To think I could stay awake infinitely just to stare at my child’s face?

Let me start by saying.. I’m a low-iron, serial napping, heavy eyed sleepy girl 24/7. Always tired.. love bedtime.

HOWEVER I don’t know what it is. Both of them. They’re 5 & 3 and half the time they’re testing my every nerve. But the second they fall asleep? Their angelic peaceful faces make me not want to fall asleep at all. I could stare at their face all night and not blink.. and that annoys me because tomorrow I’ll be even more tired.. and I have to orangish their toys so I have a BIG day.

Lovely poem @ssd

There will come a day

Thats quite powerful. We only borrow them for a short time ❤️

Willow12345 · 24/02/2025 12:04

Yanbu.

Why do people do this with dogs?

I don't get it. Its just a bit sad to keep pushing dogs forward like they're kids. The have a short lifespan and are literally pets. It's just not healthy for us as grown functioning adults to do this.

Before anyone comes at my I have two dogs and they're awesome I love them to pieces but its no where near having kids.

What harm is it doing you?

Hallmark cards, sweet, sickly verses.

Completely agree.
This is a thread about children. Why do dog people do this! It's infuriating to me.
There's a dog section.

In that case...!
Go for it!

This is AIBU not a kid specific board so I'll contribute too, thanks. Happy to be told IABU Grin but I'm not ramming it down anyone's throat. I was just remarking how a little face looking at you with love makes the bad day you've had dissolve slightly, that's all.

Always good to chat with thread police tho.

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 24/02/2025 12:53

@tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz
Yes, I like to see my dog looking cute when he's asleep too . PITA when he's awake! Don't really get much chance to observe my DC sleeping now (grown up and living with his partner).

BackAgainSlimLady · 24/02/2025 13:05

I’m actually the rare type of person that actually had no care for dogs what so ever. I can appreciate a handsome/cute dog. But that’s as far as it goes. I don’t care to stroke them; play with them, be around them let alone own one. They’re just not for me.

But despite that; if a poster sees their dog as family and feels the same way, you’re welcome here👍🏼

(I do have to say though people who refer to their dogs as their children in a serious sense do make eye roll) 😂

Don't want to derail your thread (was never my intention) so deleted my post.

Helloyouok · 24/02/2025 13:11

Yep I gaze at mine and have to resist stroking their face or giving them a kiss. They just look so peaceful and pure.

There will come a day
when you will glance
at your child
and be met by an adult.

And it will wipe the very floor
from under your feet
when you realise
in that moment
that you were only ever minding them
until they fly away.

Because back then
when you were so consumed
with the daily grind of parenting
you felt like this was forever.

Yet we know
nothing truly is forever.

Just a handful of years
you will know them as a child
and if you are blessed
many many more
you will know them as an adult.

Drink it in
if you can

drink them in.

DS, 30, recently became a parent. To witness the man I hoped he'd become, an equal partner, husband and father is as much a highlight of my life as meeting my GC.

CurlewKate · 24/02/2025 13:18

I remember my mother telling me that it's
Important to gaze at babies-it helps them grow! 🥰

Bbq1 · 24/02/2025 13:22

Ds is 19, 20 this year and adult or not, i still look at his face and see my boy. He's a fantastic person and son. Love him so much and he will always be my baby - I don't say that out loud!!

arcticpandas · 24/02/2025 08:32

I love waking mine up with light kisses in the morning. What a joy it is to love someone as much as I think most of us love our children.. we just to remind us when they are testing our nerves 😄

I wake my 18yo up by jumping on him, only after I've tried to wake him up gently a few time, he loves it I'd say😈I wish it was kisses but that would be weird I think😂

GottaGetOutofDairy · 24/02/2025 13:28

I lived abroad for a while (as an adult) and on a home trip was asleep at my Mum's when I found her gently peering in round the door of the bedroom just looking at me.

Sounds creepy but as she's generally not creepy, clingy or a pest, I didn't mind. She'd got up for a wee and couldn't resist confirming with her own eyes that I was back in the country Smile

MaggieBsBoat · 24/02/2025 13:30

When I am away from home sat in hotels in peace and quiet (for work sadly not fun), I look through my camera roll at photos of my 5 beautiful babies - including the ones who are adults.

This is a nice response - and much better than those who insist on ranking other people's love into some kind of weird hierarchy.

I'm definitely not a sweet/sentimental type, either! However, my twin DDs have the capacity to melt my icy heart (predominantly when they are asleep!).

greatfrontage · 24/02/2025 13:35

My 13yo sleeps with the light on, so I can still tiptoe in there and put the duvet back on her and gaze at her little baby face. She looks about 4 again when she's asleep.

My big teen sleeps in the dark now, so I wouldn't be able to see anything if I went in for a little sentimental gaze, sadly.
