To think Britain should have nothing to do with this war

After yesterday's news, Britain shouldn't be the one funding war as USA has said they are out now. There's no chance Britain can fight this war alone with Ukraine against Russia.
Since this war started, our life has only become miserable with CoL increase.
AIBU to think we shouldn't have anything to do this war and we should fix our own problems first before giving away our tax money?

So, I'm really interested to know why you think a person living overseas as part of a "foreign aid organisation" (actually your government) and living in "vastly superior circumstances" (very true, or vastly, easier, more fortunate, superior is a bit of a shitty word) is any different from you living in "vastly superior circumstances" in the UK?

Piss off with your white saviour. That's a convenient, stupid excuse to trash aid. Mostly the beneficiaries would laugh in your face if you said that to them. There's nothing white saviour about aid done right in collaboration with local people. It isn't charity, it's justice.

And absolutely fuck off with your "we are all in it together." I have never heard a single person in this field say that, it would be farcically untrue. You come across as someone who doesn't know much about the world.

And yes, you are rich.

Because I don't leech off the money that is supposed to be spent on the unfortunate abroad - like your ilk. That is all. Not necessary (I have witnessed it) to drag all your brood and spent 'government' money on your little ones living with you to 'experience the world'.

I am sorry if I upset you, but foreign countries, including Eastern European ones, are not our concern.

I don't believe that you're remotely "sorry" for the sentiments in your posts.

I am pretty familiar with European history and how it goes for the common people. Solution should be world peace not war.

Well of course everyone wants peace. Except Putin!! And actually possibly also America as they will make a lot of money from weapons, defense etc.

But you can't have once sided peace can you? What do you plan to do, lie down in front of the tanks as they come rolling in because you want peace? Putin would roll straight over the top of you no questions asked.. none of us, absolutely none of us want our sons and daughters or ourselves to be out fighting a war on the front lines. Because in a war it's the ordinary civilians who suffer. But I don't think we have choice already in this. Putin has chosen the path for us. Unless he decides to climb down and be happy with his lot (spoiler alert not going to happen!). Best we can hope for is Putin is deposed from within and a leader with less hatred for 'the west' gets in and there can be peace for a while.

The situation reminds me of this

To think Britain should have nothing to do with this war

Porcuporpoise · 01/03/2025 14:32

If you want our citizens to enjoy basics like not waking up one morning to find 20,000 Russians on the front lawn then that costs money. Soz.

I am genuinely more concerned about young men of a different nationality on my lawn. Sort of more proximate, if you get my drift. And I am happy to pay for it, that is true. But that is enough virtue-signalling for one day.

To the previous but one poster -

Sorry, forgot to write - repellent, not what you wrote. Also, I am sorry, I understand you are worried about people sacked from their 'foreign aid' jobs - I totally understand. Often those charitable organisations pay generously for their employees' children's boarding schools, etc. I totally understand.

God. You really are sounding worse with every post.

I disagree . I think Putin only wants Ukraine. It’s clearly always been about the natural resources and he thought it would be easy as Zelensky isn’t an experienced politician or leader. I think a lot of countries backing Ukraine were hoping to help and get something in return (access again to those natural resources) but now it’s gone on so long that Trump has steamrollered in and made it clear what it’s always been about, thought he could get it sorted asap and is now losing his temper as he can’t. He will be warning us off next and telling any country that backs Ukraine that they are also going to be responsible for WW3

Edited

Goodness, most naive comment of the day.

Unfortunately Ukraine is on the same continent as we are, so it is our problem. Unless we fancy being permanently in hoc to Russia.

Also, Russia linked cyber hackers are constantly attacking our public bodies etc already. We are already essentially "at war"

And attacking us via social media to try and destabilise public opinion

I didn't realise there are so many war hungry people here.
I think the solution should be diplomatic negotiations and peace.

Yes. That worked so well with Hitler

Have you EVER studied any history?

Arrivals4lucky · 01/03/2025 13:15

Good luck negotiating with a dictator. Putin INVADED a peaceful country, claiming an ancient right over their land - sound familiar?
Appeasement didn’t work before and it won’t work again.

It's important to recognise that since 2008 Ukraine has been working with NATO to obtain formal membership.

Russia warned time and time again of "consequences" to Ukrainian and partners of NATO membership. In 2014 Russia annexed Crimea and since interfered politically to try and change the direction in Ukraine. Unfortunately the calls for Ukrainian demands to join NATO just grew louder escalating the situation.

If you're old enough you may recall how the USA reacted to Russian missiles being placed in Cuba, that episode was the closest this planet got the WW3.

For the sake of our planet and all humanity, Ukraine cannot be a member of NATO. Ukraine accepting this is a required first step to ending this rotten war.

