To think I could stay awake infinitely just to stare at my child’s face?

Let me start by saying.. I’m a low-iron, serial napping, heavy eyed sleepy girl 24/7. Always tired.. love bedtime.

HOWEVER I don’t know what it is. Both of them. They’re 5 & 3 and half the time they’re testing my every nerve. But the second they fall asleep? Their angelic peaceful faces make me not want to fall asleep at all. I could stare at their face all night and not blink.. and that annoys me because tomorrow I’ll be even more tired.. and I have to orangish their toys so I have a BIG day.

Mine are tween/teen and I still look at them when they are asleep and admire their utter gorgeousness.

Yellowrosessmellpetaly · 24/02/2025 00:32

I still watch DS asleep sometimes. I think it's mum joy, makes my heart sing looking at his beautiful face snoozing away, he's still at the age where his soft toys are all tucked in around him!

arcticpandas · 24/02/2025 08:32

I love waking mine up with light kisses in the morning. What a joy it is to love someone as much as I think most of us love our children.. we just to remind us when they are testing our nerves 😄

Every time.

Laserwho · 24/02/2025 11:11

I still think about my teenagers this way. There's nothing more beautifully esp when they fall asleep on the sofa.

It's nature's way of ensuring we can cope with the rough bits!

There will come a day
when you will glance
at your child
and be met by an adult.

And it will wipe the very floor
from under your feet
when you realise
in that moment
that you were only ever minding them
until they fly away.

Because back then
when you were so consumed
with the daily grind of parenting
you felt like this was forever.

Yet we know
nothing truly is forever.

Just a handful of years
you will know them as a child
and if you are blessed
many many more
you will know them as an adult.

Drink it in
if you can

drink them in.

I think I'd be traumatised if I woke up and my mum or dad was looming over me, staring at my face! 😱🤣

YANBU though, I know what you mean OP.

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 24/02/2025 11:22

I'd post a sleeping pup picture but apparently I didn't get the memo that they don't often sleep Confused

ItShouldntHappenToMeYet · 24/02/2025 11:25

Is this a Hallmark thread?

I need this today. Thank you. OP, I agree. I melt when I look at mine sleeping.

I check on my 3 year old DD every night, give her a little kiss and smell her lovely smell. It makes my heart burst to look at her beautiful little face, her long eyelashes and chubby cheeks ❤️❤️❤️

Oh my word - borders are just the best little dogs in the world. YABU.

I could also stare at my kids for hours - they are absolutely beautiful.

I saw this for the first time just as my youngest left to go to Uni in September leaving me an empty nester. It is so true too. The time flies but when she is home and sleeping she still looks like my little girl and makes my heart melt ❤

Why do people do this with dogs?

I don't get it. Its just a bit sad to keep pushing dogs forward like they're kids. The have a short lifespan and are literally pets. It's just not healthy for us as grown functioning adults to do this.

Before anyone comes at my I have two dogs and they're awesome I love them to pieces but its no where near having kids.

TattedBarley · 24/02/2025 11:33

YANBU, word for word I’m the same with my daughter. We’re very much in the throes of the terrible twos, her behaviour (whilst totally normal) has me wanting to pull my hair out with frustration at times! But every night without fail I stay next to her in bed much longer than necessary, just to stare in awe at how beautiful she is…sounds crazy when I type it out 🤣

theyreallyaredicks · 24/02/2025 11:34

It sort of is a hallmark thread, but that’s okay?

It is so true, OP, like a mad drug and definitely natures way of bringing it home how much we love them. Thankful to be in a place where no matter what life’s ups and downs I can tell kids I love them every day.

I remember being awake breastfeeding my newborn and that Aerosmith song made sense. “I could stay awake just to see you breathing”. She’s 12 now.

Dearg · 24/02/2025 11:42

You sound like lovely mums. Enjoy your children ❤️

dairydebris · 24/02/2025 11:44

It's because they're quiet and still.

Sometimes I sniff mine too.

💞

Yes. I used to hear the song on late night radio when feeding mine. He's 23 now.
