I'd love a utility room. It would be great to have my Lakeland heated airer hidden away from view.

I'd also love a bidet. My bathroom, alas, simply isn't big enough. I'm British, but it does surprise me a bit that they've never really taken off in this country. I'd love to have a freshen up down below, just whenever.

Anyway, what about you?

Utility room to hide all the shite, and a new conservatory with a warm roof.
And a few chickens again.

ImWearingPantaloons · 21/02/2025 19:24

Space for a dishwasher and tumble dryer.

And a spare room upstairs

I'd love my own bedroom , dh is a snorer and he also clears his throat in his sleep and moves around a lot .
He is also a duvet thief .
My own room , own bed & own duvet would be bliss .

I dreamed of this; two exH with abusive tendencies later, I have my wish! Bloody bliss 😁

An upstairs loo. Really don't mind the downstairs bathroom usually, but just sometimes I could do with a toilet to hand. I've got an upstairs cupboard that would be good but there's no water upstairs so it would be complicated. Bugger.

@Vroomfondleswaistcoat Do any of your pipes run under the floors?

I thought this for ours but because we have solid walls the pipes go up from the kitchen and along to the bathroom.

We put a toilet and sink in a cupboard above the bathroom and plumber accessed them by lifting floorboards outside the cupboard. It was great to go to work with no upstairs loo and come home to one. It's tiny but very handy in the night.

A hot tub. Yes I’m a massive chav. But I dream about sitting in a bubbly pool of delight

If bedouins can freshen up down below at any given moment with no problems, having no toilets, bidets or houses, then so can you. You do have a shower. A bidet in my dream house would put me off putting in an offer, tbh.

Out of interest, why would it put you off?

And I’d love to know how you know that Bedouins can “freshen up down below” at the drop of a hat. Have you researched the subject? And if so, how do they do it?

BountifulPantry · 21/02/2025 19:29

I wouldn’t add anything physical.

Ive been unhappy in this house. The only thing I want is some happy memories here.

Showdogworkingdog · 21/02/2025 19:29

I’d add a big wraparound garden and a long, wide driveway. A bit like you’d get in a stately home would be ideal. It’d be nice to be able to sit out in my garden in the summer without having to listen to my dickhead neighbour’s music. That’d be lovely.

Thank you for the alternative bidet suggestions, to those who've posted about them.
Please could you advise if they require plumbing in.

Yes, definitely need plumbing - in the Middle East they are plumbed in off the toilet somehow so use the same source of water as the cistern fill and then the "dirty" water just goes in the toilet and is flushed. However, I've heard (not validated) that in the UK you are not allowed to do this but not sure why.

No, sadly, all the pipes run under the downstairs floors. I'd have to have water pipes run right through the walls (the available space is the other side of the cottage to the bathroom) and across floors and, while it's not impossible, it would be very expensive . But thanks for the thought.

A hot water tap.

Sand bath, like hamsters. Only kidding. I have no idea.

An extra room that dp could use as a home office. He’s worked from home for 4 years from the dining table, which is permanently covered with a 24 inch monitor, keyboard and piles of cables and clutter. The dining room also doubles as the laundry drying room as well as the home office and where we eat and it drives me crazy.

BBQHulaHoops · 21/02/2025 19:31

Practically, another bedroom and a utility room, and about 1m extra on every room. My fantasy addition would be a long thin swiming pool or a natural swimming pond - though it would be a bit odd looking in the garden of a small London terrace.

user1471538283 · 21/02/2025 19:32

I'm in the process of doing up my last home and I am having my own bathroom (which will have to double as a utility) or not even just mine but just for women! I've spent my life sharing with boys and men and I've always wanted one just for girls and women. It won't even be ensuite but I can't wait!

This home needs so much doing to it. And I'm finally going to have a big lounge! And a simple garden and much less stuff!

Oh, I'm sorry to hear this Flowers

I wonder what's stopping you from doing this. Please feel free not to answer though, and I hope things look up for you x

Big laundry room.
Bigh enough for clothes rails at least 5 big washing baskets for clean clothes and huge hamper for dirty clothes. And permanent ironing station

A hot water tap.

This too. I've fantasised about it for a while. I've never taken the plunge though, so wonder if I am actually all that fussed.
I guess I'm lazy and a champion procrastinator though, so change doesn't come easy to me.

I'm a wheelchair user and can't access the hob or sink in my rented flat. I'd love to add a fully accessible kitchen with height-adjustable worktops.

My own bedrooom (dh snores) with room for an armchair to read in

Controversial, but when I move one day, there will be no garden. I'm simply not an outdoors person and the weather is rubbish where I am anyway.
I'd accept a balcony or a small courtyard garden with pots. I will NEVER AGAIN have grass. It's just a pain.
