To think that Trump is not going to honor any agreement about Ukraine

FancyRedRobin · 27/02/2025 13:34

I'm seeing that Starmer is going over to say to Trump that he should offer security guarantees with the deal with Ukraine.

I just don't believe that Trump or America will honor any agreement made.

And what consequences can we leverage on them to make them do so? I'm not sure there enough levers to do so.

We've allowed them to have an outsize influence on world affairs and now the tiger is eating our face.

There is no way those discussions should have been broadcast to the world. It was always going to be heated, far better behind closed doors. Putin must be loving watching that shit show.

That is exactly why it was broadcast to the world - showing Zelensky as weak and uncompromising, dressed like a baddy in a movie.
*not what I believe but what they wanted to portray.
I'll just keep reminding everyone Putin and Trump are in on this together as profiteers...

And an invite to TASS. Putin will be loving this

edwinbear · 28/02/2025 18:52

@UnderHisEeyore yes, that actually does make sense. Does it leave the UK in a difficult position now? I’m no Starmer fan, but he played his cards right yesterday (uncomfortable as it was watching the sucking up). Are we now stuck in the middle?

UnderHisEeyore · 28/02/2025 18:53

@edwinbear Yes firmly in the middle. I think Brexit was a precursor to this to be honest and the Tories decided to side with Trump and Putin over EU.

It's going to be Estonia next I suspect.

NotTerfNorCis · 28/02/2025 18:54

What I'm wondering is, is this what Trump wanted, or is he just an utter moron?

If Russia overwhelms Ukraine, the US won't get its minerals and it won't get the money it thinks it's owed.

BIossomtoes · 28/02/2025 18:55

hamstersarse · 28/02/2025 14:17

How would I know?
Mainly because he’s got a deal?

I know that with all your emotion you want Trump to fail, but the truth is that all the other leaders have failed to bring about peace. They barely even tried.

Saying that he didn’t need to bring Z down a peg or 2 tells me you definitely don’t understand the dynamic that was needed to do a deal

I really hope you’re eating your words now - and they taste as awful as I anticipate.

Unless they both drill and rob it's resources and US allows Russia to do it again, so again they can both raid natural resources...Estonia is currently self sufficient in resources and comes compete with a 300 mile border with Russia.

Estonia is a nato member. Russia wouldn’t dare

Is that the NATO Trump keeps threatening and the one the the German President want to bypass and create an EU version of, because of Trump?

Why not? NATO is now functionally dead.

Thisandthatandthensome · 28/02/2025 19:11

His word is not worth the breath he spends on it.

Vile man. Bully.

What a ridiculous show. Tell us your thankful more says Vance.

Give us your minerals.

Give Putin your land.

No security agreement.

A stupid journalist asking why he doesn't wear a suit! Wtf have I just watched

Trump clearly doesn't care about Nato.
Europe needs to build its own defence union though we would happily include Canada.

MrsPernicious · 28/02/2025 19:22

Well that was a bit embarrassing, Trump can't control a press conference on his home ground.

I guess we send someone from Spain or Italy to smooth it all down and keep Tusk in reserve for emergency purposes.

MushMonster · 28/02/2025 21:32

Ukrained signed a peace deal with Putin, after the taking of Crimea, including return of prisoners and no further attacks. With Macron and Merkel as witnesses or mediators.
Putin has violated it 25 times, including failing to return prisoners of war.

That is what I got out of the chaos.

Yes, there is our problem.
Trump is looking for a business deal with Putin too.
Is all just macho talk, but really looking to get a real ceasefire and strengthen Nato? Or as it sounds, Trump will fully align US with Putin, against Europe.
Too much is on this to go around guessing. I think Europe needs to be independant enough to repel Putin on our own, if the day comes.

This was meant to be a reply to @Potsofpetals , but for some reason I failed to quote your post.

Well said. Aged within a few hours as well!

The Russian are delighted. Former Russian President Dimitry Medvedev says on Twitter:

"The insolent pig finally got a proper slap down in the Oval Office. And @realDonaldTrump is right: The Kiev regime is "gambling with WWIII."

CaveMum · 01/03/2025 08:23

Yesterday was a total set up, bordering on a lynching. Vance has always been anti-Ukraine but he showed himself up for the bully he really is. Those redneck roots are too far below the surface after all.

Tomorrow is now going to be even more critical.

Valeriekat · 01/03/2025 08:57

You are obviously unaware about how insignificant we are to the USA

Abhannmor · 01/03/2025 10:05

Thank god for President de Gaulle. He insisted that France have its own independent nuclear deterrent , outside the NATO command structure. This is probably the only obstacle to Putin's ambitions. Otherwise he could just roll into the Baltic countries - knowing Trump wouldn't lift a finger. Of course Britain has Trident , the US system it will never use without permission.....

We're significant enough when the States needs a figleaf to invade other countries.
