Easyjet flight attendant ( seat related).

Can I preceded this by saying that I have always paid for my seat when travelling with my dc up until a certain age and that I have also often changed seats to accommodate young families? However yesterday on an Easyjet flight, we were asked to swop our paid for seat to the seat behind, with no window so that the woman’s child could see out. No medical reason- just she wanted a view.
I said no, I was fine thanks. About five minutes later another attendant arrived, demanded our boarding passes, scrutinized them furiously. And then began to lambast me because I hadn’t swopped with the woman. She said they had been going to reward us with a free meal but now, because of our lack of humanity, would not. This was at the top of her voice. I said, reasonably, that I had paid for my seat and I would be sitting in it but by this stage she and her colleague were speaking loudly and gesticulating in Portuguese.
Is this acceptable? Surely the airline must accept responsibility for putting this family in this seat( right at the back of the plane. ) How did I become the bad guy in this? It’s still rankling today.

EJ and others allow much bigger bags on until they get nearer the end of the queue. Then they look for 1/2 inch over in a front pocket. DD had stuffed something in it at the last moment. DD was 18 at the time and on her own. They do not apply rules fairly. They cherry pick. They threaten. No other person was threatened or made to feel uncomfortable. Just an 18 year old on her own. Not a 15 stone rugby type man! They pick on weaker looking people. The rucksacks carried on, according to dd l, were well over any size plus other bags as well! Anyway they don’t need our custom. They are just cheap shit and I can afford to fly better, so I do.

For heaven't sake, her bag was bigger than allowed. It was entirely her fault. Not the crime of the century but your determination to blame anyone and everyone else is ridiculous.

Why are you assuming the parent hasn't paid to select seats? They may well have paid for the seats reasonably expecting the seat closest to the aircraft wall to have a window, and then boarded and found that due to the layout of the seat rows it didn't. Depending on the type of aircraft and the configuration not every single row will have its own clear view of a window, especially if it's an older aircraft retrofitted with new slimmer seats that allow for an extra row or two.

Personally if that was the case and a small excited child expecting a window seat was sad not to have one then I'd have swapped regardless if I'd paid. I know what clouds look like well enough.

There are more reasons for choosing a window seat than being able to look out of a window.
Not being interrupted when sleeping/watching movies.
Having a wall to lean your head on.
Being able to wedge feet up more easily to stop ankle swelling and in general having a wider range of positions to adopt.

TizerorFizz · 28/02/2025 19:00

I am asking why there’s no fairness or an evenly applied policy? Can you not see that? Anyway who needs this? It was still bullying as the op was bullied. Who wants to spend money with this company. Since when is 1/2 in a case cause for not calling it carry on luggage? Everyone sees great big bags going on to flights. You are all welcome to EJ. Whatever makes you happy.

If the child wanted a window seat and the parents had paid for their chosen seats, they they should have checked their seating was by a window.

I’d be thoroughly pissed off, too. If people want or need specific seats, let them book in advance like everybody else. I can’t help wondering whether the passenger was a friend or relative of the staff, and had assumed that they’d ‘fix it’ for them.

I always want/book an aisle seat and unless there were really exceptional circs. I wouldn’t swap it for anybody.

PS, exceptional circs would include being offered an upgrade to business class - which has happened twice to a DSis on a transatlantic flight!!

SqueezyJet

And if you opt for their food QueasyJet !!

And again, easyJet do not serve lunch, they come round with a random assortment of food. Details are importantly when telling a story.

And if your flight is at lunchtime and they’re coming round with a random assortment of food at that time, then logically that would be lunch wouldn’t it ? Details are important, nitpicking isn’t.

GlomOfNit · 28/02/2025 19:31

How do you 'gesticulate in Portuguese', OP? Just wondering.

Actually sounds like a horrible situation and if as reported by you, then clearly you're not in the wrong, but I'm finding the 'gesticulating in Portuguese' comment rankles with me so I'm wondering if you're a little biased here and may have left some details out.

Livelovebehappy · 28/02/2025 19:35

I think the airline actually encourages people to do this prior to getting on the flight. We were sat behind a woman on a flight last year with two young teens, but one of the teens was sat on a different row. I heard her say to the flight attendant that she’d been told to ask the flight attendant after boarding whether they could arrange a swap of seats so they could sit together. It worked, the flight attendant asked a couple of people to swap, and they agreed. If people want to sit together, bloody well pay to pick your seats before you board. Like the rest of us do…

LuckySantangelo35 · 28/02/2025 19:36

If they offered me a seat in business class, I’d swap. If not, no.