But wait, aren’t Eastern European and Polish migrants propping up the benefits payouts economy for the lazy native Brits 🤭 You know, the ones who came over here and stole all the jobs from the chain smoking, big telly, tracksuit wearing, ‘hard’ British workers - the ones who never had a job since they left school and now they’ve got at least 9 children.

Nanny0gg · 01/03/2025 14:49

Foodtimeisit · 01/03/2025 13:18

So no one can put their thoughts out and if they do then you want to shut them down by saying Putin is pay them. It's absolutely ridiculous

Not half as ridiculous as your posts!

Wintersgirl · 01/03/2025 14:50

I wonder what's it's like to view the world so simply, look Putin doesn't give a shit as long as he gets what he wants, the regime will bump anyone off who gets in their way including members of their own family, it's so silly and naive to think pleading with his better nature is going to solve anything, it won't and he won't stop at Ukraine either, Finland will be next in his sights...

MrsJHernandez · 01/03/2025 14:50

Putin and Trump aren't reasonable men. Putin especially, simply cannot be negotiated with. He's a dictator and is insane.

I am by no means an expert (or frankly very interested in history or world affairs), but the Ukraine cannot surrender to Russia. Where would it end? Do you really think Putin would end it once he got what he wanted from them? I'm sure his plan is much larger than just the Ukraine.

Yes, 99% of the world population wants peace, however countries can't just surrender their land and its people to every arsehole who threatens war. If we give Putin what he wants, that sends a message that anyone can take what they like.

ThighsYouCantControl · 01/03/2025 14:50

Hwi · 01/03/2025 14:38

I DO understand - he won't touch the UK - all his cronies have their children in our boarding schools and at UK universities, he is not going to bomb his own, is he? If you dislike the fact, you should have protested numerous PMs, who allowed dirty Russian money and their corrupt Russian families settle here since 1992 and buy our politicians since 1994.

I don’t think Putin gives a shiny shite about collateral damage. I’d feel quite envious of your ignorance and naivety if it wasn’t for your other posts.

And how will giving in to a dictator achieve that, exactly?

bakedFishandChips · 01/03/2025 14:50

LOL
I come from a small ex communist country
Cannot fathom a British born woman to be so blind and uneducated thinking standing on your small island and pretending the world out there does not exist is all there is to stay in peace

ThePearlBee · 01/03/2025 14:51

I never said shit about my children "experiencing the world." They live where we live and work. Don't try to make me your straw man.

The "unfortunate abroad" (ew) do actually need the money to be got there and programs need to be administrated and carried out and checks and balances done and for that to be done UK workers do need to be there, sometimes. Wtf are you on about "leeching," you don't want aid to happen at all! Massive hypocrite.

I don't have a "brood." I have kids. Thanks.
I'm out anyway. I don't need either your ugly goady communications or your horrible selfishness raising my blood pressure any more.

By negotiation involving Russia, Ukraine, USA and other allies.

Have you been watching how that's going?

BlackEyedFrozenPeas · 01/03/2025 14:40

I don’t think it’s a very good idea for us to piss off the Americans.

Some of you are asking us to think about history. Ok then. From what I remember the Italians and Germans were the aggressors in WW2, and the French let the Germans walk through to get to us. Then the Americans joined in and were pivotal in saving our arses.

Of course there was more to it than this, however I really don’t believe the Americans would stand by and ever let anyone bomb the UK. I think they’d react to protect us immediately.

The rest of Europe….France, Germany, Spain, Italy…..hmmmmm I wouldn’t hold my breath.

Edited

The current administration in America would not piss on us if we were on fire

Also the French didn't let the Nazis walk through, they just didn't have much of an army to stop it. Once they were occupied they did everything in their power to disrupt the Nazis. Do you know how many people would have died if not but for the resistance,

Dotjones · 01/03/2025 14:54

YANBU to think that now the US are pulling out, we should do the same. There's no point taking on Russia without American backing. It's bad for Ukraine, and will be bad for Poland, the Baltic states, Romania (ex-USSR in general to be honest), probably Germany and possibly Finland, but Russia can easily manage to bomb the UK out of existance. At best we could destroy Moscow in retaliation.

Pulling out now and allowing the Russian slaughter machine to move slowly westwards will at least buy us some time to build up our own armed forces and prepare the population for war. We need weapons and we need training (as civilians), we need to start building bunkers and fallout shelters. They may well not be enough but at least we'd have tried.

Best case scenario is Putin is statisfied once Russia has recovered the territory formerly occupied by the USSR. If that's the case, that's kind of a result for the West. Yes it's a shame for people who had hoped for a more stable world after the fall of communism, but if Russians don't want that to be the case, we can't change their minds.
