I'd love a utility room. It would be great to have my Lakeland heated airer hidden away from view.

I'd also love a bidet. My bathroom, alas, simply isn't big enough. I'm British, but it does surprise me a bit that they've never really taken off in this country. I'd love to have a freshen up down below, just whenever.

Anyway, what about you?

Our house was once owned by a bodger, so practically everything needs redoing or fixing.

What I really want to do is make the top end of the kitchen into a utility room, and incorporate the understairs loo which is currently only accessible from the side return. I desperately want to be able to dash to the loo without having to go outside. Upstairs loo is in the bathroom so if someone's in the shower, it's no go...

It's not going to happen, which makes me sad.

A large kitchen so I can happily have organised cupboards, one for Indian ingredients and utensils, another for Chinese, another one for Italian, one for Spanish, Middle Eastern and so on and so on.

A separate dining room with a hostess trolley.

Crikey, that really doesn't seem like too much to ask Sad

My landlord won’t let me change anything. I can’t even turn the bath tap off by myself (it’s really stiff with limescale) and Occupational Therapy offered to replace it with something perfectly decent (non-medical) looking but they still refused. It just makes me so much more dependent than I need to be.

WilliamWillow · 21/02/2025 20:23

A utility room that was big enough to air dry clothes - mine is really just a kitchen nook
A guest/young adult DC annexe - with own entrance and some basic cooking facilities (nothing too flash - don’t want them to stay too long…)

If we are dreaming then top of my list would be a lovely warm indoor pool (with a jet so I can keep swimming for as long as I want without turning), a cosy library/study for all my books, etc. and a boot room for taking off boots and coats so I stop bringing the mud into the house.

I was going to say this, but I’ll just move in with you if that’s ok?

Back in the real world, a bigger box room. One kid is in a huge bedroom and one in a tiny one. I’d like that space more evenly shared out. And access from the front of the house to the back outside. We have a septic tank in the back garden and there’s no outside access. They either have to go through the house (just gross) or we have to ask the neighbours to let us down the far side of their garden, across their lawn and over the fence.

To be fair, “The Lakeland Heated Airer” is legendary around these parts.

Is it as good as the Dyson Airwrap?

CoffeeCakeAndALattePlease · 21/02/2025 20:24

Well, the whole house needs renovating!

But as an addition, I’d love an attic conversion with master bedroom and en suite. That’s our long term plan when we can afford it.

Can you dry your kickers on a Dyson Airwrap?

I'd love my own bedroom , dh is a snorer and he also clears his throat in his sleep and moves around a lot .
He is also a duvet thief .
My own room , own bed & own duvet would be bliss .

Get 2 separate duvets, we’ve got 1 each

Garage

Strokethefurrywall · 21/02/2025 20:29

A library with floor to ceiling shelves and a rolling ladder.

Have everything else but this is my dream for when I move back to the UK and buy my Victorian wisteria laden pile.

MrsMitford3 · 21/02/2025 20:31

Sometimes when I can't sleep I play a game.

Endless budget but you have to stay in your house.

What would you do?

I would def sort out the shed at the back-or rather throw my endless budget at someone to do it for me.

Boring things like sort the gutter so it stops flooding the kitchen and fab things like garden being made gorgeous.

Randomusername37258 · 21/02/2025 20:38

An extra entrance with heated tiles, washing machine, and shower. Basically a decontamination room for after messy garden play. Obviously there would be a row of posh wellies in different sizes in there for guests and lovely big cupboards to hide clutter.

A hedge maze in the garden.

A turret with a reading room at the top containing a squishy armchair and wall to floor bookshelves.

All very minor and achievable.

Flossflower · 21/02/2025 21:05

I would like a utility room too. I thought everyone on MN had one.
I would also like a Korean toilet seat that acts as a bidet. I tried one at a hotel in Korea and there was a menu to choose from. It gave me a really clean wash.
I don’t want a swimming pool. A well off friend had one and they spent so long maintaining it. It needed to be done every day.

I'm guessing you can! 😂

gmgnts · 21/02/2025 21:46

I would like, in no particular order, a conservatory, a library, a utility room, a boot room and a flower room (a friend has one of these in his very old house and I'm deeply jealous!)

Cel77 · 21/02/2025 21:49

4th bedroom
Downstairs toilet
Proper hallway (right now, just a small boxy entrance)
Study
Sitting room.(we have a lounge/dining room)

What would be amazing:
A treehouse for the kids

Mama2many73 · 21/02/2025 23:06

A large mud room/utility where an ironboard and hangers could be out all day but also somewhere I could clean the dg easily! He's big.

CarolinaWren · 21/02/2025 23:34

I want to add a small greenhouse outside and a book wall in the living room, hopefully sometime this year. When I bought my house 5 years ago, it was in very poor condition. I've done extensive renovations since then, so it looks totally different now. I'm very tired of the chaos and expense, so I hesitate to start a new project, but there are still a few more updates I plan to make in the near future.

hipposcanweartutus · 23/02/2025 13:02

I wish my kitchen was bigger as I miss my big one. A bit more garden would be nice as ours is small and is north facing. If it’s any consolation, we have a bidet and it never gets used save for dusting it!
Other than that, I love our place!

Katemax82 · 23/02/2025 13:05

A 2nd toilet! There's 5 of us, soon to be 6 with 1 bog. It's soo lame

Frugalgal · 23/02/2025 13:13

Second bathroom - we have a 16 year old who spends hours in the one we have. There's always someone eventually screaming at him to hurry up I need a wee.

charabang · 23/02/2025 13:24

I'd like a second reception space, downstairs loo, garden room or summerhouse and a kitchen extension. Cheaper to move I reckon.

Emmz1510 · 23/02/2025 13:31

Agree, utility room. My clothes airer takes up space in our spare room and I hate it.

WhoDatNow · 23/02/2025 13:43

the flipping planning permission we applied for a year ago ...
