Would you judge this in someone’s house?

I’m currently re-decorating parts of my house. I’ve come across a website that sells prints for the walls and I’ve found some I really like;

This house is full of love, laughter, and a little bit of what the fuck.

Pardon the mess, I decided not to give a shit today.

If you’re happy and you know it, it’s your meds!

As you can probably tell, our house is already a little bit eccentric with its decor… but would you judge someone for having prints like that on the wall with children living in the house or am I just overthinking it? 😅

Yes. It’s unbelievably naff. So are little signs saying ’Gin o’clock’ though.

i think you’d get tired of it very quickly tbh.

When we bought our last house, there was stuff like this all over the walls.

And yes, it probably lowered my opinion of the previous owners. The frankly scary DIY electricals we discovered later lowered my opinion a great deal more mind.

DalzielOrNoDalzielAndDontPascoe · 28/02/2025 11:43

The best one I heard of - which would undoubtedly give half of MN the vapours - was a twee sign which said "Life's too short not to lick the bowl!", but somebody had moved it from the kitchen and propped it on the downstairs toilet!

ClearFruit · 28/02/2025 11:44

Absolutely awful.

RainbowZebraWarrior · 28/02/2025 11:44

OP I see from another of your recent posts that you're currently in the midst of a mental health crisis, so I'm sorry to hear that.

Unfortunately, it's a no from me too on the wall slogans and I'm quite surprised about the one relating to meds, but I get that everyone deals with things differently.

GrantMitchell · 28/02/2025 11:44

I don’t get slogans on walls, who is the audience? Those who live there? Visitors? You can agree with a sentiment without needing it to be displayed on the wall.

The worst offender is “get naked” on bathmats. I’m forgetful, but even I have a 100% record of remembering to take my clothes off to shower without being prompted.

HobbiddoH · 28/02/2025 11:44

I would be annoyed if I had a DC visiting your house who saw these.
But kids visiting or not, I would just find that very tacky in general.

MaryGreenhill · 28/02/2025 11:45

Vile tbh

OutwiththeOutCrowd · 28/02/2025 11:46

As a bit of a hoarder, I have much to be embarrassed about when it comes to house contents. So I would be forgiving of pretty much anything in another person's house, particularly if it made them happy.

We're all just a twinkle in time away from daubs on the walls of caves, anyway. So I say go for it. Just as long as you've got a nice cup of tea for me and some stories to tell when I visit.

Cherry8809 · 28/02/2025 11:46

Pretty crass with kids in the house.
Pretty “try hard” too.

WickWood · 28/02/2025 11:46

I wouldn't comment, but I'd think they're awfully tacky. Sorry but you did ask!

Spongebobpatrick · 28/02/2025 11:46

If you're happy and you know it.... that one made me smile. I'd probably put that in my office to make myself smile, but where nobody else could see it. The others - no.

PhilosophicalCheeseSandwich · 28/02/2025 11:47

I judge you for not having the courage of your convictions and putting whatever the hell you like on your walls. And I'd probably question your sense of humour and taste if I visited.

I've got to ask though, do you really like that sort of thing? Some people might find them vaguely amusing for a nanosecond, but they're not the kind of wall decor that's going to give you pleasure when you look at them through the years, like a picture you love would. You don't get much bang for your buck with these 'Aren't I lovingly bonkers?' posters.

The thing is something eccentric means something that is individual to that person, or family. If it is a mass produced print churned out in a factory in China then it isn’t individual or original or eccentric at all , it is just something mass produced that has been thought up by someone else. All you have done is wasted good money paid for it and hung it up on your wall like 200,000 other eccentric free spirits.

If you want to be thought eccentric and original hang them upside down, or sideways, or turn them to the wall or write your own thoughts over them. Put your own imprint on them or find a silk screen printing course and make your own.

StElse · 28/02/2025 11:49

Well yes personally I would think they're naff, but it's your house

Jade520 · 28/02/2025 11:50

I'd think - why do you need to have that written on your walls? I wouldn't say anything I'd just think it was a bit dated and naff.

MermaidMummy06 · 28/02/2025 11:50

I think 'bogan', which I assume is our version of 'naff'.

Lentilweaver · 28/02/2025 11:51

Yes, I'd judge because I find this so naff. But I would not say a word.

mondaytosunday · 28/02/2025 11:52

Yea that's pretty naff and if you were a uni student maybe but not something I'd expect to see on a grown ups' walls'! So yes I guess I would judge!

GreenCandleWax · 28/02/2025 11:52

They come over as trying a bit too hard to be wacky and "eccentric". But if that is your intention go for it.

Movinghouseatlast · 28/02/2025 11:53

Yes, I would with young children in the house. It's vulgar and inappropriate in my opinion. It would make me wonder if you commonly swear in front of them.

To be honest I think those signs are a crap anyway, not at all eccentric, just a bit silly and puerile.

orangesandlemonssaythebellsofstclements · 28/02/2025 11:54

They're immature and a bit "look how quirky and different I am". Sorry.

And they're not even that quirky or different, and will be even less so as the years pass. It won't be long till they're even making you cringe.

Tooearlytothink · 28/02/2025 11:54

I would judge, although not for the swearing but for the quotes on the wall in the first place 🤣 That's not your concern though - it's your home so what you like is what matters!

Papadonut · 28/02/2025 11:56

I'd be polite but I would raise an eyebrow. But you do you. I am sure you don't like what I put in my home either.

Hairoit · 28/02/2025 11:56

Taste wise, you do you. It’s not up to other people to say. However kids can read from age 4/5. I wouldn’t be happy taking my kid round to a house with ‘fuck’ written on the wall.
