putin then keep fighting. Don't go into negotiations and just moan if you don't like what it is being put on the table. You either negotiate or fight. Yes, this is Zelensky's choice.

oceanflow · 05/03/2025 19:23

Trump and Vance have no integrity, no manners, no class. They are crass, odious, loud-mouthed bullies. They are ignorant and repulsive. That's it. They have no clue about how the rest of the world operates. They don't have it in them to relate to anything beyond their own sickening egos. But one day they will be gone. So there is that.

tobee · 05/03/2025 19:27

Why can't Putin just leave? What's stopping him? Why won't he?

StandFirm · 05/03/2025 19:27

The US abandoning Ukraine entirely (on the intelligence front as well as militarily) means that of course Zelenskyy will have no other choice than to submit to the bullies. His country will be depleted, robbed, torn apart and in the four years (minimum) that Trump is in office, Putin will 'behave'. Trump will go "told you so' - however that'll be only because Russia needs time to recover from the sanctions and rebuild its forces. When that happens, it'll be the Baltic states next and it will not stop there. Putin wants the USSR 2.0.

tobee · 05/03/2025 19:30

Pride? Hmm. I think Putin is the one with a problem with pride, don't you?

Why can't it be a lovely, ideal world? Why should we let Putin off his expansionist murdering dreams ? Russia has history of helping to get rid of Hitler. Why is Putin aping him? Why is Putin channeling the nazis?

Coolasfeck · 05/03/2025 19:32

InveterateWineDrinker · 05/03/2025 17:44

It's worse than that. To oppose Trump is to invite vengeance and vengeful nihilism against oneself, one's family and one's friends. Anthony Fauci, John Bolton, and Mike Pompeo all had their Federal protection detail withdrawn despite credible death threats from doing their jobs in Trump's previous administration, simply because they criticised him afterwards.

Any Republican Representative or Senator who considers opposing Trump will find that MAGA puts up an opponent in the next primary with unlimited funds (the Elon effect). This will end their career.

The way that Trump has circumvented all the checks and balances, and the separation of powers, then found a way to exert such control over individuals is really quite chilling. The man is not even a dictator - he's a totalitarian.

Yes. Trump also pardoned the January 6 rioters. He has created his own militia to exact vengeance on his opponents.

oceanflow · 05/03/2025 19:32

Imagine wittering on about 'give me your minerals now, give me, give me give me' when thousands of children have been abducted from Ukraine and 're-adopted' in Russia. The rape of thousands of women. Mass executions of civilians. Putin is a war criminal of the highest order FFS. He needs a trial - right now - on the world stage. Not an appeasement 'deal' from an orange pig.

I don't believe Putin will just leave, and I agree that Ukraine could not win (absent US support) without much increased spending, so I don't know why you think I'm "living in LaLa Land".

I also don't know why you simultaneously seem to think I'm living in Ukraine.

@MNHQ, can we get a bot check on this one? It's replies are very strange.
