To think something needs to be done about all these dog attacks?

BattIestar · 25/02/2025 20:51

And if so, what? What is the solution? My kids witnessed an attack recently, it hasn't yet made the news, and it wasn't deadly nor did the victims require overnighting at hospital, but my children are now wary of walking to school, and being in the playpark. I hate that we are living in fear of dangerous dogs, and really think it is high time something proper was done about it.

The above are all very recent incidents, which I found when I was looking to see if the one my kids and I saw had made the news. I bet there are many more thst don't get reported too. And then we have the crazies spouting "it's the owner not the breed", or "something must have provoked it". In the incident we saw, the dog bolted out of its owner's front door and jumped up at a stranger walking along, knocking them over and mouthing their sleeve - I think the only reason it wasn't worse than it was is because the guy had a very thick coat on. If that had been my kids in their thin blazer uniform, I dread to think.

I think we need to get tougher on owners - any dog bites anyone, the owner goes to jail as if it were them who directly caused the injury.

I also think we need to actually properly ban the top dangerous breeds (we all know which they are).

OK, let us just say your dead relatives should be used to feed zoo animals too. They are dead, after all.

Be much more environmentally friendly than digging graves using all that land or the energy used in cremation. I’d be all for it actually.

Let’s feed granny to the wolves. Literally.

I am not sure it would look too good in a safari park with people driving through during feeding time.

I'd sign up to be dropped on an arctic ice shelf to be food for some poor endangered polar bear.

What an amazing way to go!

Someone needs to start this up as a business - I'm in already

Fair point. I’m sure the zoos would book it out as an exclusive thing though.

£60 to watch the general feeding

£100 be zoo keeper for the day and feed the leopards

£200 family package to say goodbye to granny while the hyenas tuck in.

Wildflowers99 · 27/02/2025 19:05

Yes 19 year old woman killed by an XL bully in Bristol last night.

They should all be put down, and it should be illegal to breed a dog with certain jaw capabilities. I always panic when I have to walk my springer or kids past one.

I’ve always said medical science or a cadaver farm would be what I want. Least then my dead body serves a purpose still. Rather than rotting away or burnt to a crisp.

I like this polar bear idea tho. Where’s Elon when you need him 😂

I have a sick sense of humour, and this made me laugh.

I do like the polar suggestion from a PP. The polar bears are struggling, from what I have read. Imagine David Attenboroughs next series.

Here we see a hungry polar bear wondering around in a last ditch attempt to find some food, before she will sadly die from starvation.

Fortunately for her there is a cadaver drop off happing just mere ft away from where she stands. This is her last hope at survival.

Ooh, I like this idea! I think I'd choose a tiger, if we get to choose, but I also don't mind being chucked in the sea.

On a serious note though, that poor 19yo girl. What a horrific way to die. It was inside a home though, so she most likely did put herself in harm's way. I would never enter a home with one, not for £1m. Not for anything. Maybe if it were muzzled and in a cage and sedated.

Can't bear to imagine how brutal that attack was. Same for Nicole Morley, of whom there is footage of her own savage beasts mauling her to death, losing an arm before she lost her life.

There is no way these animals deserve to be here. Starmer MUST cull them all. If a few pitbulls are killed but it stops even one more human dying like this, I don't see that as a bad trade off. Humans are worth more than dogs.

I can't remember what culture did this specifically, but there is one who takes your corpse to a hill, rip it up a bit, and leave it for vultures. Apparently, it is a huge privilege to have this happen to you.

I was walking by a dog owner who was holding a muzzle in his hand. I didn't notice the dog until I had passed him. I looked back and it was an XL bully on a loose lead. That should be a serious offence. Unmuzzled dogs of certain breeds in public should lead to a very heavy fine.

I don't think, at this stage, that fines are enough. These dogs HAVE to go. They are far too dangerous, and when they do decide to attack, you have no chance. Why are we tolerating this? It's pure madness. All for the sake of a few thousand butch dogs and their weak-minded owners.

You can't destroy a dog that has done nothing wrong. Yes, the attacks from XL bully's have been awful, but there are also XL bully's that have done nothing wrong. The owners have done all the right things, and the dogs have great temperament. Not all will go on to attack, and it wont be fair on the innocent dogs and owners to have them seized, probably traumatically, and put to sleep after months in police kennels.

I agree. I confused two issues in my post. Those dogs have to go. There are some breeds that need to be muzzled in public, but aren't bred as killing machines. I don't know where to draw the line between breeds, but XL bullies are lethal weapons.

It's been illegal for 1 year now to have an XL unmuzzled in public.

Please phone the police on the non emergency line and give all the details of where, when, plus description of handler and dog.

It's the next accident waiting to happen.
