Woman 19 dies in dog attack in Bristol

Apologies if there’s already a thread on this, but how many more lives have to be taken in these horrific attacks before the Government admit that the current measures are failing. It surely has come to the point now that all XL Bullies should be euthanised.

There should be child-free restaurants and shops and also dog-free restaurants and shops. That way people can choose.

I’m just visiting from Gransnet but I think these letters are moving far away from the original point and becoming vaguely tetchy .

I would say the overall conclusion is that there are many people in society who find dog’s present elevation distasteful and, sometimes, threatening . Dog owners should therefore consider this and rein ( quite literally ) their dogs in .
They should also consider the hygiene hazard of dogs in eating places etc .
Someone pointed out that many hostelries are more than willing to accommodate dogs but it’s Hobsen’s Choice for them ; their custom would be greatly diminished without the owners . When I’m having a meal or a drink I don’t want look at a dog’s bottom or to have to speak above a cacophony of barking . Many people feel like this . Sheep with lambs also feel like this.
So back to Gransnet , hoping that I don’t end my days being set upon by a bully dog or even by tripping over the extended lead of a Yorkshire terrier .

Well said - thank you for your wise input.

They exist already. Although I don't think child-free shops exist.

The thing that really makes me smile on MN is when logical arguments are ignored because people know it’s logical and have nothing to counter it with.

'stupidity'?

According to the Health and Safety Executive most of the people killed by cows are farmers and farm workers. So I think you calling them stupid is down to your ignorance of farming and general stupidity.

You clearly haven't read the HSE page on it then have you? Before you accuse someone else of being stupid, I suggest you go and educate yourself.

A farm worker being trampled by cattle is not mutually exclusive to that farm working being stupid, hope that helps.

When is something going to be done about these damn dogs. Just ban them all! No more arguments about banned breeds and whether a dog is of that breed or not. No more deaths or savage maulings by dogs. People can have other animals as pets. It really is a win/win situation.

It literally isn’t a win/win situation Confused

100% agree.

100% agree.

Thankfully, it will never happen.

Thankfully, it will never happen.

It will happen if there continues to be dog attacks and people carry on getting dogs that are completely unsuitable for their homes and lives.

The wealthy will live in dog free zones patroled by armed guards, the rest of us will have to take our chances in the jungle 😬😳

The post I was replying to said that all dogs regardless of breed should be banned and people should get other pets instead.

That will not happen, much to the upset of some posters.

Exactly this. Too many bad dog owners these days, and too many out of control dangerous dogs.

BatchCookBabe · 12/03/2025 20:50

You can hope all you like, but surely you are sensible enough to realise that there will never be a ban on owning all dog breeds. The cry of “just ban them all!” is one of the most ridiculous things I’ve ever read on here.

VolcanoJapan · 12/03/2025 20:53

She added: "I genuinely feel that this was one of those freak accidents and wasn't her fault - that's how I feel."

It's odd how people always make these types of comments. They aren't freak accidents, they are too common now. The lot should be PTS

The latest types favoured by the scummy hard men are being bred with opposable digits on their paws so they can be trained to hold weapons. Armed guards won’t save us. It’s terrifying.

Who said all dogs? I thought we were talking about dangerous dogs?

If you are referring to me, I was replying to the poster who started by saying dangerous dogs should be banned, and then went on to say to save arguing about which breeds are dangerous we should just ban them all, and get other pets instead.

Do I agree XL bullies should be banned and culled? Absolutely.

Do I believe that all dogs should be banned and people should get other pets instead? Of course not.

No!

The poster I was replying to started by saying dangerous dogs, and then said “just ban them all, no more arguing about which breed is dangerous then”.

To clarify, I absolutely agree that all dangerous dogs should be banned.

Sorry about that. I misread. I just read it as the poster saying ban all dangerous breeds. yes of course we shouldn't ban ALL dogs. My mistake.

That’s ok, I had to read it twice!

I am not a dangerous dog apologist, promise 😂

I think they should all be euthanised. One of the biggest problems (see above post) is people who think their XL Bully is different. They think they’re well trained/soft/friendly/part of the family etc. Until they do what they are bred to do/be and they are suddenly unrecognisable from the beloved dog that their owner thought was different.

The danger is twofold. The dogs, and the person who is in denial about what these dogs actually are at their core.

This is so true.

Scummy hardmen with very advanced genetic engineering knowledge😱

A man was shot by his dog the other day in America. It was in the news.
