I remember Anthea Turner punting flakes at her wedding. Carol Vorderman was always quick to front a financial product. Just seen Carole Malone on my timeline oiling on about weight loss jabs.

Any others spring to mind?

I wonder what the collective noun would be. A falsehood of grifters, a con-trick of grifters?

A grasp

I’m also adding private clinics that make diagnoses over Zoom. Especially neurodivergent diagnoses. I know someone who was told by the NHS AND a very reputable private clinic that they don’t have ADHD. Then BOOM a 1 hour session over Zoom confirmed a diagnosis and they now spend £100 a month on medication they probably don’t neee. Shocking vultures making money of vulnerable people.

I’ve seen a lot of that. People going to clinic after clinic until one tells them what they want to hear. I don’t deny that some doctors misdiagnose but I do get the impression that some people get the told what they want to hear of they pay enough.

I think the Good Law Project is like the Environmental Law Foundation- the offices are gifted and the staff are law students/volunteers- it's easy enough to check, I have personal experience of ELF and they are excellent.

Tarkan · 21/02/2025 23:37

I would have said Anna Delvey/Sorokin until I watched Apple Cider Vinegar on Netflix and learned who Belle Gibson was.

Anna grifted in a business way. Belle took advantage of people with cancer. That's unforgivable.

I loathe Stacey Solomon and the Ugly Sister. In real life, she's a proper mean girl and her children are feral. Absolutely no manners whatsoever.

Agree with Matt Haig too.

Why Matt Haig? I only know him as a children’s author

The Environmental Law Foundation is a charity with an income of approx 120k last year. The Good Law Project is set up as a company limited by guarantee that, nevertheless, gets its 4million+ income mainly from donations.

So not that similar.

I didn’t like the first incarnation of Russell Brand, and I don’t much care for the current one, but I don’t think it is up to us to judge his sincerity of conversion.

That is between him and His Maker ( who doesn’t have much tolerance for hypocrites and false prophets).

Well said !

Why would we be less entitled to judge his sincerity on this than on anything else?

Some of the biggest grifters out there declare themselves christian.

(Edited to make it clearer I don't mean all christians are grifters).

Belle Gibson came to my mind when I first saw this thread. I was reminded of a tv documentary I watched some years ago about a kabbalah based cult which would sell cancer cures. This guy with leukaemia had remortgaged his house and lost everything he owned pretty much to pay for useless cures. It was horrific to watch how evil some people can be.

Probably Meghan Markle, considering how much she seemingly conned the RF and public. Honestly, a £32 million wedding for a twice divorced actress! Personally I didn't have a good feeling about her from the start, and have since been validated.

I'm not disagreeing H&M are grifters ..... But ..,.

£32m wedding? Really? £32m???

Twice divorced? Really? I thought there was one ex husband, not two?

What's wrong with being an actress?

slashlover · 22/02/2025 05:28

Can anyone explain the Meghan and Harry thing?

They were paid to write a book, they wrote a book.
They were paid to make things for Netflix, they made them.
They were paid to produce a podcast, they produced a podcast.

You might not think they were qualified or enjoy what they make but they did make them.

SchoolDilemma17 · 22/02/2025 06:04

@slashlover for example

Last week, Spotify and Archewell Audio released a joint statement saying they had “mutually agreed to part ways and are proud of the series we made together”. However, sources close to Spotify have said the royal couple did not meet the productivity benchmark required to receive the full headline payout from the deal, having only produced one 12-episode series, the Wall Street Journal reported.
“I wish I had been involved in the ‘Meghan and Harry leave Spotify’ negotiation. ‘The Fucking Grifters.’ That’s the podcast we should have launched with them,” Simmons said on his podcast, the Bill Simmons podcast. “I have got to get drunk one night and tell the story of the Zoom I had with Harry to try and help him with a podcast idea. It’s one of my best stories … Fuck them. The grifters.”

Hazelsgranny · 22/02/2025 06:46

Not just Harry and Megan, I think all the royal family are grifters.

It takes a special kind of fucker to pull a stunt like that.i can't imagine how you could live with yourself knowing your life of luxury has been funded in such an abhorrent manner.

Judi Dench cashing in on her Moneypenny role in the Bond films.

Oh hell yes!

I've got them blocked on my Facebook and YouTube because I wanted to curl up in a ball every time it flashed up.

WillIEverBeOk · 22/02/2025 08:04

Waity Katy middleton who basically stalked a rich man till he married her and now lives a life of luxury and is workshy.

Trump, farage and any Tory.

Areolaborealis · 22/02/2025 08:49

Not a celebrity but the sullen 'clown' at the Edinburgh Festival a few years ago. He had a racket going handing balloon shapes to passing DCs without asking and then demanding money from the parent. When I declined he snatched it out of DC's hand upsetting her and ruining the day.

DC still remembers this and I'm still angry about it. "Why was the clown so angry, mummy"?

peanutbuttertoasty · 22/02/2025 09:30

SchoolDilemma17 · 21/02/2025 11:28

I am also definitely not a Meghan fan but I agree on this. Royal weddings are a key selling point for the RF and for British image, tourism and culture abroad.

Billions watched the wedding and the beautiful images of Windsor Castle and Windsor in the sun. It’s basically advertising for the Uk. One ad in the super bowl costs $40M so this was a relatively cheap marketing opportunity.

Marketing win offset and outstripped by the reputational damage inflicted on brand UK by the subsequent behaviour of one Ms Markle

Deboragh · 22/02/2025 09:55

Obviously Megan is up there, but for years it was, still is Amanda Holden, apart from shagging Les Dennis, where did she come from. On a similar vein, Cheryl Tweedy, and Victoria Beckham.

RockStarMartini · 22/02/2025 10:14

@Deboragh she shagged Bob the Builder too 😂

NotAPersonalAttack · 22/02/2025 10:45

Laurence Fox is such a grifter on X.

Agree with the Royal Family, sometimes their supporters are almost cult-like but they just can't see it.

NormasArse · 22/02/2025 10:47

Farage.

Surely nobody can top the utter fucking arrogance of a man who accepted a wage and pension for being an MEP, then sold an entire country down the river whilst promising the world?
