Would you judge this in someone’s house?

I’m currently re-decorating parts of my house. I’ve come across a website that sells prints for the walls and I’ve found some I really like;

This house is full of love, laughter, and a little bit of what the fuck.

Pardon the mess, I decided not to give a shit today.

If you’re happy and you know it, it’s your meds!

As you can probably tell, our house is already a little bit eccentric with its decor… but would you judge someone for having prints like that on the wall with children living in the house or am I just overthinking it? 😅

I wouldn't like these but I have seen some song lyrics ones I would like. One says 'you're so fucking special, I wish I was special' so I am not anti swearing but yours I don't like!

Endofyear · 28/02/2025 16:03

Yes I would judge you. Naff and tacky!

Yes I'd probably judge but not seriously. I wouldn't think you were a terrible person or anything just that you were maybe a bit try hard and had bad taste.

TheThreeCheesesOfTheApocalypse44 · 28/02/2025 16:13

I wouldn't judge it but it's a bit try hard. 😬 I'd think it was naff but it wouldn't put me off buying a house.

NewMrsF · 28/02/2025 16:13

No.
you’re examples are a bit ‘live, laugh, love’ though. So id judge your taste but not the swearing.

Wow, I didn’t expect so many responses!

I’m not ‘trying’ to be eccentric at all, I just have very different tastes! For example, I have quite a lot of tapestries on the walls in the house and on the ceilings, quite unique patterns too - mushrooms with eyes etc - because I like them and they make my house feel like a home to me.

I also have quite unique prints in my house already - my dog dressed up in military uniform, old paintings of Victorian people wearing balloon hats - again, because I like them.

We are a household where we say what we think and don’t really hold back, so it doesn’t bother me having swear prints on the walls. In terms of other children, no other children come into the house so that’s not an issue. I’m not “being mean to people with mental health issues” either as I have plenty of them myself and quite like the tongue in cheek aspect of quotes like that.

I think it’s brilliant, it’s your house and who cares who comes round and doesn’t like it. I have several around my rather eccentric house…to name a few…Never Tory….I don’t like people….i don’t have a bucket list but my fuckit list is full…if the love doesn’t feel like 90s R n B I don’t want it. It’s my taste and my 14 year old and her friends don’t bat an eyelid.

Emmz1510 · 28/02/2025 16:17

Nah I wouldn’t have prints on display in my home that swear or mock mental health meds.

Burntout101 · 28/02/2025 16:20

It's a no from me, but why do you care what others think? If you like them , it's your house !

I don’t think MN is probably the best place to ask after what you explained in terms of decor.

I would bet most homes here lean on neutrals as being the epitome of taste.

My house is very colourful and probably falls into 'eccentric'. I doubt many MNers would like it, they'd probably think it was garish or childish. We even have some prints with words. I wouldn't like OP's posters, but I wouldn't ask if anyone else would judge them either because I know our taste isn't everyone's style and I don't need it to be because they don't live here.

fivegreenmonkeys · 28/02/2025 16:25

Maybe this one.

Would you judge this in someone’s house?
Ladyluck22 · 28/02/2025 16:29

I think they’re a little bit of a cliche thing to put up on the wall, like everyone’s had them. The swearing wouldn’t bother me with kids.

DappledThings · 28/02/2025 16:30

InAFettle · 28/02/2025 15:03

Seems like unless you've got Elephant Fart Farrow and Ball on the walls and the only decor in your home is a solitary reed diffuser then, in MN land you're a tacky chav. Or you're tryhard.

It's easy to see where the high school bullies come from innit.

It's not that in the least. I hate neutrals in all decor, love random mismatched colours and prints and furniture.

Some of the other stuff OP describes in her home does sound like it's eccentric and colourful and cool.

These prints don't fit that vibe at all. If anything they fit more with the elephant's breath blandness.

And nor did I say they were. I said I have several wall prints around my rather eccentric house. Don’t apologise 😉

Baninarama · 28/02/2025 16:31

They are not for me - but I don't like slogans on anything, including t-shirts. I appreciate my tastes may be niche though!

TwirlyPineapple · 28/02/2025 16:33

They're the kind of twee things that people put up when they think they're witty/eccentric but are actually quite dull. I'd consider them on a par with "live laugh love" decor.

And I don't think swear words are appropriate for a house with young kids.

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 28/02/2025 16:33

I think, OP, that your big mistake was posting this in AIBU. If you'd posted it in House Decor you would probably have had slightly more favourable replies.

Birdie280125 · 28/02/2025 16:34

Namechangedforgoodreasons · 28/02/2025 14:35

It depends - would you care if your child then thinks that’s everyday language?

But irrespective of that, imo you’re trying too hard. The messages aren't eccentric, just ultra-naff and make me cringe. Yes, I would judge you. (Well, you did ask.)

Edited

Judging by the update, they already swear in front of children (or "don't hold back" as it was worded).
Agree, naff.

LeaderBee · 28/02/2025 16:36

At most, i'd probably think it was a bit cringe - a bit like the "live, love laugh" shit you see on insta feeds.

but it's not my house, do what you like.

snotathing · 28/02/2025 16:39

I wouldn't think they were 'eccentric' prints, just cheap unimaginative ones.

It's not something I'd choose but I don't judge anyone's house or things they choose to have in them. Choose what you like for your own house.

Bigearringsbigsmile · 28/02/2025 16:42

Yes I would judge. Sorry.
They don't sound good at all.

aCatCalledFawkes · 28/02/2025 16:46

I don’t like the twee stuff like live, laugh, love and those prints are like there poor relations so even worse 😬