Probably means the person was commenting in Portuguese whilst making hand gestures, ie, OP couldn’t repeat on here what they were saying because, you know, it wasn’t in English….what’s your take on it? 🙄

I just wish all airlines would display the total price with seat choice first and then offer you a discount if you’re prepared to sit anywhere and be split up. But NOT allow that discount for bookings with children, so you have to sit with your children. Then there would never be this kind of situation.
child needs to sit with parent = yes of course
child needs to see out of the window = don’t be silly

Absolutely this. We're flying Lufthansa this summer, all the flights I've been on with them have been great and we didn't pay extra to pick our seats. I'd rather get a connection through Frankfurt or Munich with Lufthansa than go with a budget airline.

Nikki75 · 01/03/2025 17:45

Absolutely complain your not there to be spoken too like that in front of a plane of passengers and ignored wether you wanted refreshments or not , I'd of had to say dont you dare speak to me like that .
You've done nothing wrong at all ..who did the flight attendants think they are.
Say they made you feel very uncomfortable on your flight .
Have a great trip dont let that spoil it x

Nikki75 · 01/03/2025 17:48

KimberleyClark · 28/02/2025 11:40

I don’t think being shouted at by a flight attendant is “no biggie”.

I agree totally unprofessional making the couple feel uncomfortable.. you dont go on a flight to be spoken to like that there food is crap anyway no wonder they didn't want it anyways.
Complain about them all the way I would .

Hoppinggreen · 28/02/2025 10:53

Easyjet free meal?
I would swap seats to avoid one.
Its very unusual for Cabin Crew to get involved in nonsense like this IMO so you must have been very unlucky

Unless it was the captain’s wife and child!???

Audiprettier · 01/03/2025 17:59

mummyh2016 · 28/02/2025 10:35

I would 100% complain. Yes it will state in the T+Cs you can be moved however you shouldn't be shouted at and embarrassed in front of everyone in the plane.

This...!
How bloody rude to be spoken to like this!
Does anyone remember a passenger getting dragged off a flight because the company had overbooked seats? The guy went kicking & screaming while two people 'took' him off. Outrageous!

Please please please complain. Their kids strops are not your fault! Plus hopefully will go towards anyone else being harrassed/embarrassed & treated so badly.
So sorry you had to experience any of this! 💐

PrimitivePerson · 01/03/2025 18:02

Was there any crying and shaking involved?

OnlineDream · 01/03/2025 18:30

I would definitely complain against the behaviour of the crew.

ARingtoit · 01/03/2025 18:45

I don't know lots about Portuguese culture but from what I do understand it is a very pro child one. They have lots of child friendly policies (e.g jumping queues if you have children) so the staff probably hold that view. I would agree with you but then I'm British!

This if you pay for a seat surely you are entitled to seat in it, otherwise don't charge people for a specific seat.

Marieb19 · 01/03/2025 18:53

That is appalling behaviour from the cabin crew. Complain to Easyjet. They cang expecf to profit from seaf assignment charges and then demand you give them up.

asrl78 · 01/03/2025 18:53

I'm with the others here, you were under no obligation to move and the crew were unprofessional to the point of being unreasonable. If I were in that situation I might have agreed to move if they asked politely, only because not getting a nice view is preferable to having a whinging screechy sprog near me for the rest of the flight. I have been on the other side of this situation when buying advance tickets on Vigrin trains when they ran on the WCML. I always ordered a window seat and there was a period where I consistently got allocated one of the only window seats in a carriage without a window. I used to just either accept it or move to a nearby unreserved seat with a window if available.

pinkhousesarebest · 28/02/2025 12:28

Tonton this is the reason I posted on here I think. Just to know how other people would react and to be prepared for the inevitability of it happening again. I was asked in the summer to change my window seat against an aisle seat for a child - which I did but the exchange was extremely courteous and the flight attendant very nice. (Aer Lingus). This was a completely difference exchange.

I don't think it's inevitable to happen again. Usually flight attendants don't get involved with moving people unless it's urgent, even separated families.

I fly a lot with and without kids and never really seen or experienced anything like this. Sounds like the 2nd FA was very overboard.

You see the odd story in the media about it but half of them are obviously made up as they tend to polarise people so get the comments they need...

100% report them...get them sacked. That crap ruins holidays. You paid for it you get to choose. End of.

Buffs · 01/03/2025 19:36

But easyjet are the ones who are monetizing their seats!
please complain to easy jet, their treatment of you was completely unacceptable.
