Have to be honest since trump won i wasn't going anyway. But anyone cancelling or going elsewhere?
I have a big birthday this year, I would go to the garbage dump rather than support America,/musk in any way. I know therwmis at least half of America that doesn't.support this shxt and for them I am sorry but for the republicans too spineless and self interested to resist their dictator.trump...not one iota of sympathy for the rising prices loss of Medicaid or medicare.

YABU ..to cancel/Not go
YANBU...wouldn't touch it with a bargepole

40 people dead so far from shootings in the US in 2025. Clearly, the 51 mass shootings weren't very mass. Of course, gun violence is always wrong, and there are WAY too many guns in the US and WAY too many gun deaths, but there's also so much hysteria. There are 300 million people in the US going about their business, and 40 have been killed this year by guns. The chances of being shot anywhere, let alone at school, are absolutely minute. One in millions.

40 people dead from mass shootings so far in 2025.

In 2024, there were more than 40 gun deaths per day.

He is ?

Heh

Yep, fired a load of workers from the FAA, an already depleted service, now begging people to come work for him...because he obviously another stable genius and job security is a big incentive.

He also fired a load of workers from the Nuclear.Security Department..because that's evidently a good idea, with nuclear bombs and stuff.

Then there's the Ebola firings too...but that only lasted a wee while ...then they realised their mistake, because noone wants ebola apparently, according to Elon.

Nothing to be worried about, nothing at all.

It's definitely a tinder-box at this point in time, especially after today's utter disgrace at the White House. I can see why people would feel uneasy about going there right now, with Trump marauding around like King Kong. No one wants to get caught in the cross-fire of a potentially violent protest or a bomb.

Edited

Trump isn't King Kong. He, Vance and Musk are a "Dumb, Dumber and Dumbest" movie waiting to be filmed.

This country needs a viable third party like never before.

I really doubt that. Young people are dying to go to cool places like NYC.

You’re criticising the mother based on nothing more than your own assumption about who wanted to cancel the trip.

CerysThomas · 01/03/2025 07:55

Sadza · 01/03/2025 07:26

Trump was democratically elected in a process of free and fair elections. Millions of Americans chose him, it’s not a dictatorship. If you are only going to visit countries where you agree with the policies, I think it’s going to narrow the pool somewhat. People don’t always like the results of a vote and you are free to choose not to go because of the result, but you will really be missing out. Your decision either way won’t affect Trump at all or impact American foreign policy.

I won’t be missing out. It looks very close to becoming a dictatorship to me.

VerbenaGirl · 01/03/2025 07:55

My DB was planning a trip for a big birthday and anniversary combined later this year, but is now looking elsewhere as he won’t go to the US while Trump is in power. I had no plans to go, but wouldn’t until he’s gone.

Many young people have a strong social conscience. Sometimes much more so than older adults.

They most certainly have strong social conscience and are politically aware.

SpringCabbage · 01/03/2025 07:58

Nonsense OP.

I’m no Trump/Musk supporter but some of the comments here are ridiculous.

I’ve never wanted to go to NYC at any age.

Right, but it says historical. Surely all those towns in deep blue states like MA are not so racist now that a non-white person would be at any risk visiting? (I'd still stay away from the red states though.)

Yes, it does show historical, but also notes places that are still mostly white, for ex.

We are right.

I can't stand Trump, and I'm not saying that people who don't like him have Trump derangement syndrome simply for detesting him. I'm saying that something like cancelling a young person's 21st birthday present of a trip to NYC is indicative of TDS. Totally overboard, hysterical, and unnecessary, in my view. That kid must be so disappointed. Some people have lost their minds over Trump.

Although, having said that, after today's utter disgrace at the WH, they're looking more and more sensible, I have to concede...

Cantabulous · 01/03/2025 08:00

I’m on a total boycott of America. Not going there, not watching American TV or films, not buying American brands (am annoyingly tied in to Microsoft and Apple). Am pressuring a family member to sell the Tesla, obviously, I don’t care about the loss.

Ive stopped contact with American friends.

I know of two young adults who had planned to study in the US who won’t be going now.

I accept that most Americans don’t want Trump and Musk, but the nature of their society - misogyny, greed, racism, individualism, arrogance - has led them to this point so they’re all to blame. Shame on them.

ThePearlBee · 01/03/2025 08:01

A lot of us have friends and family in the US you know, and don't have the luxury of treating it as a simple holiday destination.

Plenty of Americans do not support these actions.

We should be allying ourselves against big tech and business, not against the American people. Of course no-one will do that because they need to be on WhatsApp and Fuckbook.

We’ll have to agree to disagree on the 21st birthday trip.

Sooooooooo are we all to blame for Brexit and shit Johnson did? Even those of us wildly opposed, who did not vote for any of it?

You've stopped contact with American friends, but you won't get rid of your Apple tech??! 😂

You sound like a real treat of a person.

Goodness knows. But I can’t imagine why the PP would cut ties with her non-MAGA American friends.

You'd force your adult child to go and trip that they don't want to to go on, for their birthday?

That's derangement.

Under Trump the far right, and other groups, have come out from the shadows. It is a much different experience for a person of colour in certain parts of the US. In some places it always has been.

Decorhate · 01/03/2025 08:10

MyDeftDuck · 01/03/2025 07:48

I can't afford to go any more.........Starmer and all his bloody cronies have put a stop to me having any spare cash for holidays.......can hardly afford to heat the house let alone buy the food to create a decent meal. And don't get me started on taxing pensions.😡

Please explain exactly which Labour policies have caused your income to go down.

BobbyBiscuits · 01/03/2025 00:31

I'd still go if I had something booked. I wouldn't want to go to a heavily MAGA favouring area. Maybe stick with Portland or NY or SF but apparently the latter has some areas with very severe open drug use and mass homelessness which must be awful.
I've only ever been to tri state area when I lived there for about 6 months more than 20 hrs ago.

Edited

There are still many, many places in the USA that aren't "MAGA" areas. Boston, MA, VT, really, the whole NE, including Maine and NH, Rhode Island, Delaware. The NJ shore and boardwalk and the Maryland beaches. That's the Atlantic side, and the whole Pacific side is up for grabs. Colorado is beautiful, especially through the Rockies (on a train of course). Everywhere you look, the more there is to see.
