Easyjet flight attendant ( seat related).

Can I preceded this by saying that I have always paid for my seat when travelling with my dc up until a certain age and that I have also often changed seats to accommodate young families? However yesterday on an Easyjet flight, we were asked to swop our paid for seat to the seat behind, with no window so that the woman’s child could see out. No medical reason- just she wanted a view.
I said no, I was fine thanks. About five minutes later another attendant arrived, demanded our boarding passes, scrutinized them furiously. And then began to lambast me because I hadn’t swopped with the woman. She said they had been going to reward us with a free meal but now, because of our lack of humanity, would not. This was at the top of her voice. I said, reasonably, that I had paid for my seat and I would be sitting in it but by this stage she and her colleague were speaking loudly and gesticulating in Portuguese.
Is this acceptable? Surely the airline must accept responsibility for putting this family in this seat( right at the back of the plane. ) How did I become the bad guy in this? It’s still rankling today.

I book a window seat on purpose because that’s where I want to sit.

Personally I prefer aisle seats as I have faster access to the toilet and trolly 😁

Kag13 · 01/03/2025 19:39

We recently flew on Jet 2 to Gran Canaria. Husband and I had paid for aisle and middle seat to sit together (not fussed about the window seat on a short flight, have flown hundreds of times) and hate that ‘book the aisle and window and hope no one books the middle’ thing.

Anyway, family of four get on, not paid for seats. Young girl is in our window seat. No problem, we let her in and smiled and made her welcome hopefully. Her mum was in the row behind. ‘Don’t worry’, she said to her, ‘once everyone’s on, they will move us to be together’.

Sure enough, once plane loaded, they were moved to two seats together at the back. I assume the same for her husband and son, as the stewardess said ‘I’m sorry we can’t sit you all together, but there are a lot of families on this flight’.

The bonus for us and the couple behind was we got three seats between two of us so could spread out.

But not paying and travelling with kids and expecting to be moved anyway seems to be the expectation. Fine if there are seats empty, but I also object to paying customers being asked to move for those who have chosen not to.

and BTW I think if you pay for a flight as a family group of whatever size you should ALWAYS be sat together! I’m old enough to remember when that always happened….

Haha - free meal? How did you resist such an offer? You were right to stay in your seat.

I would have said I wanted to speak to their superior, and if there wasn't anyone else to speak to on the flight, I would have made a note of their names and made a formal complaint about them. How dare they treat a PAYING passenger like their custom (and extra costs paid) means nothing compared to a family who refuse to pay the extra costs, to get the seats they want, then proceed to try and take seats from someone who actually paid the extra cost for those seats. Seriously bad service!!!

Danielle9891 · 01/03/2025 20:19

For them saying EasyJet don't do meals. This was our menu. I think it's only the longer flights to Europe that do a few meals.

Absolutely no justification for asking you to change your seat.
Though slightly wondering how they gesticulate in Portuguese

IWantAShitzu · 01/03/2025 21:10

I probably would have moved. However I voted YANBU because, as you said, you had paid for your seat and you are completely within your rights to decline to move xx

As long as you can prove it
Please don't cause an issue for someone doing their job if there is any doubt about what happened.
And even if it did happen as you say so what? Somebody upset you a bit, I am sure you will be ok

In your world, is "doing your job" yelling at customers and refusing them service? I suppose you do know travellers pay for their tickets, so they actually pay [your] wages? Stop acting as if you're doing them a favor by showing them to their seat.

pinkhousesarebest · 28/02/2025 15:56

Just to clarify a bit.
The woman did ask the first flight attendant who asked us to move. When we looked a bit confused, she then said it doesn’t matter. The first flight attendant then spoke very sharply to the woman saying you asked me to ask them and now you say it’s ok? Which is it? Anyway, I said no, we preferred to stay in our paid for seat, my dh turned around and said sorry. As far as we were concerned it was over. Until flight attendant 2 rocked up demanding both our boarding passes and then rounded in us for our unkindness.

The flight attendant should have said to the people sorry we cannot swap you but next time you fly with us pre book your seat like pink did. You definitely shouldn’t have been treated this way maybe the flight company should put in the booking if you don’t want to pay for a specific seat please do not expect others who have paid to swap with you and please do not ask our flight attendants thank you.

Exactly this!
How stupid to say that...!
In your world maybe.
Certainly not in mine!

I would absolutely complain about that. They can’t monetise letting you choose your seat in advance and then loudly berate you for wanting the seat you’ve paid for

This, 100%.

AndreaB220 · 01/03/2025 21:52

gesticulating in Portuguese, really???

pestowithwalnuts · 01/03/2025 22:05

EasyJet are one of the worst airlines operating.

Pickled21 · 01/03/2025 22:09

Let it go and enjoy your trip. However I would email with the names of the flight attendants if you have them and complain. The second had no right to ask you to change your paid for seat just so a child could see out of the window. For me a free meal on an easy jet flight is hardly compensation.

ClarafromHR · 01/03/2025 23:02

Katiesaidthat · 28/02/2025 12:47

They probably offer to move because you will be talking across them all the time...

I like the aisle and my husband likes the window seat. We don’t speak to each other on flights so don’t talk across the middle seat occupant. That would be rude.

OldScribbler · 02/03/2025 03:50

I used to fly to Portugal regularly. TAP was always a crap airline.

Rottweilermummy · 02/03/2025 06:38

I've not read all the comments, and I'm totally with you, you paid for your seat the hostesses were completely out of line and un-professional and you need to complain What I was thinking, is why your seat? Were you the only one with a window seat? Dont think so somehow, so why didn't they just ask other people

  1. Since when did Easyjet serve full meals.
  2. There are no rows I can think of that would not have visibility of a window

There are Airbuses A320 family aircraft out there nowadays with no window for the entire rear row or the LH block of the rear row, it varies.

Seatguru indicates Easy operate aircraft with both options.

Worst cheek I ever experienced on board (BA) was from a stewardess when I asked for a gin and two tonics. (I like my G&Ts weak).
She gave me a really severe, disapproving look and asked if I really needed two? Then I twigged that she’d misunderstood, and had thought I’d meant two gins.

But she had absolutely no problem with the bloke next to me ordering two Scotch miniatures! That was what got up my nose.
Possibly a cultural thing - from her accent I guessed she was E European.

And again, easyJet do not serve lunch, they come round with a random assortment of food. Details are importantly when telling a story.

Looks very much like lunch to
me!

Being ex airline staff myself (albeit aeons ago) I’m now wondering whether the passenger in question was a staff member with a very cheap ticket, or maybe going for free, who was maybe on standby for any seats still available at the last minute. Hence the ones that nobody else wanted still available!

or the rude flight attendant!
