To ask who is the biggest grifter you've seen?

I remember Anthea Turner punting flakes at her wedding. Carol Vorderman was always quick to front a financial product. Just seen Carole Malone on my timeline oiling on about weight loss jabs.

Any others spring to mind?

Why has my post about Trump been hidden? @Mumsnet are you censoring posts about Trump being a grifter now?

Redheadedstepchild · 20/02/2025 17:47

Elizabeth Holmes and her Theranos scam.

Prince Andrew. (The whole Royal Family, really). Though I see the argument for Farage.

Agreed - the royal family and Farage.

That Hinch woman, awful.

Stacey Solomon. Quite how she's gone from an X Factor finalist all those years ago to now presenting multiple primetime TV shows, flogging everything from cleaning products to deodorant, and her multiple homeware ranges etc. is beyond me!

She's positioned as an interiors and home organisation guru but to me she comes across as fake, phony and just not very intelligent.

That's not grifting. She's being paid above her skill and talent level but she's being paid to do some kind of work.

That Hinch woman, awful.

Also not a grifter. A talentless advertising hack but she doesn't scam money from people, she gets paid a lot of money to advertise crap on social media.

Glorybox2025 · 20/02/2025 17:49

My least favourite grifter of the moment is jack monroe but in terms of scale, captain daughter Tom and her husband are pretty high up in value and audacity.

JandamiHash · 20/02/2025 17:50

Tony Hudgell’s parents. There’s something really not right there. Let the poor boy have some autonomy FFS and stop rolling him out as part of your PR campaign. They have no right to take his anonymity away from him after all he’s been through.

Come on, it's Farage. He didn't show up when he was an MEP and his constituents haven't seen him for dust in Clacton.

farige as in rhyme with Garage we don't say gaarraje

I think you've just pointed out some individuals that are even worse than Captain Tom's daughter who was heading the league table up until now.

What would we have as a trophy or statuette if we were to organise a "Grifter Of The Year" award. What would represent a worthy winner?

MyLimeGuide · 20/02/2025 17:55

Meghan Markle.

LongDarkTeatime · 20/02/2025 17:57

Trump

Foy19 · 20/02/2025 17:59

Most MLM/Network Marketing 'Team Leaders', especially for the likes of FM World.

Tulipsandaffodils · 20/02/2025 18:00

I don’t think anyone can beat Harry and Megan, selling out the royals, signing deals with Netflix and Spotify with no talent, and then faking the podcasts.

Foy19 · 20/02/2025 18:00

Zoe Bee - selling shea butter in pretty pots and claiming it to be a miracle beauty cream.

Iloveyoubut · 20/02/2025 18:01

Mel Robbins! By a mile. On a visceral level, everything about her makes my skin crawl, right down to her performative glasses frames. She gives me major Narc vibes and I find her, barely concealed, simmering rage and aggression during interviews to be quite unnerving. On a more practical level I’m horrified by the fact that not only has she taken an idea from a poem by Cassie Philips and literally plagiarised it but she’s actually had the audacity to try a trademark the phrase ‘let them’. I watched an interview with her and her daughter and I felt nothing but sorrow on behalf of her daughter. Only person I know who could write an entire book about counting to five and get away with it. Guess I should just … let her.

Stripeyanddotty · 20/02/2025 18:01

Trump.

catsareme14 · 20/02/2025 18:03

Another one here for Tony Hudgells parents. If they pop up on BBC Breakfast I switch off .

Adamante · 20/02/2025 18:03

Meghan Markle and her stupid husband.

Kiwi83 · 20/02/2025 18:03

ElsaLion · 20/02/2025 17:29

Probably Meghan Markle, considering how much she seemingly conned the RF and public. Honestly, a £32 million wedding for a twice divorced actress! Personally I didn't have a good feeling about her from the start, and have since been validated.

She's been divorced once.

ThDanielDay · 20/02/2025 18:04

Trump has to be the best at it. I'm not even sure it's a gift when your acolytes are fucking delighted to be ripped off by you, so success wise he's got to be top. Trump NFTs, Trump dollars, Trump crypto. Magnificent

For sheer panache and absolute thick necked smuggery is hard to top the princess of Wimbledon

I think Boris Johnson is actually incredibly smart. I don't like him, and he's certainly the master of free handouts, but he certainly isn't a man of little intelligence.

Edited

I agree. I’m not a fan, but he’s far from lacking in intelligence.

Crazybaby123 · 20/02/2025 18:04

Agree with the royal family. The Queen has got to be the ultimate one that ever lived!

Spidey66 · 20/02/2025 18:06

I was going to say my dad. But then I realised the word was grafter, not grafter.

labtest57 · 20/02/2025 18:07

Jack Munroe, and Jessica Taylor. Both grifters and pathological liars.
