I'd love a utility room. It would be great to have my Lakeland heated airer hidden away from view.

I'd also love a bidet. My bathroom, alas, simply isn't big enough. I'm British, but it does surprise me a bit that they've never really taken off in this country. I'd love to have a freshen up down below, just whenever.

Anyway, what about you?

A 16th century stately home that is completely obscured from public view by enormously high walls and hedged all around.

You enter it through an unassuming door at the back of the (standard, visible) house that looks like it goes to a broom cupboard.

There are secret tunnels and oak panelling throughout, with hidden staircases behind further secret doors.

<looks hopefully on Rightmove to see if they have a filter for all of those essentials - and which options they have on the market for under £100K>

A second bathroom. Even just a downstairs toilet would do.

Would also love a conservatory and a dining room.

AInightingale · 21/02/2025 19:00

A fireplace. When there's a cold snap or snow in winter, central heating doesn't touch the sides. And firelight is beautiful.

I'd also trade off a large living room for two smaller rooms downstairs.

JasmineAllen · 21/02/2025 19:00

I'd love a driveway, about 1/2 an acre back garden, a boot room and a deVol kitchen please. Also, it's not strictly in the house, but I'd also like beautiful countryside views from the windows while being on the edge of a nice small town 🙂

A bidet in the bathroom, a kitchen island, a new dishwasher and a red room of pain.

What is a "red room of pain"?
I'd love a downstairs loo, utility room, both of which we had in our former home 😢

shiningstar2 · 21/02/2025 19:02

Downstairs loo. The hall space is about 6inches short of managing this. We could go outwards into the garage. It'snever uses for the car anyway. Just a space for garden tools and junk. Would do it but think it might devalue the house if you can't actually park a car in the garage ..🤔

Is that a euphemism for a sex dungeon; or just a brightly-coloured walk-in cupboard for storing copious quantities of delicious French bread?!

Deliberationdivinationdesperation · 21/02/2025 19:06

A utility room, a bigger garden that's south facing, and more light throughout the whole house!

takealettermsjones · 21/02/2025 17:16

Why did we need to know the brand of the heated airer 🤣

I thought that......and why the phrase 'down below'? We know what bidets are for.

JMSA · 21/02/2025 19:13

@venus7

Try adding a pedant's corner to your place!

A room with a custom made board gaming table and loads of space for big shelves to store all my board games 😍

JMSA · 21/02/2025 19:15

Thank you for the alternative bidet suggestions, to those who've posted about them.
Please could you advise if they require plumbing in.

I need to get my conservatory replaced at some point, so that would be it.

yourmaw · 21/02/2025 19:16

staff! primarily a tidy-upperer and a cleaner. Would be welcome.
Also...perhaps a roof garden with a fabulous observatory. (am actually lol, lol,i live in Scotland -lucky if 4 guid days a year requiring any sorta garden....AND the sky surely looks the same-bare?

A balcony.
Lockdown really taught me that all flats should legally have to have a balcony.

Absolutely this. I grew up in houses with gardens but as an adult out on my own, I've lived in 3 flats/maisonettes with no outdoor space.

It's even worse with converted properties, as you often see the downstairs tenant with a huge garden that you have to look out on every day..

Everyone should have access to some kind of private space in the fresh air.

I'm pretty much the same as you, I'd love a bidet and a utility room.

Anjo2011 · 21/02/2025 19:19

An extra room downstairs and a porch.

Bellyblueboy · 21/02/2025 19:19

I recently moved house and renovated so got what was then my wish list:

Utility room with lots of storage
large kitchen with island
dressing room
office
spare bedroom.

no of course my wish list is different because I am never happy!

I would love a small heated swimming pool in the garden. My neighbors recently put one in and I am very, very jealous!

coronafiona · 21/02/2025 19:19

Porch extension to create space for shoe Mountain, utility room and an extra reception room/ play room. And a garden office/ den / shed.
Sigh.

Thank you...really in the spirit of the debate!

ICanBoogie123 · 21/02/2025 19:21

A huge walk in wardrobe with loads of storage and a massive En-suite with large walk in shower!

Giggorata · 21/02/2025 19:21

A cellar with a barrel roof, a loft conversion, with star gazing space between the two roofs and an adjoining wood.
sigh
In real life, a large rear porch/conservatory and turn the boiler room into a proper utility room. The latter is actually going to happen at some point!

Rhea43 · 21/02/2025 19:21

I’d love to have a spare few thousand to do our garden up properly so it was truly low maintenance. I’d also rebuild the derelict summer house so it was usable - prob put a sauna out there too.

(we now have a utility room and I can honestly say it’s my favourite room in the house 😂 Love not hearing the washing machine and DH has kitted it out so it’s a useful drying room with a pulley and a dehumidifier/fans set up - laundry dries in no time, it’s bliss. )
