Mad neighbour..

At the back of my house, not attached to but in a little block, there are 11 garages, 6 on one side, and 5 on the other.

On the side of 6, i have the use (because i rent the pair) of 2 garages, next to each other. One of the garages has no garage opposite it. Between the 2 sets of garages, there is space for a car to be parked outside (perpendicular to the garage) on either side, and for a car to drive between.
I have fiat 500, ( tiny car) that I park right up to my garage. The garage opposite has had the garage door blocked up and the family access it as storage from their garden, the ones next to me are owned by my neighbour who uses them for storage and doesn't need access. Essentially, me parking there blocks no one.
Man along the road recently got a van from work, he has started parking outside his garage ( this blocks the garage to the side of him but is not impacting me, no issue)
I have parked my car, and am away for the half term.
This morning I get a call from my neighbour to tell me that van man is looking for me as I have blocked him in.
Only, I haven't.

His mate from work has left his van in front of the neighbours van, outside someone else's garage and gone somewhere on a training course. And taken the key to the van with him.
This means that as he has parked badly, neighbour now cant get his van out.
He wants my number from neighbour, or neighbour to pass on the message to me that I have to come home to move my car so he can get out.

As his mate is at work, he cant? / wont be able to move it till some later point.

Apparently I (according to the rant he gave my neighbour) 'stupid fuckin women drivers, she cant fucking park' have caused him to lose a days pay...

Ive had a look at the footage from my dash as I was a bit confused...My car was parked there Monday and Tuesday and Wednesday, neighbour comes and goes merrily. He comes home Thursday, his mate turns up later, and then the neighbour realises this morning that he is stuck...

How the hell does he think this is my issue????
Im not back till Sunday. Neighbour technically 'could' go in and get my spare key. AIBU to think, fuck it, this stupid woman driver will let you figure it out yourself?

I went out, (in the car) from 8.30 till 11ish, got back....both vans still there.

I wasn't going to go and tell him, but he had opportunity to move his van.

Neighbour later went to his garage for something and van man was round there. Van man had a dig at me to neighbour, neighbour pointed out the fact I had moved the car, it was his own fault for being in the situation and that being rude about me wasn't helping himself. He apparently doubled down and was rude about me again. Neighbour has now called the company and made a complaint.

I don't know what he has said, but he's quite a 'proper' older gent, ( has been lovely to me since I moved here, offers help and is generally lovely) and he doesn't like people being rude or using foul language

That's great you have support
And if you also complained ( maybe about both vans) then he could get some further comeuppance....

Your neighbour is the GOAT!!!

IDoWhateverItTakes · 25/02/2025 17:56

Love your neighbour

MoonlightMemories · 25/02/2025 18:08

Not trying to thread highjack or anything but where I live, there was a lot of drama this morning where another local resident couldn't get his car out of his garage because some company had parked a van right in front of it.

Garage man then started yelling at a flat near to mine (I was wondering what all the racket was!) where some workmen were in, as he assumed it was theirs (it wasn't, I asked them to check, they were parked somewhere else, non-obstructively). I have no idea if he ever managed to get his car out in the end, but it did remind me of this thread and it made my chuckle 🤣, he was being really dramatic about it it (it looked like he was just popping to the shops). Who doesn't love a bit of parking drama 🤭

Munnygirl · 25/02/2025 18:13

Your neighbour is a total legend. Three cheers for him for being so amazing

ThejoyofNC · 25/02/2025 19:22

OP how dare you go out and risk him being able to get out?!

FOJN · 25/02/2025 19:51

I'm quite impressed that van twat is sticking to his guns and refusing to admit he is wrong or apologise for being rude. The bullying is less impressive.

He comes and goes for 4 days, your car doesn't move, on the 5th day, after he gives his mate permission to park, he can't get out and somehow it's all your fault.

It's quite remarkable really that he's so stupid he doesn't realise being polite might be more effective for him.

There is no way I would save him from himself and I'd complain to his employer too so that he can't claim victimhood over his lost days pay.

MikeRafone · 25/02/2025 20:07

never underestimate the stupidity of some van drivers 🙈

HappyLimeHiker · 25/02/2025 20:14

My go-to phrase when dealing with misogynistic pricks: is your dick really so small that the only thing that makes you feel like a man is arguing with a woman? Cue shocked pikachu face and it shuts them down every single time 🤣

Walkacrossthesand · 25/02/2025 21:40

If only matey had thought to leave van keys with his mate, in case the van needed to be moved while he was away ...

AuntieLemonade · 25/02/2025 22:20

Still sublime 👌

dentalflosser · 25/02/2025 22:25

OP you are handling this like a boss and your neighbour is an absolute diamond. He’s looked out for you and defended you, such a lovely person to do that.
Can you take covert photos of the twin van twats parking just in case neighbour van twat does anything to your car? He sounds a classic CF who wants to blame the rest of the world for a situation like this. Holiday van twat will need to do some explaining when he gets back, who even dumps a vehicle outside someone else’s property and blocking access to a garage anyway? Prize CF!

Hey @dentalflosser I absolutely love the term twin van twats. You are onto something here 🤣

AuntieLemonade · 27/02/2025 20:33

Anyone else desperate for an update?…

Reugny · 27/02/2025 20:37

❤Love this thread

Fraaances · 01/03/2025 02:54

Why are these parking ones so very satisfying? Is it because we’ve all been affected by selfish twats?

KickAssAngel · 01/03/2025 03:16

Why does the 2nd van even need to be parked there? Where is it usually parked? I'd be very tempted to complain to the company that it's been abandoned on private property.

AuntieLemonade · 02/03/2025 01:18

Please tell us how the rest of the week went?….

this started out as a potential classic parking thread but we’ve been left as blocked as your van man!

Notsomarryfloppins · 02/03/2025 08:08

Sorry, I forgot to update.

Lovely neighbour made the call to the company.
Van neighbour thought it was me, when he saw me he had a go at me. I told him it wasn't me, but that I was now going to call his company.
I called the company and it has to be a small place as the lady on the phone said 'we've already had calls about this and told him to move his van'
Calls...plural.
Turned out that old man knows EVERYONE who owns a garage, and had got the blocked garage to complain and others, god knows how many complaints.

Later in the afternoon someone came and removed the unknown drivers van and then the other van went, and neither have been seen since.
The neighbour of van man said that van man has been moaning about everyone, he is no longer allowed to have his van at home. He had told the company that he had private parking for it, this has proved he doesn't so it has to stay at the depot / work place.

Lovely neighbour is 'The Man' in my eyes.
I took him to the pub for a pint on Friday as a thank you. Hes quite a bit older than me and I moved in here after a relationship break down very recently and I think hes taken me under his wing.

Excellent

JustMyView13 · 02/03/2025 08:13

The irony of van man calling you stupid, whilst causing arguments about parking a van he wasn’t permitted to have at home unless he had private parking… 😂

Strictlymad · 02/03/2025 08:14

Brilliant!! Still want to know why van 2 was dumped lol

Holshicup · 02/03/2025 08:14

Just perfect, thank you for the update op

From what ive been told, he was on holiday and twat van man told him it was fine to leave the van there. I 'think' he was meant to leave the keys behind but accidently took them meaning twat couldnt move it
