To want to help Ukraine- is there ANYTHING we can do????

I am just so sad watching Zelensky. He's had his country invaded by Russia, fought for survival and now he's got Trump and Vance gaslighting him. Mumsnet, there's posts every day on here about this sort of behaviour, but usually it is happening in playgrounds. Wonderful advice is given. But this is not a playground. This is the world. How can we/ the little people help? I feel so so helpless. Please give ideas? Can we do something to support Ukraine and potentially change the future?

Aibu?

Yes- frankly, we, the little people have nothing we can do to help.
No- We need to fight to help Ukraine and keep Europe safe (and here's my idea....)

Trump won't be ousted. He is a dictator, hardly any better than his friend Putin.

We'll see.

WaryCrow · 01/03/2025 11:36

It won’t happen as everyone is too reliant on free money and not working.

Whole other thread, but the issue there is that there are not enough jobs for everyone in the right places, which pay for the cost of living in those places and also provide the training and equipment needed to do the job. Economically we’ve been screwed over for years.

Dotjones · 28/02/2025 20:33

Get over there and fight. They are running short on troops and need replacements. Training of sorts is provided although it's very much "on the job" training. It's technically illegal for someone from the UK to go and fight but the authorities are likely to turn a blind eye while it is seen as a "just" war.

😴

What about helping Palestine while we’re at it?!

Not again

You have a WHOLE board.

Basically Democrats need to go for what we in the UK used to call ‘Mondeo man’- Tony Blair understood that very well. It will need to be a white male, married with kids, with no skeletons in the closet or relatives with questionable business activities. I hope they are looking now.

Nope. We wouldnt be in this position if Michelle Obama had removed her lazy ass from whichever health spa she’s at this week and ran in 2024.

She was the only person that was ever going to beat Trump after four years of utter chaos.

She will be the only person that will persuade swing voters to not vote for Vance.

So today’s Russian bot line is about attacking Zelenskyy personally, is it? Always good to have an update on what the idiot stooges are pedaling.

Thanks OP for a thread lots of us were wanting. I think the point about telling your MP that your support for Ukraine is undiminished is really important. They need to know how strongly we feel.

It's almost funny

Yep. Instructions for today are dictator, hated by his people, corrupt and made lots of money.

And leftover from yesterday, a few "would you be willing to send your children,.."

spuddy4 · 28/02/2025 22:20

@PandoraSox well that's what everyone would like to know but mustn't dare ask because you are obviously a Russian bot if you do question it.

Oh dear

EasternStandard · 01/03/2025 11:50

You think concern on young people fighting on a parenting site is a 'bot'?

Why?

The brigading of these threads is so creepy. Unevidenced assertions about Zelensky and then crickets when you ask for citations.

Thanks to everyone who has posted with suggestions, I'm going to make some changes to my consumer choices and donate that money to Ukraine instead.

I felt sick at what we saw last night.

Theres also some bits of misogyny scattered in for good measure

You're deluded if you think that. She'd be met with an unbelievable barrage of racist smears and abuse, sadly. I think you underestimate how far gone the USA is.

AccountCreateUsername · 01/03/2025 12:02

Yeah let’s NOT blame Michelle Obama for this disaster!

False. People have just become very selective as to what gives them an easy life.

Also, why shouldn’t she do what she wants with her time? It’s not lazy not to run for office. It’s a personal decision. And America is too sexist and racist to have elected her anyway.

This is all from the Putin playbook and has been refuted with the facts many times on MN.

Talk to Ukrainians. His term ended last year.

The Ukrainian constitution prohibits elections during war. How would it even be possible?
The U.K. had no elections during the Second World War. Was Churchill a fraud and dictator?

You can be concerned about it but still see it’s inevitable.

What's inevitable exactly?

Seeing so much Russian propaganda on bere, whether or not posted in bad faith, is very disturbing.

wholettheturnipsburn · 01/03/2025 12:37

@nNousernamesleftatall

Ask Ukrainians?

The parliament just voted unanimously in support of Zelensky

With the greatest of respect your post is a bit silly. Silly sausage

Ukrainian young people fighting to protect their own country. Which is where all the faux ‘would you send your children’ posts started. Nobody wants anyone’s children to have to fight. Unless Putin withdraws from a country that isn’t his, this particular fight won’t end and more young (and older) people will be killed on both sides. Anyone suggesting it’s done by giving in to Putin is at best deluded and quite possibly a bot.
I’d have thought that much was obvious.

You can't have elections during a war when millions of the population have fled. I would have thought this was obvious but I'm guessing you're a Trump supporter.

EasternStandard · 01/03/2025 13:02

@cardibach no your post wasn't obvious. Anyone going on about inevitable death of young people, well maybe they can't imagine the realities of those deaths.
