To want to help Ukraine- is there ANYTHING we can do????

Helpforthosethatneedit · 28/02/2025 20:23

I am just so sad watching Zelensky. He's had his country invaded by Russia, fought for survival and now he's got Trump and Vance gaslighting him. Mumsnet, there's posts every day on here about this sort of behaviour, but usually it is happening in playgrounds. Wonderful advice is given. But this is not a playground. This is the world. How can we/ the little people help? I feel so so helpless. Please give ideas? Can we do something to support Ukraine and potentially change the future?

Aibu?

Yes- frankly, we, the little people have nothing we can do to help.
No- We need to fight to help Ukraine and keep Europe safe (and here's my idea....)

@cardibach it's not that difficult. If you post you want others to fight feel free to offer first.

What about helping Palestine while we’re at it?!

Helping them kidnap and murder Israelis? FFS - you've got your analogy backwards.

socialdilemmawhattodo · 28/02/2025 23:50

F off with this. It's not appropriate. This is not a thread about Palestine. Derailing.

talking against the killing of children might very well be ‘inappropriate’ for you but not for others. It’s ok, I don’t expect you to understand. Go back to your foul language.

It’s a floated idea. I just get the feeling she doesn’t want to get involved with the current higher powers of the party. She literally had to be dragged out to endorse Joe.

The Obamas are a nuclear family. They have no baggage, not too many skeletons and represent the traditional setup most Americans want. Her kids aren’t running around paying for prostitutes or dropping bags of coke in the White House.

If the democrats are seriously going to continue down the DEI route, spouting that men can get pregnant and run Kamala again, they might as well give Vance the keys now.

They need to roll the party back 20 years and remind voters that the party wasn’t always as nuts as it is.

Edited

No chance that Americans will vote for a black woman. Too much racism and sexism to overcome.

@DdraigGoch where have you read that?

In googling it suggests otherwise

www.politico.eu/article/ukraine-army-war-attrition/

@cardibach that's a typical reaction, you can write your own posts not mine. If that's what you think then post it and I'll post what I think.

Multiple soldiers told CNN at the time that they would often find themselves in a good position, with a clear view of the approaching enemy and no artillery rounds to fire.

Can't believe MN are anti rabbit, I suspect just the AI moderation probably misfired in this case.
It is simply incredible, the extent to which the Ukrainian support is crowdfunded.

No it was entirely my fault! The only link I know for them is a Go Fund Me Page. But in case anyone is interested, these volunteers do brave work and have evacuated lots of small animals- you just don’t think of details like that what happens to small pets, do you? It became difficult once women were conscripted so non Ukraine people have a chain of evacuation through neighbouring countries and provide foster care and veterinary care and, eventually permanent new homes. Animals suffer so much in war and there are many brave people around the world doing what they can to help

EasternStandard · 01/03/2025 20:13

@DdraigGoch have a read of the politico article, it outlines the manpower issues and is Feb this year so more recent.

But your article whilst a bit older is still horrendous for conscripts. People exhausted, numb from seeing so many deaths or quitting.

Two and half years of Russia’s grinding offensive have decimated many Ukrainian units. Reinforcements are few and far between, leaving some soldiers exhausted and demoralized. The situation is particularly dire among infantry units near Pokrovsk and elsewhere on the eastern front line, where Ukraine is struggling to stop Russia’s creeping advances.

CNN spoke to six commanders and officers who are or were until recently fighting or supervising units in the area. All six said desertion and insubordination are becoming a widespread problem, especially among newly recruited soldiers.

You don't have to but some of us can and will no longer purchase some of these brands.

Why boycott just ‘some’ of the brands? Surely the aim must be to boycott all brands. Unless you’re suggesting that you will only boycott those you rarely use anyway, but will still use the ones you rely on already……

Give over….🫤 since when has it been that if you are anti-terrorist, and support the returning of innocent hostages kidnapped by said terrorist, is it racist? You’re stretching it a bit there…..

My comments were referencing the ‘genocide’ (not my words, but the words of the poster) of 40k deaths since October 7th 2023. The deaths were caused by Hamas. Simple. Had Hamas released the hostages at the start, they could have spared the deaths of 40k Palestinians. I’m not going to comment further, as I refuse to derail this post by debating with you what’s happening in Gaza. Dozens of other Palestinian threads for you to debate on. This isn’t one of them…

This is such a helpful list, thank you. Really have to rethink my beauty brands! Guess I'll go medik8/ Korean beauty?

Yes, cosmetics and toiletries are dominated by American brands, but medik8 is a great choice, not 100% sure about the Korean brands, a lot of these companies turn out to be owned by other international companies - just found out Diptyque is. There are some other French brands that are still independent or not US owned -
Caudalie, Biology Recherche, Chantecaille, Institut Esthederm, La Prairie and Eucerin. Other British owned brands include Charlotte Mensah, Dizziak, Jo loves, and Charlotte Tilbury. Shiseido are still Japanese owned and also own Dr Dennis Gross.
Also Tatcha, Glossier and Drunk Elephant should be on the original list as they are American owned.

Anyone else feeling slightly relieved keir starmer seems to be pretty diplomatic/ level-headed. He's in an extremely difficult position, but I think he's navigating it as well as he possibly can. And I'm not particularly a labour supporter (actually, no idea what party I am, probably none/ all but there was no labour candidate in my area!)

We have a local group which sends stuff to Ukraine and I have been supporting them for a long while but have contacted them to ask if they know of anything else to help.
I can’t believe the whataboutery and the naivety of some posters on this thread. Unless of course they are just bots which spring up on anything which affects Russia.

Can you at least be specific here. Who is a 'bot'?

I agree. A lot of people have criticised Starmer for being boring, lacking charisma etc but I think this is where we will see his ability as a leader. He is conscientious, level headed and doesn't rush into anything.
I think we can trust him to make the right choices and to be a good diplomat in any peace negotiations. He has a tricky job now to show support Ukraine while also keeping Trump happy but I think if anyone can do that he can.

EmeraldShamrock000 · 02/03/2025 13:24

Keir Starmer's open armed hug to Zelensky yesterday was heartwarming.

He showed himself as a strong brave man. 👏

Totally agree. Starmer looks like a statesman on Ukraine.

Easiest and quickest way to help is stop supporting Reform. And point out to those that do that Reform are the UKs branch of Putins propaganda machine.

Yup. That's really important.

I really do hope that Reform, and it's ties to Russia (and Trump) draw a lot more scrutiny, going forward.

It’s sad what’s happening in Ukraine but the horrors taking place in Palestinian jenocyde makes everything else pale in comparison :(

That's an interesting spelling on genocide...
