Would you judge this in someone’s house?

I’m currently re-decorating parts of my house. I’ve come across a website that sells prints for the walls and I’ve found some I really like;

This house is full of love, laughter, and a little bit of what the fuck.

Pardon the mess, I decided not to give a shit today.

If you’re happy and you know it, it’s your meds!

As you can probably tell, our house is already a little bit eccentric with its decor… but would you judge someone for having prints like that on the wall with children living in the house or am I just overthinking it? 😅

It’s all a bit “ooh, I’m a bit mad, me! What am I like?” except the irony is the people buying them thinking they’re a bit off the wall, are part of a stereotypical demographic that the product can market itself to.

ConnieSlow · 28/02/2025 12:09

Op do you like massive slogans on your clothing too?

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 28/02/2025 12:10

It's not for me. I'm a lecturer and it's the sort of stuff I see on the covers of female undergrads A4 pads. Mildly amusing to remind them that having to come to lectures is a bit shit, when they'd rather be in bed scrolling TikTok. I definitely wouldn't want it on my walls but if you do maybe get small prints and put them in eg an en suite or something.

Marylou2 · 28/02/2025 12:11

Just a vulgar version of Live, Laugh,Love. You do you, OP. But I wouldn't.

Thelnebriati · 28/02/2025 12:11

Its the wallpaper equivalent of 'You don't have to be mad to work here but it helps'.

Yeah, I would to be honest.

Actually, it doesn't really matter what they say, any words plastered on to walls is a bit tacky in my opinion.

And I'm a semi-hypocrite because I keep getting an ad for a cute sign on Etsy to go by the front door that says "Love you, bye". For some reason I like it, I think, but I will not allow myself to buy it.

Auldy · 28/02/2025 12:15

I'd say go for it...it's your house. But only if you're comfortable and happy for your child at some point to repeat the phrase at nursery or school or to another parent.

Can you imagine - "our house is messy because we don't give a shit. We have lots of love and what the fuck though".

I KNOW this is exactly what would have happened with my son. He was a very early reader and very literal. We drove past a van that very charmingly had "Pussy Wagon" painted on the side alongside lots of cool colours and swirls and flowers. It took his fancy and he went into nursery and told all the teachers he wanted a Pussy Wagon when he was older.

MrsSunshine2b · 28/02/2025 12:15

I would find them a bit try-hard and cringey. Like that person who works in accounts but carries an "alternative" handbag and is always talking about how "craaaaaaaazy" they are. Or the school-run Mum stage whispering loudly for no reason, "REMEMBER as far as anyone knows, we're a NORMAL FAMILY!"

Heylylaa · 28/02/2025 12:16

Oops, didn't mean to quote the OP.

TwoRobins · 28/02/2025 12:18

They do make me wince slightly!!😅But if you like them, have them.

I am the same as you. I don't like any printed slogans.

"Love you, bye" is so cute though!!

Oldglasses · 28/02/2025 12:20

Sorry, I hate them!

Ohapal · 28/02/2025 12:21

I quite like the first one. Both my (adult) kids knew the word fuck from school age. Under strict instructions never to use the word at school. No issues.

I don’t like the last one. Referencing ADs is a no no IMO.

I don’t mind the middle one.

people have much worse up. Sex poems and nudes (of themselves) have been seen over the child rearing years!

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 28/02/2025 12:21

Yes, I’m afraid I (silently) would.

Though I do have a naff picture on my kitchen wall, dating back to when we had a dog. A dog making a face and holding his nose over what’s obviously a saucepan of leftovers. ‘Please clean your plate! The dog hates my cooking!’

Being dogless for years I really should take it down, but the space left behind would show that the kitchen needs re-painting!

Ah some of the stuff DH has seen over the years as a tradesman....

People do tend to keep stuff like that to their bedrooms though!!

ErickBroch · 28/02/2025 12:22

super, super cringe. Would judge your sense of humour Grin

I wouldn't have that with children in the house, no.

Teado · 28/02/2025 12:23

I find them naff but I wouldn’t judge.

Mnetcurious · 28/02/2025 12:24

Yeah those sort of slogans I find quite cringe. I wouldn’t judge per se though - I have a friend who’s lovely but her house is a bit ‘live love laugh’, it doesn’t put me off being friends with her though.

PiggyPigalle · 28/02/2025 12:24

Do it, don't forget to add large initials of you and "hubby" on your mantlepiece too.

crockofshite · 28/02/2025 12:25

Absolutely ghastly. With or without kids in the house.

Shewantstogo · 28/02/2025 12:25

Don’t worry OP! We have a sign saying “please don’t do coke in the bathroom” and we have kids in the house. It’s tongue and cheek and I’m a social worker

TheNinkyNonkyIsATardis · 28/02/2025 12:25

This is a bit like a joke on a t-shirt - it's like the person is telling you it again and again.

The first time you might laugh. The second you might smile politely. Then you wonder why the fuck they keep repeating themselves.

SofaSpuds · 28/02/2025 12:25

I'd laugh, and appreciate your sense of individuality 😆
Wouldn't put them up in my (boring grey, MN would hate it) house.

LuckysDadsHat · 28/02/2025 12:25

I would totally judge. But it's your house, do what you want. Don't be complaining when your kids get told off for swearing at school though!
