Scared of what labour will do

Wantachangefor2024 · 22/02/2025 01:58

Is anyone else terrified of what labour will enforce. The tax on farmers. Will they means test pip? Will they tax state pension more? What else will they do and where will it all end. They ruthlessly without no care took away the winter fuel allowance. Means testing and taxing state pension would massively impact my family

And in the interests of accuracy-Starmer moved many years before he had children.

CurlewKate · 27/02/2025 08:08

It is interesting to speculate about Corbyn as PM. I wonder what would have happened.

And, to be fair, one of his children hasn’t needed to live near the school, at least when revising. There was a lovely Covent Garden penthouse available to him.

Oh yes, that was definitely the reason for Starmer’s using the penthouse. No question.

You do twist words. So in the interests of accuracy, I said

‘Nah not so much a competitive entry, we don’t need to do that. Just a school in an excellent catchment area. You know do a Starmer / Blair etc. A state school but not as the vast majority of children in this country know it, sort of thing’

You are the one who stated talking about ‘finding a house for sale in your chosen catchment’.

I didn’t say Blair or Starmer had moved for schools. They simply already lived in affluent areas with good schools. Which the majority of the electorate, do not. And as a PP stated, lil ol Keir had his millionaire mates flat to use too.

CurlewKate · 27/02/2025 08:29

@Rummly "Oh yes, that was definitely the reason for Starmer’s using the penthouse. No question"

I genuinely don't understand what you're getting at here? Did one of his children get into a school near the Covent Garden flat? How did that work?

CurlewKate · 27/02/2025 08:31

@Kittygolightlyy "You are the one who stated talking about ‘finding a house for sale in your chosen catchment"

Well, unless you're aiming for one of the few super selective schools, then a house in the catchment is the only way to secure a place in the school of your choice. And you said you weren't aiming at a super selective..

Kittygolightlyy · 27/02/2025 08:33

Labour supporters would have much more credibility if they admitted yes the party is full of lying, misogynistic hypocrites (choose applicable). We know that. But we still support them. Instead they insist on tying themselves in knots trying to justify the hypocrisy/ lies and misogyny. Such is politics.

Oh god. I was referring to going to a school in an excellent catchment. Some need to move some don’t. The common theme is the school in excellent catchment. 🙈🙈

Have a look back at the reporting of Starmer’s undeclared use of a penthouse in Covent Garden. Note especially his ‘justification’ for accepting the freebie.

Why don't you just tell me. I thought it was to give the kid somewhere to revise. Which I thought was a bit precious-assuming he has his own bedroom at his own house.

BIossomtoes · 27/02/2025 08:51

Would some allowing your child to revise somewhere quiet because your house was besieged by journalists be a “freebie”?

CurlewKate · 27/02/2025 08:51

@Kittygolightlyy Oh, I assumed you didn't live in the catchment of an excellent school. Fair enough. Then I don't see any issue with your kids getting places in it. Definition of a non story.

So what? wasn't required to declare it and no action over CV rules taken... as none were broken, hence he wasn't even investigated, let alone a fine... unlike the Tory leadeship at the time.

We are facing Europe's and the UKs biggest challenges on trade and peace in decades.... instead we get "Kier had a fucking beer" nonsense.

Is this really all you've got? as opposition party supporters.... no ideas, no suggestions... no wonder really, with Badenoch as your leader.

Its almost as bad as "Corbyn was going to scrap Trident" even though he never became PM and he made a commitment to keep Trident!!

Um, yes. Since you’re well aware of the story I’m not sure what you don’t understand.

Personally, I don’t think the revision ‘justification’ was precious. I think it was bogus.

But my point was that in answer to your defence of Starmer that he lived where he does now before having children, he apparently had access to other expensive means of ensuring a good learning environment for his child, to put it euphemistically.

Ffs, it was for a couple of hours after school. Are you seriously this petty? And it was declared at a hugely exaggerated value, unlike Johnson’s occupancy of the Bamfords’ Knightsbridge property worth £30k a month which he declared as worth £10k.

That misses the point spectacularly.

And are you sure there was any declaration at the time? I’m very happy to be corrected if there was.

I don't have a problem with "securing a good learning environment" in the shape of somewhere where his son could spend a few weeks revising in peace and quiet which was not available at home due to the election. In those circumstances, which of us wouldn't take up an offer like that from a friend?

It is really quite tedious the way people scratch around for little things to beat Labour up for in a desperate effort to distract from the staggering amounts of corruption and incompetence shown by the Conservatives over 14 years. "Look over there" is never a convincing argument.

Poking fun at Labour antics, falsehoods and hypocrisy is no more tedious than the posts by the party’s cheerleaders. Particularly the one’s that amount to “But Boris…

He used it from May to early July 2024 and declared it in September. The rules say declarations must be made in the relevant year. According to the Mail.

How do you know that opponents of Labour don’t support the government where it’s right to do so?

By way of example, I support the increase in defence spending (at face value: if it turns out to be creative accounting I’ll be critical), cuts to combat welfare dependency, WFA cut, the house building programme, prison reform, support for Israel.

Unlike you I don’t have to be a slavish supporter of this government.

Agree with @Rummly on the last few posts, not everyone has to go on about how well Labour are doing

Do you not think this slavish support argument is wearing a bit thin? I’ve seen the poster you accuse of this criticise plenty - unlike you she disagrees with the WFA cut for a start. I personally think the threshold is too low and that the two child benefit cap should go. I’m disappointed so far, this isn’t what I was hoping for.
